Amity Blight is a good example of how to do good LGBT representation. The love she feels for Luz is well justified, as it was built throughout the season; In addition to the fact that she not only stands out for being a lesbian, but because her character has a personality, conflicts with which we feel identified and evolves as a character.

Disney: "Showing LGTBQ relationships is completely unacceptable in our shows" Also Disney: "Wow, these LGTBQ writers and directors are really good, lets hire them" Also Disney: "Why do our writers keep on trying to put LGTBQ relationships in our shows?" Seriously though, Lumity is basically my favorite ship ever, and I love how Dana and the crew are handling this. Its just such a good relationship, the two bring out the best in each other, and the fact that its a lesbian main character relationship just makes it so much better. Aahhh this show is so good.

Cause if your only reason is that it's weird, assuming you watched the show, the main lesson throughout the show was being weird is okay and not something that should be hidden. Differences are what make people great and should be celebrated and not hidden. So hating a ship just because you find it "weird" and without any actual reasons would be missing the whole point. Not saying it's wrong to dislike a ship, that's personal preference, but can you give us actual reasons with detail?

Wanna support LGBT in general? I am glad if you say yes and say: Jaden-Animation maybe just made this 1 helpful video named 'Being Not Straight', but others made many videos or even entire Channels!! 'GOP vs Queer' by "Some More News" is just 1 other amazing video, though that guy often tackles Problems and Issues. But Emma Thorne and Telltale Atheist are FULL-IN: They cover LGBT-Issues all the time, as well as Science-Denial and Radical's.

I wish I grew up watching cartoons like this... it’s so touching cause we are constantly told that lgbt+ people’s mere existence is inherently sexual and to watch a cartoon where it’s just there- it’s part of the characters and it’s not a big deal, and they are so adorable... maybe if I had this type of representation growing up I would’ve realized I was a lesbian before I turned 20 and I wouldn’t have thought I was just an unlovable outcast my entire life

Kid currently growing up watching these cartoons here. I’ve always known the existence of the lgbtq+ community because of media like this. I’m SO very grateful that we have something like this. I’m a 14-year-old queer brown girl and seeing Luz, a 14-year-old queer brown girl, just makes me so happy. And the fact that Disney, a notoriously conservative company that’s very important to the queer community finally has a queer protagonist right there. No need of blanketing it in layers of subtext. No need of external confirmation from the creators due to censorship. Just there, existing blatantly and organically. It’s amazing.

Ongoing theories emerged that Luz supposedly acknowledges Amity’s crush on her, but her reasoning for why she does not speak out falls in line with either (a) her witch training, (b) helping Eda with her curse - at least before Lilith fixed it - and (c) the portal now getting destroyed. Even though the ladder possibility proves itself a crucial plot line of Season 2, I find it difficult to believe that audiences won’t receive some Lumity.

I am still waiting for an asexual or aromantic major character in a cartoon aimed at younger audiences. Let kids know that it is perfectly fine if they dont want to be in a relashionship, and that its not strange for feeling that way. Had a proper build up to the relationship, didn’t just shove it to the end of the show, and it’s front and center with 2 major characters of the show. Lgbtq+ representation in cartoons still has a long way to go but I’m really happy with how far we’ve come throughout the 2010s and beyond. My main concern about Amity is that she seems to have been diluted a bit into just the “gay/bi disaster” character. I love the relatability of her being so nervous/awkward around her crush. But I don’t want her to just become “the character who has a crush on Luz”. She has so much back story and was such a compelling character during the first few episodes that she appeared in. So, I just hope that without omitting the plot thread, they’re able to continue developing Amity as a character overall. Based on the writing of the rest of the show though, I have faith in the crew to do that! 💚

The best part of having a sapphic main couple in this show is the amazing feedback from fans to let Disney know that it's worth it for them, and doesn't have as negative feedback as they thought Which hopefully paves the way for more lgbtq+ couples involving the main character(s) which aren't just in the final episode For example, I know many Amphibia fans (myself included) are hoping for Marcanne to be a thing (to the point where I generally forgot it wasn't canon lol) and with positive Lumity feedback, if Matt intends for them to be a thing, Disney will be more willing to let it happen, which is great

@@eu4083 I feel the exact same way! Before the Owl House, I was somewhere in between believing everything my church said about homosexuality, and actually forming my own opinions on it. It used to make me uncomfortable to, so the discrimination that my church teached me just made sense; until ya know, I saw it for what it was; discrimination. Then, I saw amazing healthy relationships not just on TV but in real life too, when I got out of my Christian high school and went into a normal college. The Owl House not only stopped me from being something I really didn’t want to be, but it also worked together with a few other factors to write my own gay characters, too! It feels like we’re pretty close to normalizing it, and making people who are against it seem like the weird minority, and that’s awesome ImO!

