This is a better interview than most "professional" interviewers manage to do. He let the guest really explain his process. Jumped in with supporting points. I really enjoyed this. As I usually enjoy everything on this channel. Nicely done!

33:33 It's really sad that so many gamers today don't realise that the concept of specific miniatures being tied to a specific ruleset is something GW artificially created to tie people into "The Games Workshop Hobby". Before that, even in the days of WH40k: Rogue Trader (1st edition) it was the norm to just use whatever rules you wanted with whatever minis you wanted. That view has kinda persisted in the historical wargaming space and in the indie fantasy/SF scene, but it's sad that everyone accepts it as the norm when it comes to the big games. Hopefully the growth of 3D printing minis is helping to restore the balance a bit.

I use my GW minis for everything. They just make the best looking minis in my opinion. I have a bunch of Boardgame stuff but I don't like metal or resin minis.

Ivan seems like a creative, interesting, lovely guy who is a gamer for life. He is actively creating more games, expanding the worlds he has created and giving them more depth so people can continue enjoying them. Way better then a soulless team of suits trying to milk me dry for every penny I have. Keep supporting awesome creators Modiphius, you've got the right outlook. Thank you Trevor for the interview and all your great episodes of this saga. Good luck to your crew!

And in addition to him constantly updating and filling out his worlds, he leaves enough open for the players to interpret or interject their own ideas into it. Brilliant work.

Well, the 5P expansions do cost money...
@handsofrhythm3415 Жыл бұрын
@@liamtaylor4955 Is that your take away from this? After what has just happened with Hasbro/wotc and that GW prices never stop inreasing. You can be up and playing 5parsecs for 20 bucks. I'm glad they cost money, so Ivan can have a career doing something he loves. 20 bucks man......... have you even seen the price of dice these days?
@liamtaylor4955 Жыл бұрын
@@handsofrhythm3415 Oh, there's more. The "what just happened with Hasbro/WotC" was much ado about nothing, though I suppose it gave the youtubers something to write about. I started playing in 1975 and all we needed then was the concept, supplied by one kid with the pamphlets. Even the dice can be replaced with scraps of paper and such, like inmates do. As for inspiration, the Howard Conan novels are free. Yes, a 7 piece set of Chessex rpg dice is $8 CAD. A bit more through Amazon.

Your original comment inferred that Ivan's only motivation for publishing is the money. The spirit of that statement is not welcome here. You can take your snide remarks back to 4chan. As for the Wotc thing, you obviously have been skipping your meds old timer. Enjoy the rest of your lonely existence. Goodbye.

I started playing 5 Parsecs a few weeks ago and am loving it! I really like how Ivan seems to have hit the "sweet spot" for leaving details for the player to determine. I like to roll up an encounter, than then "plug in" the details for the campaign.

That's what I thought as well! Nine years ago I was playing solo with Ivan's FiveCore system. I also played Ed's "Two Hour Wargames", which Ivan mentions as an inspiration. I switched to Shawn's Ironsworn since the beta version and Trevor's Season 2 greatly helped me improve my games. It's probably time to look at Ivan's more recent creations.... I am so grateful to all these brilliant game creators!

Wow what a great show, I have to say Ivan is every bit the nice guy I always thought him to be, over the last 5 years or so I've been playing 5 Parsecs I have received many emails from Ivan, saying here's some more stuff you can add to the game that I've added. It's great to see his game doing so well, & I'm sure that your own great shows are bring plenty of new people into it, has how you play the game is an inspiration to everyone. Well done & please keep up the good work 🙂

You know the rule corrections in the comments, come from a place of love and support for what your doing... but I also love the Chris Tucker "buzz, buzz" quote. Great interview, loving the 5 Parsecs content.

I have yet to play 5 Parsecs, and I freaking love the idea. It reminds me a lot of Necromunda, which I dearly loved. Since I am supremely frustrated with GW in general, I'm happy to support another creator. I'm going to see if I can set something up for a group of friends to play through. Also, thumbs up for games with pew pew noises.

I think I had @ mentioned you on Twitter (when I was still on Twitter) that this would be cool for a season from a Modiphius thread. Then they responded that they'd work something out and, lo and behold! I'm tickled that it worked out!

What a great interview! I bought 5 Leagues from the Borderlands and I've used it as a great excuse to build up my fantasy mini collection. Lol. I love the minatures agnostic part for the reasons Ivan said. However I wish we'd get some official cards for monsters. Ivan is active on the FB group and I think that's awesome. This interview only further makes me want to support a cool "nerdy" dude like him. I think more "official stuff" also lets us give back to someone who has an amazing talent and brings us that gift of adventure to our tabletops. Btw I don't have any sci-fi minis but 5 parsecs..... haha

(Commenting 2x for visibility, mea culpa) Howdy! I was considering subscribing to the Patreon but I was hoping you could define what the exact, articulate difference is between the $10 Tier & the $20 Tier. If possible, I think this would be best answered in a video! Every creator has a beginning or/and end blurb about, "... please subscribe..." but shockingly few go through the efforts of posting an informational video to *showcase* (maybe via clips) what it is they'd be purchasing. Regardless, thanks for your time.
