Last year, I bought a surplus Jericho sans rail and a modern Jericho F9 (full size) with (avec? lol) rail. The surplus one is single action only and in really rough shape, but the grip feels better, the slide is easier to grasp because it's more square at the rear, and the safety's click is much more positive. In fact, it's one of the most comfortable pistols I've ever held. The new one's grip doesn't look different, but it doesn't feel the same for some reason (even if I swap grips). The trigger is great in both pistols, but it's exceptional in the surplus one (probably because it's been shot a bunch over 30 years). IWI recently started making Jerichos (or at least the frames) in Vietnam instead of Israel (that's what the Z1 in the frame means supposedly), and even more recently started making the slide in two pieces and making the barrels with traditional rifling with a black finish (instead of chrome with polygonal rifling). I had to hunt a fair bit to find one that still had the one piece slide and chrome barrel. On Reddit, there have been two reports of the two piece slides cracking, so that's something to watch out for. Mine has the same finish issue in some spots although not nearly to the same extent. There's also a spot on the slide where the finish appears to have bunched up and appears thicker. Other than that, it's ones of the coolest looking pistols in my opinion. One other nitpick is that the rail slots are slightly too small to be 1913 by about 0.5mm, so I have to use a universal rail adapter for lights even though the shape is clearly supposed to be 1913. One thing I really like is that the safety actually blocks the sear itself, not just the trigger or trigger bar, which makes it VERY safe (but also prevents manipulating the slide if the hammer is down), and the firing pin block drops down instead of being lifted up when the trigger is pulled which is why the trigger is slightly better than a CZ75B. I've also tried to figure out what purpose it serves for me. Great trigger, great grip, takes CZ75 mags, looks cool, heavy as heck with a light on it. Bedside gun and range toy are really the only practical uses for me, I think.

So all the changes are just cost saving measures? Is this true of the Jericho enhanced also?
@riflemanm16a211 ай бұрын
@@matthewstreeter8805 Yeah, they're probably just cost saving measures. I imagine that the IDF's switch to Glocks made IWI more reliant on the US market for these pistols. One sneaky thing is that the frames no longer say "Made in Israel" but just "IWI Israel" since production moved to Vietnam. And, yes, the changes to the slide and barrel apply to the Jericho Enhanced (i.e. Jericho II). I thought about buying one of those but didn't feel like hunting for the one piece slide and chrome barrel again.
@matthewstreeter880511 ай бұрын
@@riflemanm16a2 dang, well I hate to hear that. My first ever semi auto pistol was a Jericho I bought back in the 2000’s when they were still being imported by magnum research. I love the thing, always thought I shot just a little better with it. Even over my CZ’s. I wanted to get a few more, in different sizes and what not to add to the collection, but probably won’t now. It is disappointing to hear about them cutting corners like this.

I have the full-size F9 version of this very same pistol; got it new about ten months ago as I write this. I carry mine OWB under my sport jacket for “sheepdog” duty at my synagogue, and otherwise it is a range gun. It’s a bit large and heavy for a general purpose EDC. I found that with the supplied IWI mags it works well enough with FMJs, but could be a little finicky with hollow points. I switched those out for Mec-Gar CZ75B mags and now it eats anything without complaint. Other than that the only change I made to mine was replacing the OEM sights with a set of Meprolight tritiums. With the Mec-Gar CZ75B mags it is the most reliable semiautomatic pistol I own. It is easy to shoot accurately and also very easy to maintain. I’m very happy with mine.

I have the 941 FS in .40 s&w and it's my favorite. In fact, I stopped buying handguns after I got it because nothing else felt better in my hands. It's insanely accurate and the weight reduces muzzle flip. In five years I've never once had a FTE or any other kind of misfire, even with cheapie steel target rounds. The trigger is beautiful with 10 lb and a crisp 4lb pull respectively. It's very heavy in weight but I still use it as my concealed EDC because I really don't find myself wanting to carry anything else. To me, the Hebrew Hammer is perfect.

@Barry_Garza11 ай бұрын
@@theoduce1695 This is not a review of the historical Jericho 941, this is about the currently offering being imported by IWI USA. Your 90s pistols are not suspect of being made in Vietnam. These current IWI USA imported Jerichos are likely being made in Vietnam because the inside dust cover of the frame is stamped with Z1, which is the factory stamp of Factory Z111, a Vietnamese government arms manufacturer. Parts being finally assembled in Israel may be what is allowing current (read for reiteration: not ones made 3 decades ago) being stamped with Made in Israel. Prior to this recent product change, IWI had been utilizing Italian made Tanfoglio frames with similar frame markings designating not Z1 but IT TF. Also, of Magnum Research's current handgun lineup, the BFR and Desert Eagle are the only lines they manufacture, which they do in the USA. Their other lines, the 1911 and the current Baby Eagle III are made in Israel by Bul Armory, and imported by Magnum Research to the USA. Bul Armory had also begun to import different 1911 and double stack 1911s under their own brand, but they both manufacture items for MR to import and import other lines. I emphasized "current" because this assertation is related to products in the company's current lineup - not older products irrelevant to the conversation.

