Lead Singer name - Suzuka Nakamoto (she is 27 now). Born 20 dec 1997. Singer since 2007. U can find her videos before Babymetal. (from 2007 to 2010). She studied vocals at the Hiroshima Acting School. Before Babymetal, she sang in theater musicals, sang songs for anime, and was a vocalist in the J-pop group Karen Girls. From 2010 she is Lead Vocalist of Babtymetal. She was also a child model at the age of 5 and appeared in commercials. Almost her entire life has been connected with show business. Her older sister is also a singer and sang in a J-pop group. She admitted that she dreamed of becoming a singer since early childhood, and always persistently went towards this goal. She also said in an interview that she cannot imagine life without singing, and singing is her whole life. You can say that she is a fan of singing, and sincerely loves doing it.

I was lucky to see BABYMETAL in my hometown of Toronto last year in 2023. It was a windy day in a small outdoor venue. No bells and whistles like the big Japanese venues, but I was at the barricade, less than 10 feet from Moa (mostly stage right). It was one of the greatest times I ever experienced. There I was, 57 year old bearded man jumping and singing with tears on my face, metalhead since the 80s, going hard with men, women, and people of all ages from about 10 to 70. I was torally exhausted at the end of show and couldn't have been happier. My favourite BABYMETAL songs are From Dusk Til Dawn (Budokan 2021 Live) Monochrome (PIA Arena 2023 Live) 🤘🦊🤘

You have goosebumps because...it's Babymetal! It just happens. Great reaction and great performance to react to. Babymetal is virtually always best to react to live. Since their early days they have always had a special bond with their audiences. For years Babymetal has had to put up with the "it's just a gimmick" "it's a fad". You don't fill arena's and just finish your seventh successful world tour if you're a gimmick or a fad. I loved your comment that this was more than a concert that it was performance art. But whatever you call it. The lead vocalist has one of the most amazing voices ever. And she goes by many names Suzuka Nakamoto, Su, Queen Su, Sumetal or just the Queen. Her two-as I like to call them wing ladies- we're from L-R Momo or Momometal and Moa or Moametal. Both Moa and Momo have great voices too. But there main job is crowd control, backing vocals and choreo. Babymetal are legendary for their live performances-as you've seen here so going live with future reactions is a sure bet. The "Gimme Chocolate" video you mentioned has over 200,000,000 million views and it's very high WTF factor both put them on the radar of western listeners. But unfortunately was just too different for a lot of western listeners. Who have never gone back to see just how amazing this group is. They are truly like no other. And yes this is an older song about essentially who women are and how they are perceived. The original video for this came out I believe in 2013. You've got my sub and I loved your reaction. To see just how epic Babymetal are I'd like suggest a performance that has become iconic from 2023 "Monochrmoe live PIA Arena" I'll include the link and look forward hopefully for more Babymetal reactions: Monochrome: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnK9lnWjZdRqgNE

Good reaction. 'Megitsune' is one of their older songs, released in 2013 (it pre-dates Gimme Chocolate) and the first song after they separated from their parent group to become an independent band, it has regularly topped fan polls for favourite song - they have also played it live more than any of their songs. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being mistaken for or likened to foxes (kitsune - which also explains the fox mask Su was behind in the breakdown🦊) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive shape-shifting kitsune (foxes), they are human megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The intro before the song and the breakdown in the middle of the song uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su spoke a few words and did a high kick she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. They have played a couple of concerts over the years with an all-female audience (Red Mass and Red Fox Festival) and you can imagine how well this song went at those.🦊

Awesome reaction! I just saw them a month ago in DC, and yeah, this song goes hard! This was Babymetal’s 5th song in 2013, and their first single as an independent band (Originally sub-unit of an Idol group). *Lore:* “Kitsunes”(Foxes), are Babymetal’s thing. The “God of Metal”, the FOX GOD summoned Babymetal to infiltrate J-Pop to fuse it with Metal to fight against the evil Idol industry. *Song’s Meaning:* Megitsune (Female Fox), can be a derogatory term to label women as deceptive/conniving. Babymetal dispels this and says that girls are always actress. Society expects them to “smile at face” while they “cry in heart”. However, the meaning of an “ideal woman” is now changing with the march of time. Babymetal tells all the girls to be themselves and “shoot up their fireworks”. *Lead Vocalist:* Suzuka Nakamoto, stage name “Su-metal”. She just turned 27 yesterday! I’m the opposite of what you said in the intro: I DO NOT like pop, and I love heavy music. But Babymetal blends it so well that they are now my favorite band. Also, while Gimme Chocolate is by design a “gimmicky”, playful, and fun song, Babymetal can get pretty heavy, somber, and epic too. Suggestions: _Don’t like it too heavy?_ *Monochrome (Pia Arena MM):* Melodic and heartfelt with some heavy elements. _Dragonforce?_ *Road of Resistance (Pia Arena MM):* Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce did the guitars of the studio recording of this song. _Want more of Su-metal’s epic vocals?_ *Akatsuki (Budokan 2014):* See how incredible she already was at 16 for her solo. 🤘🦊

