you know i like the guy zak george, because he is not like the other positive-only trainers that only talk a lot and presents his results, he is at least honest even if his methods might not be effective, he uploads the videos regardless of whether they show the dog in an obedient or disobedient state. anyways, it is sad to see that many people are so misguided and shy away from the usage of aversive training methods just to let their dog pull them on a leash, a problem fixed within a day of using the prong collar. people have been indoctrinated sadly

It's okay Zach has millions of subscribers....not proof that more dogs and humans are getting the help they need. It's pretty amazing your dogs have you and many many people who get help from you. However, yes, it's time...to call out all positive fairy tail like dog trainers as they are spreading a lot of semi knowledge...which if not dangerous are producing dogs who have strange behaviour issues like toy addictions, and sadly who cannot think for ....

I totally agree with you and I would like to add, that English Nanny, Victoria, had a cocker spaniel euthanized on her show, because the dog kept biting the kids. The dog probably thought things were out of control. Instead of using a tool such as the e-collar, or even other method, to which I know she is against, sherather put the dog to death. It mad me so mad and I cried all night, because I know, in my heart, the cocker spaniel could have been reconditioned.

A little late in this but someone mentioned that it's the vet that recomnended it and Victoria agreed to it. With that being said, it's just one of many cases to show how ignorant and egoistic those positive trainers can be. If their methods don't work, they rather put the dog down than try other methods. To me, this kind of narrow minded trainers are the ones that put dogs at risk. I think all the science, behaviourist, etc etc.. they study from what? Based on what kind and temperament of dogs they tested on, and what stim level they used? What correction and the timing they used? is so vague all around but the so called positive trainers just had to put the good vs evil. The tools, if fall into the right hands, it can create the most incredible bond and understanding between human and dog. The communication is clear and precise. I don't see any distress dogs around my area using the ecollar or prongs, they are as happy as a dog can be. Again, if it falls into the wrong hands, it became the punisher. But to try to ban all these useful tools are unfair to so many trainers or owners who have done enough research and know how to use it. That's why I think most positive trainers are so one sided without looking at all angles. Dogs and humans are different, if they think that dogs think like we do, they have already done the damage to those dogs.

Not to mention she was successfully sued in the UK - I think for a dog wrongly being PTS as 'unmanageable' on her dog training programme, due to being cast and presented to programme participants as a dog trainer when in fact she was an out of work actress that moonlighted as a dog walker........ No training experience whatsoever. She has re-invented herself as a trainer, jumping on the purely positive/force free bandwagon (as I understand it) but she is not a trainer anyone with common sense would trust.

You can’t shock a dog into becoming a benign object. These tools are just for people who can’t handle dogs without it. It’s that simple. They’re a crutch. And in many cases that crutch can cause long term problems in some dogs. I don’t know why they is a revelation. If I were to shock you every time I don’t want you to yell at me then I’m not going to teach you why you shouldn’t yell and why not yelling us better and more rewarding. I’m just going to reach you that when you yell = pain. So I’ll be able to control you but you’ll never learn what I actually want from you and why. You just won’t do it because you’re scared of punishment. Do you not understand that this is not the best way to train a dog? You want your dog to offer you a behavior because they have been conditioned to associated the behavior with something good. In my analogy that would be you offering me silence. You’re not going to yell at me because your brain has been conditioned to release feel good chemicals by not yelling at me. The latter approach is much more difficult and tedious but better for the handler as well as for the dog.

Since you mention people like Victoria Stillwell and many i know, like her, remind me of my unpleasant school days where certain teachers used to try and control students ( in this case dogs and owners) with a sense of 'rules' and 'shaming', without truly getting into the depth of where the real problems lie. To understand the real issues like 'environment', owner family dynamics, pups genetics, upbringings, one needs to always look from a fresh perspective and not pre conceived notions of what a dog should or should not do....and that takes sensitivity and work that includes compassion and great intuition.

I train my dogs in a different venue(American Retriever Field Trials), but I totally agree about the e-collar. There is no more effective communication tool available. The closer in time that you can make a correction when a dog makes a mistake, the more effective and the better the dog understands. My dogs rarely get corrections due to teaching the desired behavior before enforcing/correcting it. My dogs are as happy as yours are here. They absolutely love their job and look at the collar and get excited to work. Keep putting out good information!

That's what soooo many people forget to mention. You don't teach new behavior with an ecollar, you enforce already learned behavior. The force free people pointing out that positive teaches better are showing how little they understand the situation.

