Kelsey Robinson the difference is that Victoria knows dog body language she’s knows the training techniques and what to look for. She’s also quick on her feet. This family is not. They do not understand body language and dog behaviours. The way they used to hit him was enough to show they didn’t understand the dog and his needs.

@feraflauna32385 жыл бұрын
+Kelsey Robinson-It's actually not so much amazing that Pongo was able to follow Victoria's commands as it is natural. All dogs, even the most misbehaved ones, deep down are people pleasers. They want to make people happy, especially their owners. So what Victoria had to say actually made a lot of sense-Pongo is not so much a bad dog as he is a confused one. What he can and can't do within the house has never been consistent so he has no idea what is acceptable now and what might be acceptable later. . .And hitting the dog for doing something wrong, something wrong he isn't even aware of, only added to his anxiety and stress. He was being punished, but he wasn't sure why. So he became afraid of his own family and starting lashing out at them to where they became fearful of him in turn. And that most likely never made him any happier either-having his own family afraid of him. . . What Pongo was looking for most of all was control. Stability. The changes were so little but it added a lot: Pongo was told when he can and can't eat. He was told he was not allowed to sit on the couch anymore and knowing that, he didn't do it anymore. And when the owners were willing to discipline him without having to resort to hitting him or punching him, he was a lot happier, knowing that he didn't have to be afraid of being punished so harshly anymore. . .

I’m SHOCKED Pongo came from a rescue and hadn’t been neutered prior to adoption. Hopefully this goes to show how important neutering and spaying is … the dog will be set up for greater success behaviorally. And hats off to this family for loving Pongo so much and giving him every chance possible to he a part of their family. Another great training episode with Victoria!

DON'T BUY FROM A BREEDER, SAVE FROM A SHELTER!!!
@SplashesKwikSand5 жыл бұрын
@@jessies3236 Actually I'm going to correct you a bit... Dogs of any breed should not be fixed until at least 6 months of age. For females, that's roughly when they'll have their first heat cycle. For males, that's when their balls drop. For large breeds (doesn't matter if it's your Pitbull or your Great Dane) you should wait until they're at LEAST a year old before fixing them. Once they're a year old, then most of their bones are fully developed. A lot of rescues will fix dogs if they're 6-12 months old. If you've adopted a puppy and a rescue tells you to have it fixed by 8 months (say it's 3 months when you adopt it) then you have to follow those rules, doesn't matter if it's a large breed or not. By 8 months old you have to fix them. But again, that's only if you're adopting a puppy who isn't ready to be fixed yet. If you're adopting a puppy older than 6 months, chances are that it's already fixed. If you're buying a dog for a pet and have no intentions of breeding it, then fix it at 6 months or wait until they're a year old to fix them if they're a larger breed. (basically large breeds include the medium breeds as well. So your toy breeds [Chihuahua's, Yorkies, Bichons, Shih tzu's, ect.] don't count. Anything larger is considered a medium to large dog and should wait a year to be fixed.)

I love this dog. He is a typical Dalmatian. You train them well and everything is okay. They are wonderful with children. You just have to be very clear in communication but gentle at the same time. What never worked with my Dalmatian was this method to turn and walk in the other direction. Maybe because she was not interested in a special thing, I don't know. She just wanted to walk or run. It got much better with using a very normal dog harness. It made her relaxe. She differated between older children and toddlers. With toddlers she was extremely soft and careful. Normally she sat down and waited very gently what the child could do. She was very lovely with cats. She helped a mother cat to nurse her newborn kittens. Our neighbours Dalmatian always protected their toddler during nap time. When the child woke up, the dog went to the parents and told them immediately.

We have a lab, she is a greedy pig if you don't make sure doors are shut properly she will steal out the kitchen or bin, but she is fantastic with the newborn lambs that need a little TLC if they're mother isn't interested.

@Kat-mu8wq2 жыл бұрын
I don't know about dogs but in the case of horses occasionally only one testicle will drop. Which is very bad if you plan on selling it, but the horse isn't a gelding (castrated male) and it's not a stallion, though it can have behaviour problems of a stallion and still impregnate female horses.. They're called a rig.

I have a border collie. She is very high strung and was incredibly difficult to train, as a puppy. Her recall was so bad, that I couldn't even get her to come in the backyard. But, I persisted and used a long leash to practice recall for hours, until she was reliable offleash. It paid off in spades, as she will come now back mid-chase, even if she's chasing a deer or a cow. It very important to establish clear rules from the beginning.
@maxine94925 жыл бұрын
I mean it's still a border collie though. I own a shiba inu that's almost 2 now and she's so good for a shiba but she's never gonna be as reliable as a golden retriever or a border collie or a shepherd. Training is key but it so depends on the breed as well. These people aren't even trying though, they literally just give the dog a command but when it doesn't listen they keep going so he learns that there's literally no consequence to not responding

I really just think people that have dogs that misbehave are just inconsistent with training or just don’t train at all
@cbaelz1205 жыл бұрын
It really is as it makes things so much easier, but it's also important to realize that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Training is a lifelong experience, but if you have a dog you've never bothered to train properly, all hope isn't lost because you didn't start from the beginning.
@smbeecrochetcreations43725 жыл бұрын
I used to walk many dogs and established my leadership on the first day. I even got a pitbull to listen to me and respect me. After that, I never had any trouble. @@Surdeigt , what country? What is the process like?
@Surdeigt5 жыл бұрын
Sara Danser Norway 😊 well, first off we are a smaller country, but compared to the amount of citizens in America, we still don’t have the same problem. We don’t have puppy mills, and you can’t buy a dog from a store. The only way you can buy a dog is through a breeder, and ofc from people if they need to rehome their pets. Breeders have to be certified, and you usually have to go there to visit one or multiple times before they trust you with a dog. So, again - you can’t just buy one. Most of us chip our dogs, I actually don’t know of anyone who hasn’t. Also, if you treat your animal badly (and badly isn’t just abandoning it, or violently harm them, but also if they look scabby or don’t get food or being walked etc) you will be prosecuted, and the fines aren’t cheap, I’ll tell you that. It’s several 100 dollars and they will take your dog away. We have a few rehoming places (I don’t know the English term, it is not like a centre, just like small places), and they have to walk them three times a day, keep them without giving them stress etc. Overall we are just strict, and you will be heavily fined or incarcerated if you harm them. We also neuter our dogs if they aren’t going to be bred. That is the difference 😊
