New York 1971 - Public Talk 4 - Can the mind become quiet?
Summary:
A mind that is inquiring into the question of religion must be free entirely of any form of belief or fear.
In the very inquiry into disorder, there is order.
The mind has to find out whether the brain cells which have developed through millennia in knowledge can be totally quiet, and respond to a dimension it does not know.
Meditation is the emptying of the mind of will.
Q: If one can have the privilege of becoming aware, how can one then help those who are conditioned, to become receptive and aware?
Q: What is the relationship between consciousness and seeing things exactly as they are?
Q: Could you talk about psychological time?
Note: a total of 3 minutes and 7 seconds of missing video is replaced by audio only.

This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

" In that still mind there is a movement which is totally different, of a different dimension of a different quality. That can never be put into words, because that is indescribable. But what can be described is up to this point, to the point when you have laid the foundation and see the necessity, the truth and the beauty of a still mind".

Sounds like that mind isn't actually empty. It's got images of itself and the other and it feels entitled to silence. Dissolve the separation and realize you are the same as the source of your turmoil, and insight will pop up, and love will flow!

@33:11 "and order is surely virtue... Because it is in the nature of the mind to learn and make any kind of order." Well, that seems innocent enough.. But then he proceeds to talk about a disorderly mind. That follows, imitates. But that too is in the nature of the mind. It is like telling an ant not following pheromones is virtuous. Why would you? Following is not a bad thing in itself. If everyone spoke a different language, there wouldn´t be much point. "..a mind that is in conflict is disorderly,... and has no virtue" There can´t be anything wrong with following, imitating, being confused and creative. It works.. I´d say the mind has no option, but to learn, make, get things wrong and therefore no option but to be virtuous or true to its nature. How could it not? Anything it does is what it is. It´s the second guessing of this that leads to internal conflict. The not trusting of our own minds. Trying to make rules of how others should behave, because you do not trust yourself. What if the way the world is now is just how it is supposed to be? And what if the fact that you don´t think so is too? And that it is ok, to be angry about it, or do something about it. Or not.. It is all ok. If we were never dissatisfied, we wouldn´t do stuff. So why is dissatisfaction bad? And if we didn´t do the things, no matter how silly, how would we be ready when disaster strikes? Animals play, when there is no danger. All this nonsense of culture, history, self improvement, religion, invention, politics.. it´s just our play, which is frivolous, but virtuous. WIth the atom bombs ready to destroy most life, any conflict is like kittens play-fighting, looking ferocious with claws out, but never breaking the skin. It´s an act. That sometimes kills, but not all and we could do that easily.. He flips and flops from a deep philosopher telling us to accept what is there to a little, tired man, that projects his personal dislikes upon the world. Sometimes in the same sentence. @37:33 "nowadays, when there is permissiveness of any kind.." It´s like reading Seneca. Also a stoic man who would say profound things about accepting things with grace, only to bitch about "young people today" in the next verse. This desperate need to change the world is of all ages. So how can it be bad? It has lead to much suffering, so how can that be bad? Maybe we should suffer. How do we know it is not the secret of humanity´s succes? How do we even know if we are a succes? Maybe we are a plague and should be irradicated. Or maybe all is as it should be.. Is there any other standpoint that makes the slightest sense?

You’re logical and analytical left brain is having a hard time… totally normal. Listening to K isn’t the answer… it’s discovering for yourself the truth (or lack thereof) of what he’s saying. Honestly, your rant was so wrapped up in thought, ideals, feelings, and words that I feel like you either didn’t watch the first 3 lectures of the series or this all is just going way over your head. Either way, figure it out for yourself. I mean, if you have it figured out already, awesome. But you clearly don’t.
