I totally agree with the body shape criteria and it’s a great point that doesn’t come up very often. The offset jazz bass look is really cool but the comfort of the body shape for me has always been the main reason to play a PJ bass.

I have an older Super-J (2006) with P-J pickups and an a really awesome jazz neck. It's my go to for almost everything.

Thank you so much for your continued service to the Super community!!! (I'll be joining in a day or two, my SJ is on its way :P) I really liked the in between tones for the Super P which I wasn't expecting! (I'm really more of a J person) I wonder how close the 3 pickup super J would sound compared to say, an Afterburner ;) - I've been viewing the 3 pickup Super J more as a short scale version of the 3x rotary basses recently instead of comparing it directly to Jazz basses Hope all goes well with your knee in the future :)

The P would look better with a black output jack. Nice video though :)

Great playing as usual, well done Ivan. Really like bridge and middle on the Super J, the Super P is great but I think the Super J has a little more versatility.

Have you played a super. With a Super J neck ? Ive got a super P coming and I still have to decide on pickups. What are you playing this video for pickups on the Super P ? It sounds very good Great video !
@IvanBassist24 күн бұрын
I have not. Originally, i spec’d my SP with a SJ neck, but decided to go for the original neck profile afterwards. But i’m sure a P with a J neck would feel great, too! My SP now has the alnico Split P pickups, which are the standard pickup options as of now. Are you getting a 4 string or 5 string?
@michaelmacisco256624 күн бұрын
@@IvanBassist 4 string for me. 5 is tempting but I dont need the low B enough to dance around it for most things. I play mostly p basses now So I am leaning toward the P neck

@@IvanBassist I'm getting the standard model from John Fox vs an American P Fender. Should be available Jan - Feb

I really thought the super p sounded best with the front pickup isolated, and the super j sounded best in "jazz bass" mode. But obviously there wasn't a single bad tone.
@postrockmike919924 күн бұрын
Interesting! I think I preferred the Super P with fingerstyle and the Super J with a pick and slap. Maybe the pickups in the Super J sounded more similar to my Combusion?
@IvanBassist24 күн бұрын
Hmm they’re different pickups, but they’re in the same position. I’m guessing that definitely plays a role :)
@postrockmike919923 күн бұрын
@@IvanBassist yes, but they're all reverse p pickups under the hood. Nice comparison either way. I feel an import pj is in my future!

P isolated and series mode on the j... Which strings do you use?

Dingwall Nickel strings

Completely get the body shape comments. Particularly seated, much prefer a P-shape. But my company of choice at least don't make 24-fret Ps! So it's a compromise.

Totally different question : why did you have them made so similarly
@IvanBassist24 күн бұрын
The 1st one I bought was the Super P and I was so happy with the tone and overall spec that I wanted to have the same but in a J configuration. Also going for a “signature look” 😄
@jesuguru239424 күн бұрын
Loved them both, but to my surprise (I'm more of a J and soapbar player) the Super P sounded better (clearer, punchier) in almost every configuration.
@IvanBassist24 күн бұрын
I also love the P sound. Specially with these new alnico split P pickups
@sandz9b23 күн бұрын
the super P sounds like.....a PJ and MM bass have a kid. When on lower note string it sounds like regular jazz/pj style basses, but on higher note string it sounds like a MM basses.

En el formato tradicional del precision bass y del jazz bass prefiero el precision mil veces. Sin embargo, en este modelo prefiero las pastillas del Super J, a las que les noto un ataque y una presencia que a las del super P no.

@@mastermachetier5594 I mean I totally get spending too much on things that are fun - looking at my Warwick thumb in the corner… but most people probably wouldn’t be able to hear the difference between a 350€ sire p and a 1.2k fender p, or even up to something like a Dingwall or a Sandberg version of that.
