I live in Northern Sweden and at first I got confused by how you could be so very impressed by an ordinary snowplow, but when you commentated that you thought that was a significant amount of snow I remembered that not everybody considers the amount of snow that's on the road in the video like something you get daily, and the snow on the side of the road isn't that deep either. But after seeing your video I realized that I have been taking snowplowing for granted and that I should start appreciate them more, and you're absolutely right, they are awesome machines and the people who drive them are real life heroes. So thank you so much for opening my eyes.

If you are a Scania fan, you should check out the KZbinr Bruce Wilson. He's a Florida American, that recently bought his second Scania truck, up in Canada. He has like 6-7 videos, from going to Canada, importing the truck to the states, showing it to friends (mechanics), taking a trip to Scania factory on Sweden, and driving a bunch of trucks there, going to Finland, to visit a famous Finish semi truck workshop, buying an engine from the guy, and traveling back to the states. All within the last few months.

Here in Finland, the driver uses active joystick for the side blow to clear up bus stops and similar extensions while driving past them on the road. The controls are fast enough to extend and pull back without slowing the truck down for the bus stop.

Nice shots, but a single truck just showing off on an almost cleared road is nothing that really impresses here in Sweden. The skill of the drivers is insane, if there's a guard rail it's usually less than 2 inches of snow left between the clean road and the rail. What really impresses are when you see highway plowing with tandem or triple trucks plowing all the lanes from left to right in one pass. Usually in pretty bad conditions. If there's 5cm of snow on the 1:st lane, the truck on the 3:rd lane has a lot of work to do. Search KZbin for example for "6 minuter från plogbilens verklighet | Trafikverket", includes some jack as Swedes trying to pass the plow on the wrong side.

It also has what we call "under bite". A scraper blade that tears the ice and adds traction to the roads after polishing it off with the front blade.

The best thing about these truck is, in the winter they're used for snow removal, but then in the summer they're not parked up in some garage not being used for anything, they're regular trucks that just get a snow plow fitted to them when winter comes, rest of the year they have other jobs to handle And yeah, here in northern Europe the winter so far has been insane this year, atleast in the southerrn parts and compared to the most recent decade or so, Im pretty sure that here in my local area, we've gotten more snow in just 1,5 months so far, than we got all winter long added up last year!

I wouldn't call it insane. More like finally a proper winter. Climate change has taken most of the normal snowy winters away at least from southern Finland. When I was small we had lots of snow every winter. It's so much better to see streets covered with white snow instead of grey/brown slush. It's so much brighter during the days with snow.

Same in the Netherlands regular dump trucks and hookarm trucks from contractors then fitted with plows and salting equipment all localy made by Nido owned by the goverment. Its verry cool site to see 6 plows clear a 4 lane highway in one go. But snow is rare over here.

Jag köpte en gård i Sverige för två år sedan. Det är verkligen fantastiskt hur bra vägarna hålls på vintern och denna vinter är den kallaste på nästan 150 år när min farfars mor kom till USA med sina föräldrar. Ja, skillnaden mellan en Scania och en Volvo tung lastbil är mycket mindre än en snygg Chevy LS och lite Mopar, men Scania är nära att vinna mitt hjärta! Ännu bättre är att Turkeiya just har stöttat Sverige i Nato! I bought a farm in Sweden two years ago. I have always been a Volvo enthusiast and I have to say that I am leaning heavily to a Scania for my business here. I moved my log home business from Oregon to a farm about three hours north of Stockholm. My location is roughly 10 miles south of Talkeetna, Alaska for those of you who know your geography. It is one hell of an adventure at 73 (no typo there), but it is well worth everything that it has taken. Yes, the difference between a Scania and a Volvo heavy truck is far less that a nice Chevy LS and some Mopar, but Scania is coming close to winning my heart! Even better, is that Turkeiya has just supported Sweden entering NATO!

Its so funny to see that you are surpriced by that Scania's ability to climb that hill around 6.30 in the video. Here in the Nordics we have both snow and hills, so we are both used to and prepared to deal with conditions. So we use proper winter tires (not all seasons or all terrain!!) and if nessesary snow chains, and we also have plans on how to deal with the snow and winter conditions.

yeah... we had shit-loads here in southern Norway too, the town of Risør had like 102cm with snow on 24 hours starting like 8 in the evening of the 31st, and that was on top of the 30cm that we already had... and it snowed for 3 days... talk about great start of the new year. and now it are to come even more... (there is like 5 large green-houses that have already collapsed and damages for 100+ mil NOK) here it was so bad that even the Scania and Volvo's with plows had to give up some parts since the wall of snow on the side got to high for the plows to trow over... so we had to wait half a week for the Claas and John Deer tractors with front-mounted Snow-blowers to arrive from north

This is a hooklift truck, a favored type of truck by owner operators over here because it's basically an all-in-one dumper/20-foot container hauler/flatbed that can do a variety of jobs in the summer (delivering asphalt to roadworks, hauling construction refuse from renovation projects, etc); and in the winter you hook a plow to the front and salt- or gravel-spreader at the back and get to work combating the great white enemy. Many of them are *really* nicely kitted out, and if you watch any kind of truckspotting videos from here, there's a bunch of them at every event, with custom paint jobs, heavy duty lighting rigs with headlamps and beacons and the whole kit (for the whole snowplow thing in the winter), and often the typical polished chrome asphalt halfpipe because it looks nice at a show.

