The year was 2011. I was finishing my senior year of high school and me and my four best friends formed the League team OPMeta. We were unstoppable game changers. We spammed Poppy/Soraka bot and handily won every normals game that we queued. We entered one local tournament, got target banned, lost every game, and never attempted competitive League again. You used to start with 475 gold back then not 500 and Doran's Ring cost 450g so you couldn't buy a potion, which used to cost 35g. Sapphire crystal was 400g + 70g for the two pots though the point Dom was making about the different starting items is still true. This is how "Cloth 5" used to be a thing because cloth armour was 300g and the 5 potions came to exactly 175 gold (35 x 5) to make up the rest. It "Boots 3" and not 5 because as Dom correctly says boots cost 350g back then and not 300.

Correct me, if I am wrong, but back then, Riot didn't actually expect to have jungle as a role. The jungle was there as a catch-up option, if you fell behind in lane. That's why clearing the camps at level 1 was so insanely difficult... But that was also the good old time, where you could pick Taric Yi Duo Top and not get flamed for it...

I feel like people always comment on how bad the play was back in the day, but you really gotta think just how new everything was. Nowadays you can boot up the game for the very first time, and it will ask you to pick a role to play... back then roles basically weren't even a thing. Everything was still experimentation, you didn't have 20 websites tracking stats and finding out optimal builds, jungle clears, and strategies... it was the wild west.
