This Yokai Parade brought back the memory of a scene in Studio Ghibli's 1994 movie _Pom Poko (平成狸合戦)_ . The habitat of a group of _Tanuki_ were threatened by a gigantic suburban development project. In an effort to remind the town people to respect and protect the environment, the _Tanuki_ stage a massive ghost parade to make people think that the town is haunted by spirits who are angered by the development project. The effort fails when a theme park takes credit for the parade, claiming that it was a publicity stunt. In _Pom Poko_ , ghost parade was associated with the emotion of fear. However, these frightening creatures are also often portrayed as playful, relatable, and even cute. The experiences of fear can also be fun and amusing. Perhaps, the most important point is that the history of Yokai is no more and no less than the history of people who tell the stories, collect them, and play with them. Without people, Yokai could not exist. And the opposite is true as well. Yokai is popular in both traditional and modern Japanese culture, because it teaches people about themselves. Thanks for sharing the video! 👍
Thank you for posting this. Nobody has posted this year about YOKAI FESTIVAL... This was such a great video and experience. Hope you can understand this.
I love Japanese folklore so much. I was in Kyoto for two weeks, but I couldn't attend it. I will for sure attend it another time. I think this festival happens twice a year. I love it so much

@京都よきかな Thank you for sharing! Where my family is from, we have Vejigante festivals w/ participants dressed as lesser spirits called Cemi - the fests are for St. James but the costume part is thanks to the Taino and their spirits. I always wonder "what if Cemi met Yokai", and know they'd revel in Hardcore Mode. ;)