@@JoeySehn That’s so good to hear! That’s the thing about entertainment: it has the power to change people’s hearts. Many times people try to convince others that discrimination is a bad thing using arguments, but that doesn’t really work. I know that those who suffer injustice have the right to fight it, and it usually leads them to achieve great things (like the women’s right to vote, for example), but this is not enough. It’s important to show people that we are all human, everyone struggles and loves, faces bad and good things... Well, good luck with your story! Around the time I first started to Explore my sexuality I randomly found the owl house in My recommended. There couldn’t have been a better time. I live in a homophobic family and as a Lesbian teen This show helped me through so freaking much. I watched it all through my depression and it was the only thing that cheered me up even for just a little. I would write and read fanfic, or even just watch one little episode. I’m so excited that queer rep is in cartoons so that the next generation and so on can be able to access it. Honesty representation is so important and I never thought that Disney would do something like this. I remember watching the episode where Luz and Amity become official Girlfriends and felt like crying out of pure happiness. Thank you so much to Dana and the crew for making this happen. I know so many of the Younger Queer Generation will relate to this too. ❤️❤️❤️

I also love that they showed two characters with very different skin tones as love interests. As a mixed queer person I very much appreciated seeing this. People look at me all the time and decide where I’m from and what my identity is all the time. I’ve got people saying I’m Mexican or Filipino. I’m not even a mix of those two. I’m Chinese and Iranian!!!! If people cared so much about my ethnicity and identity maybe they should’ve asked.

Another good thing with Lumity is how the characters are represented We have one androgynous bi who looks more stereotypically bi, without being overboard (pixie cut, tux and tutu, etc.) But we also have a super feminine lesbian As a lesbian, growing up most on TV would be more masculine or butch, feeding stereotypes that that's what lesbians are supposed to look like, and always made me feel as if I look "wrong" or something, so having a lesbian who looks like me is just more validating

I still personally believe - my headcanon, if you will - that Luz has very much picked up that Amity is crushing on her but is deliberately taking it slow because Amity hasn't admitted it yet. Luz says "sorry" when she gets too close to Amity and makes her go COMPLETELY RED in "Wing It Like Witches," implying that Luz knows how Amity gets when she's around her 😆. And the same episode has Luz enthusiastically deciding to carry Amity when she sprains her leg, which is on the verge of "flirting" while still being friendly (Luz knows that Amity would prefer to be carried by her). I could be wrong, of course; maybe Luz will go completely "surprise Pikachu face" when she finds out.

My sister always hates on Amity because she can't understand where the crush came from and thinks her crush on Luz is her only defining trait, but 1: it makes sense why she's in love with her because she's from a place where affection doesn't exist and, 2: logically speaking, when you're in love/have a crush on someone it consumes you and you sort of become that crush.*

It's truly amazing and having Luz and Amity portrayed they way they are is so refreshing and has impacted me quite positively. My younger 13 year old brother is autistic and absolutely loves The Owl House. When Amity's crush is showing he giggles and says the she has a crush on Luz, and treats it no differently than the couples he's more used to. Having characters like Luz and Amity, as well as Shera characters specifically, has made it so much easier to talk about queer relationships to my sibling and I'm so thankful for the Lgbtq+ representation younger kids as well as adults will be able to see themselves in both now and in the future.

But now that some folks have slipped just enough past the nay-sayers, the snowball has finally gotten rolling. And now, it's picking up momentum, getting both faster and bigger. Some people are still trying to stop it, and they sometimes slow the ball down or knock off a piece, but it's gotten far enough that it can keep rolling. Before long; this snowball is gonna get huge, and the haters will be powerless to stop it.

