Thank you for these great recommendations. I don't think anyone should be wasting money on a teacher who's just giving "chat sessions". First of all, these can be done for free with a conversation partner, or for half the price with a "community tutor" (since you're talking about italki here... but that would work with any similar platform). Then, yes, a good teacher should help his students with what's most difficult for them to work on by themselves. I'm shocked by some teachers' videos out there on youtube where you can see them "teaching" the alphabet, greetings or the days of the week. I really believe italki shouldn't endorse such videos if they want to promote quality teaching. In general, the students should asses their courses with the following criteria: - did I speak most of the lesson time? - have I practised something I still find somewhat difficult? - could have I done the same with a youtube video or a random speaker of the language? - do I know what I could study before the next course? This is not all of it, but this could seriously separate some chaff from the wheat already. I have taught French for more than 500 hours on italki and I've really heard the worst story about what's done during some online courses. So, for the credibility of the whole platform, I really hope that your podcast starts raising students' expectations for their online teachers.

This is great. I'm going to share this out to my viewers/followers. I want my students to "keep me honest" and get the most of their lessons.