Nacka, Stockholm, Sweden here! We have gotten plenty of snow this year. There’s so many plows around on the highways the Scania’s and Volvo’s trucks are common. On the local streets we got a lot of tractor based machines in a variety of sizes, some really small for clearing sidewalks with integrated sanders for traction so you don’t slip and fall when out walking.

That unit is accually carrying 2 snow plows at front and side + a grader at the middle center. So it accually plows and planes the icey road in one sweep. NOTE: The grader was down -and active in the up hill climb too. And: Yes: SCANIA trucks are MONSTERS! (Simply: Equal to none...)

Southern interior Norway here - on the 4lane motorway in this region during heavy snowfalls they're driving plow 'trains'; aka two 4axle plow trucks like shown in the clip diagonal after an other, with the outermost also carrying a mid-mounted sideplow. When it's closer to 0 deg they tend to pull trailermounted Øveråsen brooms (smaller in scale but very similar to those found at air strips) to brush pre-saltsoaked wet snow off to the side

Road operators basically make their won rules, so tractors are in the clear.

here webhave about 1m (3.3') of the white stuff, not too cold, just -12 Celcius (10F). I live in Northern Sweden, here we had 1.6m kn two days a few years ago, no disaster, some couldn't get to work (5% or so), busses where late... but those plows where out 24 hours a day in huge numbers, keeping main thoroughfares clear and next day everything was more or less back to normal, some private roads still blocked and such, but no deaths... to name one way we coped, a local a nurse realising that some older people couldn't get to healthcare appointments just strapped skis on and went out to do housecalls, she saw it as a good workout.

Central Stockholm here, there was some machinery here a few hours ago, clearing the street from snow. I presume it was mostly Scanias and Volvos. In addition to the trucks there could have been some Volvo BM (BM = Bolinder-Munktell, a tractor maker that was long ago acquired by Volvo) tractors or so too. When I was a kid, the city buses in my home town weren't Scania, but Scania-Vabis.🙂 Vabis was a car/truck manufacturer that merged with Scania in 1911 to form Scania-Vabis. They kept that name until they merged with Saab in 1969, forming Saab-Scania and dropping the Vabis name for good. In the 1990s, Saab and Scanis parted ways as GM acquired Saab Automobile, and from then on Scania was just Scanis, with no Saab or Vabis.

In1976 I got a job with a small city up in BC Canada. My first day plowing snow and in fact my first day in a large dump truck I had zero training. I was ordered to get in the truck and to go and plow snow. I began to tell the foreman that I had never been in the drivers seat. He told me go plow or you are fired. It wasn´t a lot of snow on that road...you should see when they come to plough 1 m snow after a storm here. Seeing the truck coming down the slope from the forest at night with the cascade of snow shimmering in the lights on the truck... My hubby has been ploughing a couple of winters, now he is clearing snow in the big city instead, using a cargo tractor and snow blower to fill the trailer to ship away all the snow from the inne city to snow dumps. They have to drive the truck up the hills of snow and they are very high. Reverse the truck towards the edge and then dump the snow. A colleague got stuck at the edge last week, but better that than going over the edge. I sometime came along when he drowe the plough in the countryside here up north in Sweden, that was fun.

We had some very cold weather in Scandinavia (and Finland) the last few weeks and a good helping of snow to top it off. I am on the west coast of Sweden so both the sea and the Golf Stream help warm it up. Nevertheless it was -13 C (8,6 F) last week. A couple of days ago it was -8 C (17,6 F) with 88% humidity and decent winds. That cold leeches into your bones.

I live out in the countryside in the middle of Norway, with tiny roads everywhere. So here they use (farm)tractors to plow our roads. We had about 60 cm of snow until the start of the weekend, but now most of it have melted away due to warm weather and heavy rain.

I really take them for granted it seems. To me the heavy duty is the motor grader we have in the county (some Cat model I believe) which is kitted with snowblade kit for winter. Also in the factory area we have a loader with a reverse plow which allows it to drag snow away from buildings and loading terminals. In the end I live in rural area with lots of farmers, so I have plenty of neighbours that can clean my entryway in a matter of minutes with tractors that have scoop at the front and blower at the rear.