@@Dogdaddy5560 Not when the desired behavior is demonstrated/displayed in the absence of the tool. In american field trials, training collars can't be worn by the dogs, but the dogs still peform desired behaviors/commands. Most people don't understand that we put restrictions on our dogs to give them much more freedom and for their own safety. I would much rather pop my dog on a prong 2/3 times with slight force and let him enjoy the whole walk calmy rather than see him choke himself out on a flat collar. I'd love to buy a high quality e collar for my dog and let him be off leash but I only have access to a cheap Chinese shock collar whose level 1 is fairly corrective and I don't want to use that because that is simply a shut down tool rather a training tool.

Man I got to say I have so much respect for you! No fear from the dogs, freedom, they are clearly happy and not scared or sad at all, everyone here in this video having fun and playing around, and everyone is well behaved too? Love it! And the fact you said that you even let the dogs get into their own confrontations with one another as well, and let them sort it out (unless it goes to serious dog fighting of course) is amazing! And the way at the end they all run around still playing with each other and having fun but also still listen to you when you say its time to go? Wow. If that isn't dog happiness and dogs having the time of their lives with each other, then I have no clue what is. You let the dogs be dogs, not let them be the way you force them to be. Only if you really have an issue per say. Goes to show its never the tool, its always the person using said tool. A E-collar is no more dangerous then your hands are, its all about the way you use it. You can decide whether you want to use your hand to hit and abuse the dogs, or use it to pet them. Same as the collar, whether you want it to be used nicely just to communicate with them, or if you want to be horrible and use it to abuse them. I don't think E-collars themselves need to be banned, but I think what does need to happen is that they should get rid of the ones that go up to a painful setting, and make ones that go up to a certain limit, so it never hurts the dog. This way even if these E-collars go to the wrong person they can never hurt their dog anyways, I think that is the best solution of both worlds. Much respect to you!

I will gladly put my neck out and say the ecollar is THE most humane tool for high drive dogs. I have a Border Collie with 10/10 drive that would be caged 99% of the day without a prong collar and ecollar training. Now he goes for 2 hour walks off leash on a local busy public beach with dozens or dogs and people around and he is free as a bird and no need to use the collar at all 9 out of 10 walks unless something unexpected happens. To the people like Victoria that frown on us and tell us we are cruel. I am sorry your dog got ran over and I'm sorry your dogs pulled you over because you walk them on harnesses and you broke your knee and wrist.

So I'm from where border collies were bred originally. There are border collies everywhere both working and as pets. Not one person in have seen has any form of ecollar. Now I don't know if Americans are either incompetent or the breed has gone completely fucked over there (your borders mentally unstable?) but weird how it seems to be the USA justifying these collars. They are even thankfully banned in most countries. Funny how Germany and the UK bred the vast majority of our current breeds yet they are 2 countries that ecollars are banned... Weird that... For me it's pretty simple like most things Americans try to find the easy lazy way. And will use any means to justify it.

There is NO other tool or method that can provide immediate communication over great distances. Used correctly an e-collar gives both freedom & safety in ways that nothing else can. It, therefore, enriches the dog's life. There is nothing more aversive to most dogs than confusion & an e-collar provides clarity. What works in skinners box is not applicable to life in real word. Genetics matter. What the dog finds rewarding matters. Most of all real world results matter.

I ordered an e collar, but the 'modern' trainers (all young) warned against using them. They told me to basically isolate my dog against 'triggers'. Help her feel more comfortable! Getting such contradictory advice about not using punishment or even using the word 'alpha'. That was my first clue. Dogs are pack animals, and you the owner wants to be the alpha. Positive reinforcements did not work on my dog. Finally, the last trainer offered me a sportdog brand sbc-r bark collar. Problem fixed, he behaves now, the shocks are not necessary, he knows. People are worried about the shock. It's a static shock, not an electricity shock with amperiums. It's the same static when you shake hands or when you take off a sweater made with synthetic fibers. It is not animal torture. A lot of dogs are euthanized and abandoned because of barking issues. It's not cruel

@@IvanBalabanov Could you please do a video on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), why it's important. Right now, I have a mixed dog of Boxer/Lab lineage with degenerative myelopathy. She comes from two breeds susceptible for DM, it is likely she received a gene from each parent. I am crushed beyond words, Mimi was my service dog, she has maybe a month left before the last act of kindness. When I tell breeders about the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, I get crickets, no reply, nothing. One breeder after I pushed him said he did reply which is BS, otherwise I told him, I would have been notified, again no reply as of late. The OFA xrays and genetic testing only adds credibility to one's breeding program regarding the overall health and soundness of the puppies. The breeder has a twofold responsibility, first to the puppy's health/soundness and a close second to their potential owner. Thank you.

