A rare collection of Jay Dee beats from as early as 1995. You'll notice that some of these ended up on "The 1997 Batch". Support jdillafoundation.org & Vintage Vibez Music Group
There is an interview with Illa J by Chuck Chilla where Illa J spoke on the Yancey Boys album and that the beats on it came from '95-'98, this may be that batch in some form. He also said the CD had 38 tracks and that's how many beats are on this if you don't count the alternate tape transfers. Zero EQ or noise reduction was done, all I did was remove gaps and make the cover art. Happy Dilla month!

This happens often, people mistaking the production of a producer for another, this happens a lot with Madlib mixtapes, they throw in Kankick beats into the mix by mistake, the 90's versions of Kankick and Madlib do sound similar at times using similar snares, but Kankick does have his own original sound

I make LoFi beats myself but comparing them to Dilla is like comparing modern rock bands to Zeppelin or the Beatles. The greats were all on another level musically. Jay Dee is the master.
@McSquirts
@McSquirts Жыл бұрын
@@bigmacattack7747 Dilla is the guy who invented these types of beats. Lo-fi is one way or another directly derived from Jay Dee or Nujabes. idk when the term lo-fi was termed (I first heard the term used loosely in 2015) but Jay dee never called it lo-fi.

@@nathanieltyghe4526 Yes the tape is not the best quality but he did love cassette hiss/vinyl crackle and would program it on beats, Questlove talks about it in this interview kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3Tbh615mpeBZ7s , an example of how he would deliberately lower the quality of his beats but makes it sound great. And he definitely was a pioneer (among many things) of making beat tapes full of laidback slower tempo beats that sound lo-fi and hi-fi at the same time.

I was there for it. Hip-hop from the late 80’s to the early 90’s was the shit. After that, it was all about the underground stuff like Del the Funky Homosapien, Hieroglyphics, Spul of Mischief, into the late 90’s stuff with Mos Def and others. The 70@: was the peak of music, movies and culture. The 90’s was the last good decade. The internet fucked all of that up
