They truly are the mos.t beautiful creatures on the earth. I'm so glad Japan keeps this tradition. It's exquisite. Are they introducing a new Geisha to the tea houses?
@moushimou3170 Жыл бұрын
This was from a long time ago, but this is during Shigeyoshiki, first year greetings. The maiko and geiko go around to the different okiya, ochaya, and other businesses to thank them for the support the previous year and to ask for continued support this year ^^ After the greetings are done, they go to the theater where awards are given out from the previous year's efforts ^^

Ookini, Anna. I was waiting for this. You made my day. I love watching the Toshi army of Komaya as it smilingly snakes its way through the streets, in and out of the ochaya, while always managing to stay in the proper order. Thanks also for the shots of Miehina, a rare treat. Another awesome job. I'm looking forward to your video of Hatsuyori in GK.

so beautiful! I'm wondering if there's a way to identify which district a geiko is from, like you can with the maiko's obi?
@j.l18484 жыл бұрын
I believe geiko do not hold any symbol for the house they work with because they are not working 'under' any of the house but only be there as another option of freelancer because they can choose to work in any house or personally. So it is not the time to promote the house but they themselves are the one to be promoted which the guest should look for them instead of the house as they can change house as often as they are capable. While maiko is more like a full time student who have contract with the house owner. Maiko's all usage including clothing, food and training are paid by the house owner but for geiko, they mostlikely stay outside and pay for their own clothing and accessories as well. Even if that is provided by the house it will be under the negotiate between the geiko and house owner regarding the salary. Maiko only receive pocket-money-like salary which will not increase or negotiable no matter how much money they bring in.

This is a really good question, and I sort of have an answer. I've asked credible people over the years who've met maiko and geiko at banquets and they've all said that geiko and maiko all smell really nice- one specifically said that a maiko they met personally had an aroma similar to "sweetpea" It may not be a perfume spray but they certainly are clean and take care of themselves. Also, during these banquets typically incense is burned so you'll be smelling that as well.

Before the lost decades thing, there are always concerns about Japanese women losing interest in geisha but not anymore. Recent economic stagnation & no real wage growth made a geisha a secure kind of job.

@@Oshidorinohina ⌛They changed the laws and the rules the geishas must follow many times as a result, it is not a prostitution but current geisha entertaining traditional art. This is vastly different than Edo Yoshiwara in Tokyo where the real courtesans and the top is Oiran who were sold as a child to pay the family debts. Oiran not only she paid her debts but she is so expensive no ordinary man can approach her. Number of the girls in this Yoshiwara suffered from the syphilis before its demise in fire.