Which axle is driven? You can see it on the planetary undergears of axis 2 and 3. Axis 4 is only used if there is sufficient weight. There are different configurations. Since this is a dipper and is suitable for delivering to construction sites, 2 driven axles are strongly recommended. With a flatbed loading area, they sometimes only have one driven axle without reduction gear, due to fuel consumption. They also often have “Hydrodrive” for transporting wood. They have a hydraulic motor in the wheel hubs of the 1st axle that can be switched on at low speeds. My dream would be a hydrodrive on the trailer. SAF has been offering this since 2019 but my boss hasn't warmed up to it yet.

About the price on a Scania plow truck, a ready and fully loaded has the pricetag around $400k give or take. And for the color, its called "BDX-green". BDX is company in Sweden that basically is the mother to the majority of trucking companies in Sweden and all companies who works i collaboration with BDX has their trucks wrapped in that green color

Yep . . Scania are great , and also my favorite truck brand with Volvo on second place . But to meet one of these , or those big timber hauling trucks , on narrow roads out in the country side here in Sweden can be a bit of a p.i.t.a . . Because those big rigs just can't enter the to far out on the edge of the road because they're so heavy and will end up in a ditch . Neither they do slow down or they might get stucked . So it's you who have to make space/ give way for those beasts and plow out on the absolute edges of those narrow roads . And if you'r unlucky you will end up in a ditch or get stucked in the masses of snow . By the way , I love winter and don't mind cold weather even if I do prefer our summer here in Sweden . . 😁😎 .

That truck is called a Tridem truck because of the 3 rear axels, 2 driven axels that's fully lockable and a lift axle and he also has that small grader blade beneath the truck aswell wich they use combined with the front and side wings, those amber lights are used to indicate road work vehicles or recovery vehicles to indicate caution and can also break alot of traffic laws with them on, it's the same on loaders

I used to drive those all winter, clearing the freeways round stockholm with snow and ice. Sometimes I also had the side plow and we usually plowed three trucks in a V pattern, clearing the whole 3 way freeway in on go. With exits and onramps. 😊. I also always hade 16000 litera of salt on the back to, dispensing it in certain co conditions. You can actually get that scania with 6x6 with 6 differenta diffs. I used those when I hauled tanks in the army 😊

Guy Martin, the incredible English motorcycle racer and heavy diesel mechanic, works exclusively on Scania trucks at his dad's workshop. He swears by them. They have a reputation as excellent trucks here in Australia too. Comfortable, powerful and reliable.

plow trucka are not all that common in Australia In Victoria, the snowy season typically falls between June and August. The average annual snowfall throughout the state is around 65 inches, though you can expect the majority of that snow to be located in the mountains.

I live in Small town in Estonia. On 4am morning we have 2 tractors and 2 heavy duty semis plowing snow. Another heavy duty Tractor is butting the snow on the Tip lorry (usualy Volvo or MAN) who allso has plow in front. I work at open pit mine in finland, and we have scania plow truck, with front plow that tilts left to right, side blades both side of the truck, gravel spreader back of the bed, and scraper under the truck. (Don’t know the right name for it) but you can see one of those in this video also.

Lights like that are common in trucks here in Finland. we have long dark roads and at winter there is only couple hours of sunlight so you need proper lights to see where you going on narrow roads between trees. I have 250 watts of led's on my stationwagon and i feel like i need more.

Remwber also most of these lorries do have automatic chains for the rear wheels on demand by a switch on the dashboard which then activates a spinning device with chains attached like it was a propeller type thing.

That Scania has a plowblade under the truck behind the front axle too. With that you can skrape ice and in the summer time scrape dirt roads.

Some years ago in Sweden they got special "High Speed Snowplows" for the Motorways/Highways. The normal speed during plowing was 50 km/h (30 mph), but you get too much congestion behind the snowplow and many car drivers was much too impatient and tried to overtake the snowplow - which didn't always go well, spinning around and ending up in the ditch. So to reduce that they got the High-Speed Snowplows that does the job at 80 km/h (50 mph) instead. On the question of whether it is a good idea to overtake the snowplow or not, you can look at how much snow the plow is throwing over to the side - That's what you have to deal with yourself if you overtake the snowplow. / B.

Yes'rrr here in Buffalo NY in the snow belt region of the Great lakes we get a looooottt of snow ❄️ it is not uncommon to have 5-6ft tall snow piles separating the two lanes in the roads all winter long... It is usually pretty easy to spot folks who aren't born and raised here because they're usually the ones upside down in ditches or stuck in their own driveways 😂 those of us born n raised here can drive in snow just as well as if it were summer time...

