Dude, i hope the 'mericans like me push NASCAR to adopt some of your race series traits. I dont wanna see them duplicated, but it would be the shizznizzle if NASCAR could do more to represent American gearheads than present the current "Complex Destruction Derby, now with more random ass caution laps!" Its embarrassing, in my opinion. You guys have some proper wheelmen. 4wheel locked brakes sliding up the inside of another driver on a street track.. Proper knock down drag out wheel banging hard but fair racing. Plus your V8 Supercars do sound lots better than NASCAR. Likely cuz nascar is usually just holding the throttle at 100%, versus regularly rowing gears. May your oil pressure stay consistent, may your tires smoke out the stadium and not be bald, and may the motor oil remain glitter free. .......unless you like the glittery bits, then by all means get after it!

I have 2013 Ford FG MK2 XR6T Ute, but an SVG fan. Here’s what you need to know about a lap that no longer exist as a record…. McLaughlin piloted his Ford Mustang around the 6.213 kilometre track in a scorching two minutes, 03.3783 seconds lap to claim pole position in the Great Race for the second time. The star Kiwi then went on to win the Bathurst 1000 alongside co-driver Alex Premat, but by that stage the team had replaced the engine in question after engineers spotted a potential issue. But on Sunday CAMS stewards released their decision regarding a technical breach in the #17 Shell V-Power Racing Mustang's engine used by McLaughlin in qualifying and the shootout. The engine was examined by Supercars' technical personnel and the valve lift in a number of cylinders was found to have exceeded the maximum permitted valve lift prescribed for car #17. "Following the event, engine 009, which was used in car #17 in practice sessions one to seven, in qualifying for race 25 and in the top 10 shootout (and then replaced prior to the warm up for race 25), was examined by Supercars technical personnel and the valve lift in a number of cylinders was found to have exceeded the maximum permitted valve lift prescribed by the ESD for car #17," the stewards report stated. While officials stated the breach was not deliberate, as the engine did contravene the regulation, McLaughlin and Premat have been disqualified from Bathurst qualifying and the shootout. That means McLaughlin's 2:03.3783 lap record no longer stands.

Having driven the circuit in a road car, it is a total shock how steep it is and how tight corners like the Cutting and The Dipper are and how steep Conrod is mindblowing. Staying on my side of the road through the dipper, the first time through I cocked it up at 25mph. Very tricky turns & the banked turns are challenging & at hitting 150kph through turns & hitting 180kph along the Conrod Straight is amazing. There was an Anniversary Special after 40 years & you see normal touring cars with tyres changed with wheel braces, fuel added with fuel cans, pit crews rebuilding cars in pits, cars driving without windscreens (Peter Brock did once), Kangaroos jumping on the track & the compulsory rain storm LOL. 1,000kms or 600 miles of hard driving & thrills / spills.

This is the true last Ford Falcon sedan (FG XR8) produced in Australia in late 2016. The American made Mustang isn't as good as the Falcon. Ford Falcons and Holden Commodore were unbeatable. Scotty MaLachlan is a master driver and I miss the street production cars racing especially on Mt. Panorama. Australian quality made vehicles. Can't beat then.

Bathurst is a great place and race for sure. And you're right, the TV coverage of this event is awesome.

This guy is racing in America, he was by far the best driver here in Australia and kept ford at the pointy end winning nearly everything. Proof of how good he is ford aren't anywhere near as dominant since he left.

The early races were on a vastly different track: rough, narrow, very few barriers, barely even a fence over skyline, and no kink in conrod straight (just a deadly hump when cars got too fast)

Great lap by Scotty and Brocky will always be the king of the mountain. My favourite lap to watch was Greg Murphy’s lap of the gods.

At bathurst there is no room for error. In 2015 or 2016 Chaz mostert (a supercar driver) with down the mountain and clipped the wall and broke his left leg by hitting the gear stick.

They are absolutely production cars. They rip the guts out of them, put in a cage based on the weight removed but if you have got enough cash, they produce that for you based on road specs. A mate of mine, Michael Massi, was race director for a time. I worked around Indy when it was here.

They are no way production cars. I camped in the pits back in the 80s, in the FIA Group A days, and they were barely production cars then - at least based on a production shell, engine block, etc. V8 Supercars are a generic tube chassis, standardised brakes, probably transmission and differential (Harrop?) - pretty much the same for all cars - with panels hung on to make them look look like road cars, whether Holden, Nissan, Volvo, Ford, all irrelevant.

@@anthonyhealey3351 I am fully aware of your point. To race the cars the manufacturer had to make a large limited number of them. I believe Ford cheated to get the car qualified by moving cars from one inspection point to another. Seriously, wouldn't you like to drive around the streets in one of them. Doesn't matter which team or manufacturers either. Fuel would be expensive though and I am positive the cops would pull me up every time I fired her up and I grew up on the Goldie with car hoons apparently

He near lost it in the dirt at the top of the mountain, then locked up heading into the dipper (or was it the esses?) and still hit the line half a second in front of everyone else. One can only wonder what the time would have been if he'd nailed the top of the hill.

I was there when this happened! Love your channel mate, gives me goosebumps watching this again. If you want some personal videos of the race let me know and I can send them through from Raceday.

Bathurst it is not a race track but a converted road for the race. That Ford engine is a 302 V8 producing around 650hp and is limited to 7,500 rpm

I loved Bathurst in the old days , all the different classes .... the Minis flew at the top of the mountain , and the GTHO was so brilliant to watch when Conrad was straight all the way .

Great respect to you mate i live in Perth Western Australia and not to far away from Peter Brock's crash site. Every year our car club West Coast Commodores has a charity run from Midland up the hills and then stop at Guilford for a day of checking out cars ect this year we raised a tidy sum all of which went to Telethon ( its a charity for sick kids) one person donated $10,000 just thought i would put this out there as i have seen a few of your videos and Brocky was a true champion.
