I'm surprised they allow you to have long nails. We are not allowed to wear makeup, have long nails, or wear jewelry if we are mixing drugs.

None of those are allowed at all in the IV room. I don’t even wear perfumes when working in the IV room. However, if I’ve attended an event the days prior and I still have acrylic nails on I’ll double glove. Those nails are impossible to take off.

I am seriously considering a career change! This is inspirational and informational - BIG-TIME! After seeing and hearing your enthusiasm and intelligence I am certain that I have a new goal now of becoming an Anesthesiologist. I just turned 40, so I am a tad concerned with my late start. Do you have some encouraging words for me? Do you think it is too late? I mean, “it’s NEVER too late, age is just a number” I believe those words mostly…but, realistically - I know it will be hard, but I am extremely interested in Psychology (as a Bachelors) and then going to med-school afterwards. Do you think tying in Pharmacy to me education would be beneficial…? edit: YOU ARE SO FANTASTIC! Thank you for this video and your hard work. Your accomplishments are fuel for me to move forward with a hard decision…but I really REALLY want it! You are a doll! THANK YOU SO MUCH.

This is wonderful. Can you show us an IV RX order that you get (but keep patient info hidden) and then show us how you calculate it and what percentage of what drug you need to use to mix and fill your medication while you’re filling? That would be so incredibly helpful :)

I had to check how old this video is coz the gloving was done wrong for the left hand. The skin should never come in contact with the sterile part of the glove ever. Also rinsing of hands MUST flow downwards towards the elbows before water turns off. Then wipe cleanest to dirtiest as usual. Thank you.
@PharmacyTechLove

Hi there, that’s not accurate. You allow the water to float from your hands while your hands are up. The water that was there turns off automatically.

If you don't mind me asking, Do you see this being your career? I've seen a lot of people be a pharmacy tech while in school or planning to do something else but I'm interested in making this a career, specifically an IV Pharm Tech. I find it really interesting and will be starting a program in January. After a few years, do you think your pay is decent? That's another thing I'm worried about. But I'd rather have a job I enjoy then focus on just the money.

Did you ever take the TPV test? If so, how was it? I'm scheduled to take it next month. I've been in academia for 13 years, but I'm very nervous to take it. I love training techs and students in sterile compounding. We actually use the administration port to prime the IV bag for the nurses when doing chemo. My college is a licensed training facility for NPTA/ACPE to train techs and students in sterile and none-sterile compounding.

Hello, I just found your channel. I’m a newly licensed pharmacy technician and got offered an opportunity to work in an outpatient oncology facility. @@PharmacyTechLove Not trying to be rude and I hate to say this but I agree... Im seeing a lot of breaks in aseptic techniqure here too. Improper hand hygiene including long nails, as well as wearing makeup. Beginning at around 4:18 you contaminated your sterile gloves more than once, espeically when you used your sterile gloves to dispose of the glove packaging. Not spraying your hands, IV bags or supplies with IPA before entering the hood. All ports and bungs should be wiped with alchohol prior to being taken from the hood to protect your checker and those handling the IV bag once it has left the pharmacy. Those are just the things I could easily see, I wasnt able to see your withdrawlal technique. Im not sure where you are practicng but these are all huge no-nos where I am certified.