Uneducated ‘trainers’ like her should not be telling people such crap! Chicken and cheese can only do do much before other methods need to be applied to keep your dogs, other dogs and livestock etc safe. Both my dogs are to be e collar trained for THEIR benefit and safety... responsible dog owners need to think seriously about believing PP trainers who cannot deal with or successfully manage difficult behaviour in some dogs. Great video.

Hello Kay. I have been training dogs for over 50 years. I completely agree with Ivan. I have 5 working dogs and like Ivan, I use the E-Collars on certain dogs, to maintain pack order and allow them the freedom to just be dogs. I can let my guys wonder up to 2000 feet from me and with just a beep from the collars and nothing else they return to me. Victoria, try doing that with your way of "training". Can you stop a fight with just your voice? I can.

I still think it's cheating using a mal for shutzhund but Ivan's style changed many of us in the early 2000's. I think we're all better for it. I'm still waiting Ivan to see you do some B.R. Thank you for the time, the repeat Z litter, and investing in us being better handlers. I still never got a legit NVBK title but I have 7 mals and 4 kids still using your methods today. I can hurt my dog with a fork as well, but that is'nt the way a fork is meant to use. Properly used, the e-collar is a very good and even human tool. Mr. Krohn uses e-collars to train fearful dogs with anxiety issues, how could that be if e-collars are so horrible. Would'nt the dog be utterly destroyed then? But he builds them up to be very happy and confident dogs in no time. Sure thing, it CAN be a horrible tool in the wrong hands. Just like a fork. Educate yourself, people. Mr. Stillwell here says, she follows the best in the world. Well, what have they achieved? To they train high drive dogs, or pet dogs only? It does'nt go higher than with a two time world champion, i'd say.

None of them better for training, and better for the safety of my dogs, than an e-collar ! The sad fact is, she makes good TV, I guess ? She has never trained a reliable off lead dog in her life. She knows so little about high drive dogs, or any dog for that matter, she probably believes her own bull crap. She defiantly can not show any results, and that's what matters. It is called a shock collar because you will be shocked how great tool it can be if used correctly. Two important things - quality collar and knowledge how to use it = happy dog, happy person, great results. The cheap collars with 3 settings (where the lowest one is soo intense even for a human, not talking about a dog that is more sensitive) should be banned indeed. And use of E-collar by an ignorant person without a proper training shouldn't happen either, that's mostly where problem lies.

Anything misused can be dangerous. If we give cooked chicken wing as food reward to dogs they will end up with serious intestinal injuries and high ER bills. Agreed! Not all dogs need it, used effectively and appropriately will not mentally harm a dog. Force free failed my aggressive dog for six years at no less than four different facilities over six years. E-collar saved my HA DA bite record dog's life and fully rehab'd her behavior within one year, out of a muzzle in six months with zero further bites. Some dogs don't need e collar because are sensitive so, you wouldnt use it and is a dog that responds vocally and likely highly handler pleasing oriented. Vibration collars and beep training is equally effective for super sensitive dogs and can be features of an e collar. Anyone placing a e collar on every dog without taking into account the kind of dog and stage of training, isnt a trainer or one you want to use. Way to ambassador Ivan! E collars save lives and save dogs on euth lists that have zero time here in Texas. Victoria Stilwell is, well, a paid TV face. Leashes are a means of controlling a dog's proximity. E-collar is the same, without needing a physical tether. If your dog can have freedom trained to respond to a beep, vibration, or TENS unit and or be behaviorally rehabilitated preventing human or dog harm, why would you not..

Quickly what I can say is that electric collar is not to be used by inexperienced dog drivers, or who think themselves capable of using it. @@IvanBalabanov to clarify: I believe that there are people who know dogs and how to use these collars correctly and without harming the dogs. There are others that do not know and they do harm dogs and do damage. I believe there should be 'regulation' to keep these out of the hands of the latter group. A lack of understanding , preconceived ideas, ignorance or simply uneducated about the benefits of dog training tools used by a competent person leads to so many dogs being euthanised ( another fancy word to describe what is essentially an animal execution, murder in another words). Surely if any dog could communicate in a human language they probably would prefer a mild discomfort over being put to death any day. To my mind these very people are not much different from religious zealots. Kind regards.

I agree with the use of e collars. It's the uneducated people that makes the tool a bad thing. It is a tool so it depends on the trainer to learn how to properly use it. It is use to enforce commands and not as correction. It helps condition wanted behaviors and prevent bad behaviors from becoming habits. My dog has all the free time and range she wants when we are out but i can still have control over her if needed. People hate on me when they see it in my dog but has no idea what it's for. I just tell them that's why my dog listen to me.
