I read two of the same books as you last year, Paper Towns which is really great. It's not a particularly revolutionary book, but it's very fun to read. I also read Fangirl over Christmas and it's the best thing I've read since TFIOS. Cather is so much like me it's sort of scary (apart from I don't have an online fanfiction empire). I finished it and almost immediately read it again. My other favourite book of last year was Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult. It's about a teenage girl who recruits an ex cop and an ex celebrity psychic to go find her missing mother but it revolves around an elephant sanctuary so it's full of elephants which is really cool. Also a great big whopping plot twist which made me put the book down and stare at it for a while because it was so freaking clever

I loved Fangirl so much! Like, I can't even say what made me fall in love with the characters or that the story was the most inspirational one I've ever read but it just had me hooked and I couldn't stop reading it. I also really enjoyed Eleanor & Park and the Body Finder, I definitely have to get the second book. My problem is, that I'm currently in the US and I'm gonna be here for another 5 months but I don't think I'll be able to bring all of the books home with me, which breaks my heart :(

Oh wow! Every Day was my Book Club's book in September. Some of us loved it. Others were unsatisfied. So cool that we were probably reading together without realizing it. I read a little over 30 books last year, but I am aiming for fifty this year... So far, I've read 3.5 books and I have at least three more to read before Jan ends! Good luck with your reading this year Carrie! xxxx

I loved Everyday. I actually picked it up in the library when I realised I had read the majority of the material in the teen section and it seriously got me thinking about the concept it created for life. The idea that you could wake up somewhere different everyday and have to adapt to that life and that way of living is just mind blowing.

Currently I am on my 11th book since the start of the Christmas Holidays (I have decided to start from there and end there) some of the books were quick reads and I feel wrapped up in two especially; Eleanor and Park and the worst girlfriend in the world, both these books are new favorites along with The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Do any of you ever feel as if you are in the book and when it ends you feel really sad?
@lizyoung2549

yesss i do, almost every time I read a good one. personally, I thought the beginning of Eleanor and park was kind of slow and boring, but so many people said it got better towards the middle. Do you think I should keep trying to read it?
@hannahc5822
@hannahc5822 10 жыл бұрын
Liz Young YES I agree it is a little slow at the beginning but a big definite YES. when you read a really good book it stays with you for a long time, often I get really sad if the character in the the book is :)

I totally think you should read Eleanor & Park! I just finished it (started yesterday evening) and I liked it a lot. I wasn't expecting much because I didn't like fangirl, but Eleanor & Park was so much better. It's quite a quick read and not too long so the slow beginning wasn't awfully long. xx

Attachments and Landline are really great books too so you should definitely read them! She also has a short story that is in 'My True Love Gave To Me' edited by Stephanie Perkins.

Everytime you do a video related to books, after watching the video I have this huge urge to get all those books and read them. Go to a bookstore and go crazy buying books. I wanna get into a reading frenesí (I think that's what I mean) and be so super happy. Because you show so much excitement about the books you read that it gets to me, and I think it gets to everybody who loves reading. So, please, never stop doing books about books. They're my favourite.

I read quite a few new books last year but it's getting to the point when if I get a really good new book I will end up reading all night and finishing it in one night and losing out on a lot of sleep which I currently can't do so have taken to going back to old favourites that I have read so much I could probably recall it word for word. The ones I always go back to tend to be Sarah Dessens books, I love then cause they are so well written and just an all round easy read xx

@1337gaia

Tip no. 1: Are you reading your books in english? Because they are a lot cheaper than the translations. Tip no. 2: Even though it's better to support your local book shop, you sometimes can't get around ordering books online. Tip no. 3: Think about getting an e-book reader. I started to like mine, it saved me a lot of money and I still buy the physical versions of some of the books (and buying the e-book and the physical book on top of that is still cheaper than buying the book e.g. in german).
@1998misia

***** I have to disagree with your 2nd tip. I live in Poland and the English books are very expensive. There are a lot of times when I would like to read the book in English or worse the book is not translated into my language and usually I can't afford it. Where are you from?

The only time I ever really get to read books is on holiday but on holiday I read like 1 book a day For most of 2 weeks 😂 last year I read both fangirl and you're the one that I want as well as re-reading the uglies quartet, the shock of the fall, if I stay, where she went, you against me and thirteen reasons why. I loved the majority. The shock of the fall was the only one I didn't enjoy quite so much at first as I felt it quite difficult to get a grasp over what was going on at times but in the end once you settle into the style, it was really interesting. I love reading and it really sucks that I quite often don't have time to sit down an read so I've actually made it a New Years resolution to make more effort to just take time out and read

I haven't been reading much the past several years, even though I would constantly devour books when I was younger. I've been trying to get a bit more into it again though, I just read The Shining and have Lolita on hold at the library so I'll be reading that soon, and some of your book recommendations really interested me and definitely got me excited about the idea of reading again! I'll have to refer back to this video once I finish Lolita, hopefully a bit faster than it took me to read the Shining (like 3 months...).

