This grinder looks like it does a great job, but the customer service is abysmal. I can confirm the QC is bad and I am not buying from them again because of the way they treated me during the process of trying to get it resolved. They eventually gave me a refund but only after blaming me and publicly attacking me. This happened early this year too, so their customer service has not improved with their recent hires. There are plenty of other grinders out there for a lot less money that do a fantastic job in their own right, so I hope consumers will inform themselves and not support companies that attack their customers.

I believe you, but I’m curious to know more about the QC issue and their response? If you’re going to charge these kinds of prices for products, they need to have excellent QC, and, even more importantly, a track record of making any issues right without a lot of fuss. I really don’t want to support a childish and unpleasant person either, which it sounds like accurately describes the WW founder.

@itsxris I would like to know if you had any issues with aligning the burrs while cleaning. You can look at the WW forum to see that there is a problem with burrs touching each other in order to grind for espresso on the latest batch. Can you share how many full numbers from the zero point do you grind for espresso? For instance, if the burrs are locked in 1.2, what level do you grind your light roast espresso? WW are consistently saying the problem is probably poor alignment, and I wonder what’s you take on this. Thanks for this amazing video!

Good to see you're happy with the grinder. Considering the cost, I'd expect it to be built like a tank and having to slow feed, RDT and put up with stalling just isn't good enough IMO.
@itsxris6 ай бұрын
The slow feed/stalling issues are primarily at lower RPM - I tend to exclusively use this grinder at 800 RPM and never have to slow feed/have stalling issues. But RDT is necessary. Grinder definitely feels built like a tank!

Weber sells $2000 salt and pepper grinders, $360 french press, $320 glass jars to put coffee beans in, $400 to get your EG-1 painted black, $475 WDT tool that doesn't even work well, $95 dollar tray to put filter paper in, etc. This company triggers all the red flags I have when it comes to overpriced products. Considering the price of their other products, I can't help but think anyone who pays $4k for a EG-1 is getting utterly scammed.

The $100 paper filter is the metal version that comes free from Aeropress. Salt and pepper grindet can be bought just about anywhere. The $400 french press that will crack if you tale it hiling like that stupid marketing video they made. And this tops it all at $3k with known issues and sketchy CS. This thing is a work of art. I would think the experience of using it would be quite rewarding. It seems a bit large in that, at 18 inches in height, it would not fit on many people’s countertops that have cabinets overhead. I wish they made a slightly smaller version; still, wow, this is so nice.

Try a DRM grinder. I got a Titus Expresso Grinder, No RDT, nor WDT unbeatable workflow, looks great and clean. No grinds flying all over the place and great tasting coffee used with a Flair 58, Argos, and cheap Breville infuser and for pour overs. Recently, got an Kafatek MC6, great tasking coffee for pour over and Espresso. However, you need to RDT and WDT and grinds fly all over the place. Clean takes time

It's not the burrs being holeless. It's the geometry. The DLC burrs in the DF83V taste totally different than the normal DF83 burrs, even in a DF83, is what the community has found, and there's only a slight variation of the burrs before the coating, but it's enough to very noticeably shift the taste. Burrs. Are. Weird. And I am here for it.

Currently I use Niche Zero, but next grinder I consider Weber EG-1, but I worry about service as I’m crazy about service quality. I put on my ‚black list’ so many companies like Volvo, BMW, etc. because of poor service. Then I’ll have to buy a new espresso machine, so I thought about Slayer, but it turned out that it needs a constant connection to water source. So that’s for me not an option. I consider La Marzocco Leva X, Nurri Leva L-Type (but this is 54mm group), Kees van der Weaten Spiritello (will be launched in may 2024) and looks like La Marzocco will introduce new version of GS3 this year (but knowing them changes will be probably minimal)

One of my biggest concerns about EG1 was burrs alignment, you explained it well, but still I cannot understand how with your hands you can sense the alignment that precisely, can you explain a little more?
@itsxris6 ай бұрын
essentially you push the 2 burrs together and just run your hands over the seams, if there's a bump - it's not aligned. shift it over a bit, and if its completely smooth, its aligned!

And have you notice this variation in RPM (from 500 to 1800 for a few seconds of unjamming) would be significant enough to make your beans wasted?

I would say end game grinder 8 years ago but today there are definitely better alternatives for cheaper with burrs offering more complex flavors. For that price I would expect everything to be more than good, zero stalling and most importantly better customer service. @@itsxris Finally, I decided to go with the EG-1, mainly because of its beauty. At 700 rpm, it didn't stall with my light roast. However, the thing that bothers me the most is that 1-2 coffee beans occasionally get stuck in the tunnel. To resolve this, I have to adjust the dial to a much coarser setting and let the beans pass through the burrs.
