LS just a quick reminder - First of all Ibuprofen is not recommended if you have covid, take paracetamol instead. and second about the inhaler - i don't know which one you are using, it looks like salbutamol. You should not be using this more than 2-3 times a day or you will get the side effects that range from increased heart rate to tremors, vomiting, dizziness, agression. I am a medical doctor. Just advice - go and test for Covid as soon as you can.

I really liked the discussion about the coaching situation in LoL, as someone who grew up watching the NHL, NFL, etc. There is a reason why coaches in those leagues get paid so much money, often as much as star players, it can be a very thankless job. When the team is doing bad, everything is your fault and you're likely to be fired before any player gets blamed, and when the team is doing well, people just think you're along for the ride, unless your team wins for multiple years in a row you get almost no respect.

I am legitimately curious as to if you think your opinion of what a coach should be able to do themselves is eSport specific. Because it's not something you'll find true in any other realm. So in this video, everyone essentially agrees the coach should be damn good (master tier) and "be able to play with the players." And trust me ... I GET IT. How else can you demonstrate? How else can you show? I mean .. even at a basic level, how else can you earn their respect? But I can't help but look to literally any other realm and find that that school of thinking doesn't hold up (which is why I'm wondering if you all think it's eSport specific). Bill Belicheck, Nick Saben, Greg Popovich, Toni Nadal, Vince Lombardi, Jose Ferguson, Mike Brown, Erik Spoelstra, Frank Martin, ... hell, even Anatoli Tarasov (look that one up) could never be able to play with their players. None that I mentioned played at the pro level. Many petered out in/after college or regionally. Conversely, we've seen in both traditional sports AND eSports that former players don't necessarily mean they're great (or even 'good') coaches. In fact, many of the most successful college coaches of all time very clearly did not play beyond that level .. but have coached players to go beyond that level. Mike Krzyzewski, John Calipari, Geno Auriemma, Nick Saban .. the list could go on and on. In other words, these coaches are able to take talent and propel them far beyond where they personally ever could go. There's a reason Krzyzewski is asked every 4 years to coach our olympic team .. even pros think he's the best. Players that never had him or went to college like LeBron are in awe of his coaching and give him mad respect. To add, it is said in many interviews by these college coaches that they almost find it a detriment to have former top players as head coaches. In their fields, many of those types of former-players have a "this is how it's always been done so this is how we will do it" or a "this is what worked for me and it's all I know" type of attitude. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. And like I started .. I'm very legitimately curious as to thoughts on this.
@chrisgriffith6718
@chrisgriffith6718 4 жыл бұрын
I think where League is relatively newer than most of the sports I referenced .. I think it's harder for players to accept a coach who doesn't play at their level. I mean .. just listening to Dom, Dgon, and LS talk .. it sounds like they'd never consider the input of someone who couldn't themselves play with them. I am very positive that that mentality is prevalent in all leagues. They quoted Nuguri on it. It just seems closed minded and egotistical to think it's not possible for someone to be able to coach but not play at your pro level. It's so hard for me to get around the fact that it feels gate-keepy (I know that's not a word) to inextricably link coaching ability and playing ability. I think they make a strong case based on evidence that there are way too many current coaches who really don't know jack about the game and shouldn't be coaching. I think that that truth feeds into their belief and it's hard to argue against because there aren't good counter examples within League of Legends that I know of. Also .. don't get me wrong. Position coaches should be a thing on teams, imo. Just like in many other sports. And if they're a position coach, they better be able to demonstrate and keep up. I agree there.

Tbh most sports are just easy to learn and play strategically, irl coaching is more about having an experienced leader to give a more mature 3rd person perspective. Playing sports is all about physical ability and mechanical skills which are largly just genetic and mindless practice. Games like league are WAY more complex due to having so many significantly different variables (every champ and role is different). It's probably more akin to trying to coach 5+ different sports at once in a single game

The difference is you can get to at least diamond/master level through strategy alone in League, and if a coach doesn't have the strategic mindset to get there, they probably don't have much to say to their players. It's not like conventional sports where you need athletic ability to succeed to a decent level.
@nach0turtle21
@nach0turtle21 4 жыл бұрын
I think it's because LoL is far more like Chess than it is traditional sports. In Chess if you're coaching a bunch of 2000 rated players and you're 1800 rated you can understand why they choose to make the moves they do and provide an objective analysis of their decisions and tailor your practice/drill regime to address these pitfalls. If you're 1300 rated you can't provide anything other than simplistic feedback (like highlighting blatant errors) and thus limit the potential for improvement of your team. Other things like player management, administrative duties (organizing scrims, training timetables etc) and assessing the competition in broad strokes is important, however the inability to identify issues in laning, drafting and itemization limit a coaches effectiveness. I think if you got some high elo players and put them through a coaching program to work on communication skills and gave them a few books on game theory they would provide far more insightful analysis and overall 'usefullness' to the team than the overwhelming majority of coaching staff.

39:00 Do they really need a development year? Like around the world rookies just come in and play decently from the start. I still remember Humanoid coming in the first game in lec with Splyce and carrying hard on Aaotrox. The fault lies on the academy system or on the management of the teams that makes hard for rookies to become something positive in Lcs. Well at least Johsun and Tactical this year showed promise for this year.