5:59 that hill is nothing 😅 You will barely notice it in the truck. Norway here: Scania is, i would say, the most common plow trucks you see here. The 2nd would be a tractor 😂 Its been a wild winter so far with record breaking cold all over the country, and snow is anything from 50cm to couple of meters and most of it came in a couple of days in the South / Southwest that really dont get snow in the winter normally. I live more mid'ish inland and the cold been all over the scale from close to 0 to -35c. Just had two days with -27 and today its nice and comfy with ~-15c.

Check this out: "POV Driving Scania 590S - Winter has arrived!" Nighttime (or early morning?) drive on snow covered roads in Sweden. Reindeers spotted! Apparently you need a rock solid lighting setup to spot the animals early, and boy does he have a good setup. Kristo Bogiski has a lot of nice POV driving videos on his channel.

I make those trucks. I'm in northern sweden, so I see those all winter. Recently, we got about 15 inches (not that much, to be honest) of snow here. And right before that we had almost a week with temperature below -40° Fahrenheit. So those trucks are working in rough conditions.

This Scania truck is equipped with frontplow, sideplow and scraperblade. I don’t now if you’ve noticed the scraperblade between the steeringaxle and the 2nd axle (first drivning axle)? Look right behind the steeringwheel at 4,55 when you stopped the video, then you will see the scraperblade…

In Sweden, as far as I know, the regulations regarding car lights are not any more lax than elsewhere in the EU, but enforcement of the regulations is completely non-existent. But it would seem to have a fairly typical Northern European truck light set. At times, similar additional light sets can be seen both here in Finland and, for example, in Norwegian trucks.

Sweden does have exceptions for lighting compared to EU. The rule is not to exceed a reference value of 100, in Sweden there's no limit and you can mount as many extra lights as you wish. There are regulations though about where you can place lights as decoration, so you could get fined for that. But high beam, just go nuts.

In sweden untill very recently you had to have a full C license to drive anything heavier than 3.5 tons (apart from farm tractors). This made it so all the people working with road works had to have a C license that in turn made it so heavy trucks. So that is why they have those 32 ton trucks with the snow plow. And for a truck that large the snow is really light. I dont know if its still true, but at least in the olden days theh had automatic snow chains that deplyes when they start whell spin at low speed.

What are you talking about. C license until very recently. C license is still what's needed to drive a heavy truck. And what 32 ton truck? 32 ton is total weight fully loaded.

@@catd11ng74 recently you needed a c license to drive like a 5 ton pick up, you don't need that in the us. And since the rule change a few years back, neither in sweden, now there is a C1 license for medium weight truck (3.5-7.5 tons) and also C1E license for medium weight truck and trailer (up to 15 ton) also the maximum weight for BE have increased a bit. The maximum road leagal weight of the truck for a BK1 road.

In this video it is not fully loaded so this truck does not weight 32 ton as it is. And yes the weight limit with b license is 3500kg. But do you think an empty volvo weights 3500kg. No it does not!!

S?N?O?W? What the hell is snow? Here (in a temperate climate) we had something like 1 millimeter (I can't convert in, in imperial) of a white and cold powder last week (it was about -4°C, 25°F. I went to Canada early december and my plane was supposed to arrive 2 hours earlier, and in Montreal there was snowing for 2 hours (so snow was supposed to start at the exact moment I landed). To go to my hotel i followed 3 enormous snow plow (the first turned at a crossroad and the second at another one too but i stayed behind the third one because i was unable to see where i was) but i was as amazed as Ian is to see foreign snow plows because here, the fact to see 3 snowplow following each other is unthinkable! One snow plow in France (not in mountain of course) it's something so rare that we don't even know if they'll start for the next snow fall During my time in Canada i experienced temperatures about -25°C (-13°F) with 3 to 4 inches of snow on the car every morning. it's.....slighty colder than here

I live in the Swedish countryside with narrow roads. It’s a flat, open area so the snow drifts are terrible. Meeting one of these snow plows on a narrow road here can be scary. Luckily I drive an American Jeep Wrangler 😁 and usually have no problem.

The earlier you see it coming the better, this video was filmed on rather narrow gravelroads with spread out meeting slots. Lights high up on the rear makes trucks easier to spot when the falling snow is being turned into a cloud behind these. EUs rule that trucks can only have two lightspots on each side of the rear is clearly dangerous when trucks are limited to 80km/h and you can drive 110km/h and the whirling snow gradually builds up behind when you catch up on one!

Its actually funny. This is a dream scenario. I live in the country side and the road is so buckled by the ice so max speed is like 30 km/h.. they dont put the plow down all the way because the wear. Its better that we change all our bushings on the car once a year.