This representation matters to older folks so much, too. I'm 40. I have kids. They're in the younger target audience of this show. Not only do I get to see a sweet story with queer kids that I wish I would have had as a younger person, I get to be the parent who shares these amazing stories with my own kids, uses them to open conversational doors, and gets to be a nerd about them with my children. We can speculate, write fic, and cosplay and it's just *normal* and not transgressive, like it felt when I was a kid, to have something so inclusive for our family. And in addition, this story is just so wonderful in its representation of parents, too, and the imperfections of adults. As a disabled queer weirdo myself, Eda is a representative character I didn't know I needed until I was crying over her acceptance of her curse and the Owl Beast. It's truly a gem and I hope it gets held up as a trailblazer for years to come and inspires young people and artists to keep expanding what's possible in our media.

Studios are slowly starting to see that the LGBTQ+ Community is becoming one of the new "norms" in the world. As such, they're doing whatever they can to ensure proper representation is given. Loud House has been doing this with pairs like Harold and Howard McBride, Sam and Luna and even background couples like Lainey and Alice. There is even a character who was confirmed to be transgender...but her name escapes me. Next, we've got Cartoon Network showing representation through pairs like Princess Bubblegum and Marceline and RubyxSapphire. Let's hope that this train keeps on chugging forwards...and that society doesn't try to destroy all this hard work because some yakkos tell them it's "evil"

I am straight but I am so happy to be able to see this sort of representation in a disney show even though my parents are conservatives (I am also mostly conservative aswell) I still support the LGBTQ for the most part but when I was younger I remember watching Andi Mack and there was a character who liked another guy and when my parents saw that they didn't let me or my sister watch the show anymore but as I grew older I think they changed their mindset because they have seen other homosexual relationships in shows and have not batted an eye as well as them being accepting to me and my siblings LGBTQ friends and though I am straight I am pretty "feminine" I paint my nails, I like flowers, my favorite color is pink, and in games like Animal Crossing I wear dresses and I think a couple years ago my parents would have never let me do these things but I think they have changed quite a bit.(I know this isn't to connected to the video but I just wanted to share it)

sometimes i wonder if i had this kind of representation as a young person, i might have realized sooner i was bi and maybe would have loved and accepted that part of myself much sooner. I struggled with alot and i mean a loooot of internalized homophobia as a kid and teenager.. and i feel like part of that reason was because of compulsory heterosexuality, as well as the stigmatization of lgbt especially in my area of the south. i went to a school where it was accepted, and i had gay friends, but the media i consumed was straight, most people i knew were straight, and noone discussed being lgbt spare a few people. and to be fair, i was incredibly dense about my own crushes on girls until that part of me was so loud that i literally couldn't ignore it. it took years to accept myself. years of fear that maybe could've been dispelled by making that normalized in media and everyday life. thanks if you read all that, i know it was a mess lmao.

I’ve just started watching the owl house with my dad and in the first episode he said “huh, luz doesn’t really look/sound that girly. That’s quite a thing for Disney to do” and I was like just you wait

I watched the owl house shortly after I came out as lesbian (I had identified as bi for about a year before), and the show became incredibly close to my heart. Amity has become a huge comfort character or me because I can connect to her and feel seen and represented. I’m so grateful to the team for making it possible.

The Owl House created by Dana Terrace is a Disney production that I really love. And the love relationship between the characters Luz and Amity is so wonderful and so adorable. I really love to watch all these episodes, and I love especially these fabulous and heavenly romance moments between these two girls. It is extremely beautiful indeed. And Dana Terrace did great work. Because she helped decisively that in the Disney Television Animation productions the persons who are in love with persons of their own sex and also the persons who are neither clearly male nor clearly female are finally recognized as part of the normal regular society and are finally acknowledged as a socially integrated case in the middle of society. The previous tendency of so many Disney series producers to always keep silent about LGBTI people was brilliantly shattered by Dana Terrace in a phenomenal way. And Dana Terrace is right. People can not pretend that as though these people were not existing. Disney series producers must acknowledge that LGBTI persons do belong to the middle of our society indeed. And The Owl House by Dana Terrace is the first Disney Television Animation series in which the main character falls in love with a person that does belong to the same sex as the main character itself. In this way Dana Terrace set a milestone. I am so happy about her decision to do exactly that. And thank God, several other producers of Disney Television Animation series also portrayed same-sex love relationships in their series in a stylish and magical way. In this context, I would like to mention, for example, the love relationship between Casey's fathers in the series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur or the love relationship between Becker and Kennedy in the series Hailey's on it. These are wonderful relationships too. I am happy and delighted with all my heart that the Disney company recently stands up for the emancipation of LGBTI people in the media landscape. This is a wonderful progression indeed.
