Great video to show how a hobby can help in an everyday situation , I just started playing with the lock picking and ordered a 14 piece and have helped my elderly neighbor get into her house and saved her from calling a lock smith I would recommend it as a very good and fun hobby that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to take up .

@jokertim777 I'm sure the locksmith would have used picks as well if Jack was interested in saving the lock. It probably would have run him at least $75, probably more. This wasn't a brand name lock and master key's are kind of a misnomer. Thanks for the comment! ~ Bryan

@edgybob1 Actually in most states you have to have "intent" for them to be illegal to carry, you should read up on the laws before carrying picks. ~ Bryan

Don't worry about blurring the license out. I put whiteout on that portion of my screen. It worked out fine.

@humanentropy That's another illusion of security... What exactly would you do with a license plate number? Get the address of someone that you could already find by looking at publicly available information on an appraisal district website? Thanks for the comment, Bryan

Great work! Man, you work cheap :) Out of curiosity, if he'd have called a locksmith, how would he (the locksmith) have gotten the lock off? Would he have used a pick, "master" key, a saw, or some other method? Thanks.

I once removed the same hitch lock simply by drilling out the keyhole with a 3/8" drill bit. But I'd prefer to know this method first.

Bogota lock picks are design for standard door key ways euro/jap and American locks. but a lot higher class security pad locks have a much narrow key way. one of my pick set is slim pick set for narrow key ways but some locks like American lock company its still to small a good cheap way to make a tension wrench for those is a bobby pin.

a bobby pin for top tension works wonders when you can't fit the wrench in the bottom

A dremel tool works good on padlock type locks.

Seems like the problem was to small a key way for the rake and torque wrench and the lock just kept moving to much making it even harder. I would've put a big pair of vise grips on the lock to prevent it from rotating so much then went to raking on it or find some way to help secure it from moving so much then address the problem with the key way then went to raking on it or SPP :)

@humanentropy - Its my plate and I could care less who sees it given I drive it down the road daily. I actually find it pointless that people worry about this. How many people see your plate EVER DAY?

for whatever reason, I can't pick with an audience... I've been in lockout situations and tried to help people get in, but have never been successful when they're watching.... if they leave and I try again on my own, I can usually get most standard locks.

@PMJustinY You're wrong. Picking locks that you are EXPLICITY given permission to pick is 100% legal as long as the owner of the lock has given permission. Picking locks that you yourself own is also 100% legal. Picking locks that you do NOT own or do NOT have permission to pick is ILLEGAL.

I live in NC and am disabled but used to be a locksmith and am very familiar with the laws. You must be licensed to legally have these in your possession here. It's like driving without a drivers license. You can drive even if you don't have one until you get caught.

You know in some states you can be arrested for possessing lock picks without being a licensed locksmith. Same with car opening tools.

Texas? Only steers and queers come from Texas...Seriously though, you should get your registration info redacted if you can. Otherwise I would refrain from displaying your tag. Cool vid! I'm from Texas myself. But I have a mean set of horns. Ha!
