Guns N Roses's success was because of all five members working collectively as a cohesive unit. Izzy was not the sole songwriter for the band. Yes, he played a big part in GNR and is often referred to as the heart and soul of the band. However, Slash wrote the main riffs to many of the Appetite for Destructions songs. Axl provided a lot of lyrics, and Duff and Steven provided the foundation. Each member of the band was a part of the magic.

ohinek007 Duff and Izzy have proven since Guns that they don't need added 'juice' to write great songs. You only need to listen to Slash's solo albums to see he needs songwriters like them for him to thrive. Id say Izzy was actually too straightforward for the band. He wanted to play rock n' roll to small audiences, and he wanted things to be fair, with a minimum of fuss and bullshit. He likely did not care for Axl's lengthy ballads, huge arenas full of people, the backing musicians and piano, and he certainly didn't care for Axl's temper tantrums and chronic inability to start a show on time, or his walking off after a few songs because he was in a bad mood.

Some would say "Izzy" was the forgotten Gunner, but we musicians have always recognized him in every song, and missed him when he left. ...Speaking of replacements, did anyone ever have the feeling that Gilbey Clarke was kind of tethered, almost leashed, when they toured in the early 90's? It seemed like everyone else was free to run around on stage, but Gilbey just had to stand in his 6x6 area, and couldn't move that much, and really be part of the show. If you watch the old shows, maybe you'll notice what I'm trying to say. I kinda felt bad for the guy.
@mozzeb9 жыл бұрын
That probably was because Axl hated Gilbey's guts and he told him "you stay right the fuck there or you're out."

@bigdickenergysince1776 Жыл бұрын