I agree that it's important to know what rank these coaches are. You can't just have game knowledge, you need to be able to at least show your players what you want them to do and to be able to accomplish that you need to be skilled enough at a high enough level. Just like how high end sports teams are led by someone who was a high end player of the sport, League needs coaches who are/were high end players.
@DoAN1GHTMARE
@DoAN1GHTMARE 4 жыл бұрын
I disagree. There are plenty examples of coaches in traditional sports not being top level players prior to coaching. Bill Belichick and Gregg Popovich are a couple to come to mind and even in League kkoma won multiple world championships with SKT despite being gold himself. The most important thing for a coach is knowledge of a game, whether its league or football etc, rather than their ability to play it themselves. High rank can definitely be indicative of that, but is not always the case. Also solo queue is different from pro play. I'd take someone like kkoma over say Dom as a coach any day.
@gheare3
@gheare3 4 жыл бұрын
@@DoAN1GHTMARE Kkoma also comes from a high end Starcraft background so while he might not be the best LoL player, he's super high caliber similar to that of the head coach for Afreeca. I get what you're saying and I do think that sometimes you can be a great coach without having to specifically be a high end diamond+ player, but I (personally) believe that high end players could better at coaching since they understand the higher end points of the game.
@DoAN1GHTMARE
@DoAN1GHTMARE 4 жыл бұрын
@@gheare3 I definitely agree that they could be coaches. Hai is someone I think could very easily make that transition and succeed. I just don't think being good is necessarily a prerequisite to being a successful coach. There's also management skills that go into it among other things. I don't necessarily know the rules riot has for coaching but I'd almost like to see teams adopt the traditional sports approach and have multiple coaches with specialized roles, like how football has offense/defensive coordinators. So someone who has a very good read on the meta and spends a lot of time scouting other teams in charge of drafts. Another in charge of player development etc.

IMO Lillia is a good champ, but it's a HARD snowball one way or the other in pretty much any game. If you run into someone and you're behind levels and/or 1/4 of a core item, you're going to get run down and feel really sad. But if you have item advantage or have an early Runic Echoes you're just running people down with your E/R at max cracked out move speed and have pressure over half the map by clearing camps insanely fast too (invading with no fear etc)

I think the disconnect in coaching is that these orgs came from other sports before they got into esports. In every other major sport there’s plenty of examples of great coaches who couldn’t play the game at a high level. Coaches also have a higher understanding than their players in other sports as well. In league the top minds are usually the best players. Most coaches simply won’t be at top players levels of game knowledge
@jacobgreaney2809
@jacobgreaney2809 3 жыл бұрын
the situation of coaching is only true for league of legends. In Dota for example, an extremely similar game, a coach stood in for a player at the world championships and they ended up winning. the coaches in dota are just as good and knowledgeable as the players. There isnt any excuse for league. An esport like CSGO is more in line with conventional competitive sports as you have the players that have all the skill in a game with very simple rules where all you need to do is understand 10 or so fundamentals and work them in creative ways. That is why you would have coaches that dont need to mechanically be at the top of the game. League and dota is so complex and has so many mechanics (think of heroes, items and wave manipulation as 3 easy examples) with a constantly changing meta that it is impossible to teach the highest level without being at the highest level to understand the intricacies and even the baseline details necessary.

@Matt Obra so the point is that they are probably not comfortable having a champion that they won't know if it is balanced or not BECAUSE it's hard to master and if it's broken they won't know until it is too late because people won't have the hang of it until later

False 100T would have 10 points based on their spring playoff performance and 0 points for summer as they do not qualify for playoffs under the old system. Gauntlet is the top 3-6th placed teams in the LCS remaining. Assuming C9/TL are the likely targets to secure worlds then the following teams would have more: Flyquest (70 points spring + 20mininum points in summer) Evil genius (40 points spring + 20minimum points in summer) TSM (40 points spring + 20minimum points in summer) GG (10 points spring + 20minimum points in summer) 100T do not make gauntlet in the previous year format. DIG didn't make spring playoffs with 6 teams and sure as hell don't make summer playoffs with 6 teams. DIG would have 0 points. Nice lie though.

The saddest thing about the 100T Ryoma situation is that, had he been taken into 100 Academy, and given time to develop in that lower stress, lower profile situation, he would have at least had a chance to develop. Now, even if sent down, I'm not sure he will be able to grow properly. Unfortunate. One can't help but wonder what would have been had Pobelter been brought in for the midlane.

For sure it would help with his development but the reality is recruiting a player who has played 5 years of competitive LoL into academy would be idiotic. Pob wouldn't change the results. Not sure why NA is obsessed with mediocre mids that have peaked awhile ago and keeping him just because he's a fan favorite.

I think Lillia is pretty good in top if she gets a melee matchup she seems pretty hard to play in jungle tho cuz all she's good at is farming and getting level 6 on her isn't even that big of a spike compared to champs like Shyvanna, Nocturne, Fiddle, Eve and Karthus I can see her being ok in jungle if you're allowed to farm and you're really good with the E + R combo or your lanes have setup to allow you to hit the W sweet spot but otherwise it seems pretty meh but holy shit she is super fun when you get the max level Q I'm happy that Riot was able to design such a simple yet fun champion

I'm a plat 4 adc that just broke out of gold finally (having nabbed 13 penta kills while running throug). I've played something like 1000+ games of solo queue during the last 3 months, and I spent them playing to get my fundamentals down and learn how to win. And the level of play I see daily on the professional stage, and in ranked solo queue, is pathetic. People inting, my jungler selling his items, people telling others to get covid. Like its crazy cause I'll tell people that the level of pro play right now in NA is fucking abysmal, and they'll disagree with me so this video was such an amazing thing to see. I just want to see the best play possible in league
