so glad y’all reacted to this. it’s hard to overstate how crazy it is someone on J Cole’s level gave a song to a producer on KZbin as a token of appreciation. “J Cole so humble” is such a meme but it’s so true, this is the literal perfect example.

I tatted the crown from Born Sinner’s cover when I was 16 because even though rap is by far not my favourite genre, at the time I had already related to so many of Cole’s messages and they spoke to me in so many levels that I thought it would never lose that meaning to me. Now 5 years later it brings me so much joy to see how far he’s come, to see that he’s still so humble, and such an awesome role model. I’ve learned so much from his music, how he talks about his mother, to appreciating life more after listening to 4yeo, it just makes me happy for the dude that he’s so genuine, and that to this day I can still reflect on life after listening to his tracks.

Healing can be found in the most random of places... When you spoke on acceptance as a virtue, and taking accountability for your circumstances - if not, that's a fault on your character. Im 32, happily married, have a beautiful little girl but i'm also a disabled combat veteran. I dont want to go through the details, because im not sure anyone cares but, what you said spoke to me on a very spiritual level. For the longest time I have been blaming others for the circumstances in which i find myself - full of hate, anger... hopelessness. Being injuring in Afghanistan, losing my friends, the aftermath of returning to "normal" life after... at a certain point I gotta stop pointing the finger and hold myself accountable for the circumstances i'm in... I dont know how to articulate this, and its a random youtube comment but, holy shit am i a subscriber for life now. Much love. Much respect.

You missinterpreted this track. It is NOT one of those usual "go get yo bread and hustle" songs. It is a record about how he struggles with getting too comfortable through all the success and money he earned over the past years, simultaneoulsy looking back to when he was broke and much more hungry to spit on a track and give his all. That´s why I love this song so much. It showcases human imperfection, vulnerability and that no matter how much success you have had, there will always be some kind of struggle. It is deeply personal and J. cole is one of the very few who is reflected enough to release such a track in collaboration with one of those youtube beat makers, who in contrast, are often still struggling for reach and income, thereby representing his younger self. Of course procrastination is a leading factor why people stay "broke" or unhappy. However, it is something human and also concerns the ones we thought never to have had such problems because their at the top. But that´s just my interpretation and you probably won´t see it. bye.