***** Overall I found it quite good, a bit slow in parts especially near the beginning and not particularly spectacular, but still interesting and enjoyable. How have you found Lolita so far? I've seen the 1997 movie and loved it, and have heard that the book does a better job of portraying Lo as the victim so I'm looking forward to that.
@idgafiminfinite
@idgafiminfinite 10 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah I saw The Shining movie first as well, probably partially why the book seemed slow since movies are always much more fast paced than their book versions. I actually started Lolita this morning and I feel the same, a bit slow in terms of events so far but the writing style keeps my interest better than Stephen King's. I don't know enough French to understand a lot of the French bits though, so that's frustrating!

AnimeCake "A little more won't hurt..." that's how it always seems to go with reading, doesn't it? Good luck in helping her get back into it! I don't necessarily hate reading, but now there's just a lot of things I prefer to do so it's started to feel more like a chore. Trying to read more reminds me that it is still enjoyable if it's a book I'm into. Also I've read at least three books since I posted that comment and am hoping to get my hands on Gone Girl soon to read that, so yay!

I also read a good handful of these books last year, the only one I completely disagree with you about is 'The List of my Desires'. The ending wasn't what I thought it would be and the protagonist irritated me by the end. I felt it was good to begin with, slow in the middle and then the end was completely rushed. I was quite disappointed, like I was with 'The Time Keeper'. Although, I did like the way she created several lists, it seems a very sensible way to deal with such a big change! I aim to read 30 books this year and I have just started 'The Body Finder' series! Your positivity towards it makes me excited for it all x

I really want to get back into reading this year and this video really inspires me to! You read so many books! I'm having bit of a "if Carrie can read 22(!!) books in a year, I can read at least 5" moment hahaha :)

In case you haven't yet, you should definitely check out the STARDUST edition with illustrations by Charles Vess. They are incredibly wonderful and I actually don't even consider the editions without them as complete.

I think my favourite book that I read last year was Bram Stoker's Dracula, really liked the portion of the book that was set in the castle with Jonathan Harker

you should read 'The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain. It's about Ernest Hemingway and his first wife. It talks follows the path of how they met, how they fall in love, and how they eventually fall apart. It's a really good book!

I have The Year I Met You, but I haven't really managed to get passed the 2nd Chapter... I've found it slightly disappointing so far because the only other Cecelia Ahern book that I have read is Where Rainbows End and it's easily one of the best books I've bet read, I highly recommend it❤️

I've read three of those books. "One Million Lovely Letters" ((which I read because of Carrie)), "The Time Keeper" and "Eleanor & Park" ((which I love very very much, but I also hate it. People who have read it might know why)). And "Fangirl" stands on my shelf waiting to be read.

I absolutely loved fangirl! I've never seen a character that UNDERSTOOD me as much as cath, I especially loved how she was too scared to go to the canteen because that's 100% me

I love this book called 'Anna dressed in blood' by Kendare Blake I know it probably isn't what most people like but I love it so much usually. I myself find I'm drawn more to mysteries or adventures that involve awkward encounters with sorta kinda loves and weird friendships that seem to describe my life amazingly but this book is soooo good in my opinion that I just couldn't keep it to myself. It's about a young ghost killer who hunts ghosts and then kills them but one job turns out a lot more than just that he makes friends, finds out secrets and digs up a load of questions. It has such a good plot and is very well written, I finished it in a bit over a day, I felt like I really understood the characters but that's probably because the story is written from the main characters (Cas) point of view it's such a good read and I can't recommend it enough, though I do know some of Carrie's viewers are young and the book does say on it that it's not for you ping readers but I was twelve when I read it thirteen now and I found now problem with it apart from the ending which is why I was so annoyed when I couldn't find the second book in the series, but now I have it I am so glad I found it as it too is really well written with great description and a great storyline (Sorry about writing loads I just couldn't stress enough how good this book is)

Thank you so much for that lovely list of books! I'm soon going to the UK on exchange and can't bring all my hard copy books with me, so I've been trying to find good books that I don't already have to put on my kobo for the trip. I'll definitely rewatch this video and pick some that peak my interest!