🍑 ⚡ 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ 'Megitsune' was the second song in a fifteen song set. The opener was 'BABYMETAL Death', which is their usual introduction. It's funny how often people guess that a BABYMETAL song must be the opening or closing number, based on the crowd interaction. 'Megitsune' is often placed about halfway through their concerts. In my mind this is quintessential BABYMETAL. No one writes Electronicore-Festival-Kawaii-Enka Metal songs like that anymore. : ) Still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. Su-metal likes to think of this song as expressing the Japanese character of facing adversity with resilience. A person might feel sad or overwhelmed, but they put on a brave face and carry on. She has talked about how adult women are so cool as they never show suffering, by acting quite as usual even in a hard time, and she hopes to be like that as well.

Nice one, thanks! "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 382 times... and counting! It was released in June 2013 being one of their biggest hits. And yes, it's one of my very TOP favorite songs. The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown. It was composed by Norikazu Nakayama (aka Norimetal). He's involved in some form in almost all my favorite BABYMETAL songs. And that can't be a coincidence. It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is a masterpiece. About the lyrics, the word "megitsune" is composed by "me" + "kitsune" meaning female + fox so, vixen. In Japanese folklore, the "kitsune" is an entity capable to transfigure into a human form (mainly into a young lady) with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So, they sing that they aren't "kitsunes" but "megitsunes", "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes", as the lyrics say. It's basically a women empowerment song. BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. And yes, they do the "fox sign" (instead of the devil's horns) all the time. 🤘🦊

Megitsune is BM's most representative song, incorporating traditional J-instruments &, most aesthetically, full of references to J-folklore (kitsunes/foxes & megitsune/vixens as deceitful creatures); J-culture (women as restrained & inscrutable); J-onomatopoeia ('chiki chiki' = clothes flapping, 'hira hira' = wings fluttering, 'kuru kuru' = spinning around, 'kon kon kon' = foxes barking; 'so-re' = there's this; 'wasshoi' = heave ho); even a famous J-movie catchphrase ('na-me tara i kanzeyo' = don't underestimate me, from 1982's yakuza flick Onimasa). The MV plot is interpreted as Su-metal lamenting that she's still periodically human inside her, even as those around her (Moametal & Yuimetal gleefully prancing around) have fully transformed into megitsunes. At other times, she is depicted as having succumbed (dancing along, menacingly unsheathing her hidden microphone dagger). The lyrics are supposed to be melancholic (women as misunderstood; Su singing it in enka's traditionally melodramatic style), but the music (metal + J-electronicore/pikorimo ピコリーモ/synths) is so goddamn festive & crowd-involving (other BM song examples would be Headbanger, Pa Pa Ya, Metali, Ratatata) that its euphoric live versions have been a celebration of (female) empowerment. Megitsune is also BM's most-performed song (Gimme Chocolate remains their biggest hit) & most-covered by other musicians.

Some people have no idea what the terminology is on KZbin, I think it's especially 1 person in the comments who uses the wrong, but scary term. Babymetal is from Japan, it's a bigger company (they are slower to adopt sharing helps spread it, it's free PR), they don't copyright strike normally, it's very uncommon. That would be very harsh. They block things at times. Blocking is annoying, but a copyright strike would be dangerous. Thanks for this reaction, you get some idea of what Babymetal (live) is like. Yokohama Arena is 10 000 people, they performed there for this special occasion, Babymetal most often performed at Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, which is 20 000. But they've also in 2016 performed at Tokyo Dome, which is 55 000 people. Funny thing happened when they performed there, at the start of the year, they would know they would perform there, a huge venue, huge deal in Japan (and they were still in their high teens, 17, 17 and 18 years old), they felt they were not ready. But it was the closer of their 3rd world tour and they performed at huge music/rock/metal festivals on the main stage, maybe to as much as 90 000 people and by the end of the tour they performed at Tokyo Dome twice in a row, sold out, it felt smaller than they had expected. 🙂 Tokyo Dome show they had the biggest budget and wanted to do something special, so they had the huge stage, etc. but also played all the songs of the first two albums, no song was repeated, so the two days was basically 1 big show. So yeah, they are used to performing large audiences, that said, they also still perform in front of a few 1000 people regularly. I don't know of recent tours, but smallest venue in 2020 was 500 people.

