I was 10 when these were on and I used to always stay up late at my nana and gdads watching Night Time. It wasn't even that good but it felt special : ) Why did life just feel better then? And things had meaning and were special and sacred.

"Kill Your Speed - Not A Child!" British PIFs (public information films) definitely make our PSAs (public service announcements) here in the United States look tame by comparison. The UK PIFs definitely grab your attention. Usually a staple of late night television, as even the BBC would run them prior to closedown back in the day. Of course, our PSAs in America used to be pretty thought provoking as well back in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I don't want to sound like an old stick-in-the-mud, but I think we have all gotten rather soft as a society.

I just realised who in their right mind would place a 'Kill Your Speed, Not A Child' advert in-between an animated advert for Caramel and an advert for Milk with a cartoon baby in it, where the children get injured or killed. I know it was Night Time, but it's still pretty ridiculous.

***** Well hopefully many drivers saw that and got to message to slow down. It may not be pleasant however road accidents are sadly a real thing, so that's why we have ads like these.

Probably mostly due to it being Night Time. Not exactly a prime schedule for selling adverts. They often would stuff it with PIFs in contrast to sold advert time. It was like that on late night TV over here in the US as well in the days before the DVR. I can still recall watching breaks on "Late Night with Conan O'Brian" on NBC as a teenager being coated with sobering public service announcements, as we call them over here.

@@krisstarring My point is that even if it was night time they could have had better standards and control over what ads are shown and when. Even though not that many people were watching, but then that's it, if barely anyone was watching, then hardly anyone would have complained about it.

The colour version of The Twilight Zone in early nineties UK? That must mean this broadcast is around 3:00am.

Yea, I used to record them on VHS as a kid. Often they were on at around 1-2am.

That's Mel Smith alright. He looks like a gigantic baby as it is so it was good casting.
