J.J. & Jeff for the TurboGrafx-16 | Turbo Time Vol 4

JJ and Jeff is a highly divisive game for the TG-16. Indeed, most people who have played it tend to hate it. The game is very difficult, with deliberately slippery controls, graphic sprites of things like turdy birds, sewer dinosaurs, and of course the main protagonists look like a couple of business guys in boring suits.
Lots of videos have been made over the years explaining that JJ and Jeff is a westernized reskin of a game called Kato Chan and Ken Chan (the doki doki panic of the TG-16), but this only partly explains why the game is so….odd. Indeed, it is in light of the Kato and Ken TV show that we finally realize what in the heck is actually going on in this game…..its a parody. It’s a parody of video games itself.
And once you realize that, well, you won’t necessarily like playing this more than you once did….but hopefully, at the very least, you can appreciate it for what it actually is: A pretty great joke.

Wow, super fun video and very articulate with the reviewing of JJ & Jeff. I think the closing opinion that the game is meant to be a parody of bad games is spot on. For a future Turbo Time game, hmm... How about The Legendary Axe? Or maybe Dungeon Explorer. Talk about the 5 player mode.

Id love to do those games too. I want to a bunch of them in the future. Legendary Axe is perfect because it’s probably the most iconic launch game other than keith courage. It really should have been the pack in game instead.

Love this game. Just slap on the turbo for auto-kick and slide around on one foot. There's a pattern for the slot machine that hits extra lives semi often. I don't even play this game anymore, I perform it.

It is a super weird game, but the attempt to localize it makes it even weirder because everything comes together in such a random fashion. The Japanese TV show apparently was a pretty big deal in its time but I’ve never had the chance to actually watch an entire episode. Essentially the whole game IS a big inside joke. I think my daughter is right in saying the intention of the game was to parody videogames….so many things that happen are basically done to troll the player and mock the platforming genre. In that light it’s great! Thanks for watching dude! 😎

I really like playing this game too. I think it looked pretty good in 1989/1990 or so…..but indeed, all that matters is how fun it is to play. It’s rough in areas, and a bit wonky, but I love it. Thanks for watching dude! 😎

My sister showed my brother and I this game as a joke when we were kids. I tried giving it a chance, but I just don't like it. In the later levels, I noticed the birds can sometimes hurt you when you jump on top of them wth.

That's one of the least valuable games on the turbo graphics system never played it. By get a decent emulator I'd probably try it. Your video was ridiculous and funny not as always.