@@theoduce1695 my Baby Eagle is stamped Desert Eagle, although it is a Baby Eagle. It is also stamped Bul Ltd, which is Bul Armory. It is imported by Magnum Research. As far as 90's Jericho's... They were great guns. IWI, in the last year or two, started to make there guns more cheaply by outsourcing the frames, yes to Vietnam. Do a search on the Z stamped frames. Justin Opinion's clearly showed it is stamped with a Z inside the frame. Also the barrel is no longer stainless silver but black nitride I believe. And the notorious 2 piece slide that IWI snuck in. Look in the instruction manual and it doesn't even show a 2 piece. I was going to buy one last year so maybe they have changed the manual to reflect it

I bought the steel IWI FSL with the obnoxious QR code engraved that you feature, and even relaced the spring. It is a pleasure to shoot as well but I get stove pipes from time to time, and a jumping follow up shot that feels unsafe. It mainly sits as a cowboy bebop relic, and I do not carry it. I will fix that issue with a stipple job at some point if I don't trade it for a steal framed version. You mentioned that it doesn't have a decocker. I'm wondering if that doesn't have to do with the IDF's manual of arms. They carry it with an empty chamber until needed. Also, the 941 in the name is a combination of the calibers that it came in. The Steel variant must be prior years to the {2020 and on versions} as the barrels are Button Rifled and Nitrided. The prior years are Chrome Moly barrels and with a Polygonal bore. The 2020 & on versions have a small piece that works with the guide rod. Reports indicate that this small part to fail and break. At around the 2,000 round mark. Indicating a weak point in design. And the part being the weakest link. As this military design of the CZ 75 has proven itself with the military and the police worldwide for several decades. I always speculated that I get more velocity out of the long 9mm barrel than other comparable pistols. Recently heard or read someone attribute it to the octagonal barrel. I think there’s something about it that is true. Nice gun, I like it despite the sights not being great as set by the factory.

I love Jericho’s, and own the full size, railed 941F with the polygonal rifled stainless barrel and one piece slide design for my home defense pistol. I also have a few of the older, compact ‘Baby’ Jericho’s, the 941 FB and RB which I actually carry regularly. Those are my absolute favorites in my handgun collection. However, I really don’t like a lot of the decisions IWI has made with the Jericho over the past few years, both from a design, manufacturing and marketing standpoint. It’s like they don’t show their flagship pistol the respect it deserves, and they never seem to understand how to market it to the American consumer. They’ve been trying to push these janky polymer versions of it for years that go nowhere, they import this goofy ‘semi-compact’ Jericho size (short barrel with full grip frame) that makes no sense in an American market, they stop offering the classic rail-less version years ago, they have the frames made in their Vietnam factory, they switch from the stainless barrels to conventionally rifled barrels, go to this ridiculous two piece slide design to save a few pennies, and make seemingly no attempt at any effective product placement of the Jericho in movies and games. Hell, if the Japanese hadn’t made “Cowboy Beebop” over twenty years ago, over half the guys who’ve bought Jericho’s in the past several years would never have never heard of it! The Jericho 941 is a really good shooting, fantastic looking pistol, and if IWI only took some time to manufacture and market it in a way that showed respect for it’s history, and with an eye towards US consumers who appreciate it’s qualities, the pistol could be so much more.

Something I find interesting about this pistol is that it’s designed as a single action with a second strike capability. In the Israeli method of carry, which is to carry with an empty chamber. Meaning you have to charge the pistol when you draw giving you the nice single action. If I were to carry this pistol with a round in the chamber I’d treat it like a 1911. There should be an almost imperceptible feeling of recoil considering the weight of that firearm. The problem with a standard decocking lever is that when you put your left hand on top of it, provided your right handed, index finger and thumb will go to the back of the slide, and if you hit that decocking lever you disable the pistol should not be used on a firearm that you use to defend yourself, or for police officers. It was designed by Carl Walker in 1929 for the specific reason the firearm. And then you push it back off

My error on the barrel design. It does indeed tilt, though to a small degree compared to many.

You can turn it into a decocker if you AIWB with safety off.

Strange that they don't make a decocker model... It's the main advantage of a DA/SA platform in my opinion.
@davidbayne284511 ай бұрын
They now make a slide mounted de-cocker only version.

Its definitely a really nice gun and I'm good without the safe hammer drop.

As I accept I'm a mediocre shooter, I've not questioned the notion that all guns are more accurate than me. And then I shot the Sig P320 X-five Legion. Suddenly I was considerably less bad. Now I want to know exactly why I'm so much more accurate with that gun, though I'm also more accurate on average with any Sig gun than others. I'm partial to metal guns and the Jericho has long been on my list, but I don't like buying anything without at least handling one first. Of course shooting one first is much better. Getting back to the Sig p320, no doubt the gun weight, the Dawson Sights, the 5" barrel and the ported weight balance slide all contribute to the relative ease of shooting the gun. Maybe comparing defensive pistols to one leaning more towards a competition pistol is inherently unfair? Looks to me like you shot the Jericho well. Is it among your 5 most accurate?

Think the idea is to carry it cocked and locked like you would 1911, but have a double strike capability unlike other double action firearms with decocker like Beretta 92

Agree - but it weighs as much as a boat anchor, so I just don't see it as a serious carry option.

Cool. If IWI offered it with a decocker and longer barrel I’d be all over it.

Not the most awesome handgun ever, but you certainly wouldn't be under-gunned or outgunned if you chose it, and the cool factor is definitely turned up to 11.

1. Weighs a ton.. 2. sa/da with no decocker that'll take an unnecessary time to learn.. 3. Lack of aftermarket accessories.. 4. A large beavertail that'll jab you in the appendix.. What's not to like??
