This is probably one of the reasons why none of the European coaches made it in the NBA. In Europe, especially in Serbia and Greece your coach is like your father, you respect and listen to him in the NBA the power dynamics is a bit different

Well the Greek translation was let's say ... kind? 🤣🤣🤣 The coach Ioannidis was infamous for his temper! When he was showing the ref his "coat" he was saying to the ref that he(the ref) had sold the game, that he had arranged the game, therefore he was not fair. He called him "coat". 🤣 I promise you it makes perfect sense in Greek.

It is all about the mentality and frankly it makes you a better person to be able to withstand this kind of thing. I remember two years ago the local basketball team in my village asked some of us old timers to play a couple of games with their teenagers team so the kids would lose their fear of playing older, stronger, taller people, while at the same time keeping things competitive since we were mostly 35+ years old and totally out of shape, ok? God knows how, but we kept on winning those games and the coach (in a nobody team, in a middle of nowhere village, right?) was FURIOUS. Shouting, swearing and losing his mind at the kids. We had to tell him to tone it down at some moment ahahaha but he was going OFF, in a friendly game against people that didn't even have a coach or a team. We were just random dudes that liked basketball and lived in the village. However, don't you think that this kind of thing gives lessons to the kids? I, for one, prefer that kind of wild intensity and competitive fire, compared to the lame "participation trophy" and "give praise to everyone" modern ideas.

3:30 so in greek we cuss with "heavier" curse words than english i'm realizing, because we actually say "(i) f*ck your/my Christ" or even "(i) fuck your/my Holy Mary" (and your house, your mother, your family line and so on) it's the greek equivalent to "for Christ's sake" but includes the profanity in it. so in english they needed it to be a "heavier" curse and switched it to "for fuck's sake" in a kind of anti-censoring way, opposite thing happened in greek, at 1:13 you hear Giannis Ioannidis saying the greek version of "for fuck's sake" i'm not going to give you a literal translation because it does not make sense in english but he's basically just swapping out "Christ" in the same phrase (the (i) is because verbs carry the subject with them in the ending of the word (like "i read" vs "she reads" except the verb changes every time)) also damn this man is in half of these clips and i'm watching this and i feel like i'm getting scolded through the screen 6:34 so, what i'm guessing he's trying to say is like "i'm begging you to play defence" or basically saying "(i'm asking you to) please play defence" instead of "may i please you" i'm saying that cause i'm a native greek speaker and if you translated the phrase word for word that would be the literal translation in greek, so i think he's just like literally translating what he wants to say and using an idiom from his native language word for word in english

In Spain we use a lot "I sh1t on god" "I sh1t on your wh*re mother" "I sh1t on the wh*re Virgin" ... In cursing, translations are never easy. Some expressions may sound terrible in another country, and lame in others. The social context is everything.

The female European leagues can run laps around WNBA players and win like 8 out 10 times. And like with European Handball they focus on going hard and play well and for me are more fun then the guy's at times, in European Handball that is.

No. Coaches do not get fired just for protesting. They could be punished with a ticket or something like that but not fired. They get fired if the teams will perform badly for the season or more than one season, but not for protesting. We have a completely different mentality.

I think European coaches would be very successful in the NBA. It changes the stagnant atmosphere of the NBA. European coaches are more ambitious and determined. This is also reflected in the stands. Fans watch the match like they're watching a movie. NBA teams should definitely open their doors to European coaches. For example, Ergin ATAMAN would be the best choice for NBA teams