Nice reaction. One thing about Babymetal, their songs really varies in terms of genre. Since you're more of the J-rock persuasion suggestion is to listen to Kageru (the lastest one). One of my favorites and always gives me a hard rock vibe. Eventually if your going down the Babymetal foxhole your should take a look at the Extensive Guide to Babymetal (the 2024 or latest one) which will give you their origins, lore and lots of interesting tidbits.

you need to watch their live stuff, way better than MVs, especially when they performed with Eastern Kami Band, it was golden time!

Cool react! I'm not a huge fan of metal myself but from Babymetal I love "Headbanger" ("The Live Legend 1997 Apocalypse" or the "Moa Version" are awesome) and "Onedari Daisakusen" (at Budokan).

@@J-ROCKMD I would suggest Legend 43 2024 verison of Headbanger for a recent performance of it.
Am i wrong to say they sound like Dragonforce? Yes. Yes you are. Is that the only metal band you've heard? But they do sometimes sound like Dragonforce. Arkadia and Road of Resistance. But not usually. I don't like Dragonforce. Arkadia and RoR aren't in my playlist.

I would say some of the metal elements sound like Dragonforce definitely (not a bad thing.) Additionally, I can hear Metallica, Iron Maiden and even a little X JAPAN influences.

Dragon Force? Not in this song, thiscis Road of Resistance, thats their default closer.

I got hints of Dragonforce, Metallica and X-Japan

Great reaction! Great choice of the song, btw, it´s a staple song. They perform it on every concert they do. Almost 400 times now, and counting 😄 It´s always on the top of request lists and fan polls. Is there any other BABYMETAL song you have to listen to? There are ~70 songs for you to listen to, countless live performances and MV´s. The Foxhole is very deep 😉 The "Legend MM" concert was quite a special one, it was Momometal´s birthday celebration, she´s the one (mostly) on the left side. If you wanna see a really wild crowd and a frikkin´ awesome performance, react to - Headbanger (Momoko ver.) (Legend MM 2024 Live) Eng Subs next. Don´t worry, there´s still a lot of Su-Metal there! Or try - Road Of Resistance (PIA Arena 2023 Live) Eng Subs to get some more Dragonforce vibes 😉

6:31 you're not completely wrong, it's just a different song you are looking for. No joking, Herman Li and Sam Totman from Dragonforce wrote the guitar parts for that Babymetal song and even recorded the guitar parts in the album version. Here's the official live video if you want to check it out kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIWoioh8nLGpm7ssi=OYteHUDgYdDqzNgO

@@FlavioPeiro Wow, thanks for that! My metal knowledge is limited to 80’s heavy metal so when I hear BABYMETAL, all I can relate them too are those heavy bands I’ve heard in Guitar Hero (aka Dragonforce.) 😂 Hope I can check out this one soon! 🤘🏻🦊

Good reaction. To understand Babymetal the first thing you have to know is that they are not a heavy metal group. They are a group of heavy metal idols. Their music, their attitude and their way of communicating with the public is that of idols.

Welcome to the wonderful foxhole, no worries, it’s a cozy place. Whilst Babymetal music videos are all well produced, live is where they really shine. I still would suggest watching them, since they usually explain the story of the song better than the live performance. Babymetal, as others have said, is Su-metal, Moametal, and Momometal (previously Yuimetal, who retired officially in 2018). They are active since 2010, when they were 10/12 years old and had to fight a lot of pushback from hardcore metal fans but as you can see, they managed all that with professionalism, passion, tears and sweat and are still going strong in 2024. I was lucky enough to be in the crowd at the Legend MM shows (2 nights to celebrate Momometals 21st birthday) and it was an incredible experience. My favourite Babymetal song is the one I am listening to but I would suggest checking out “Monochrome” (any live version is ok), “Rondo of Nightmare” (live at Budokan 2014), and last but certainly not least “From Dusk Till Dawn” live at Budokan 2021. See you! 🤘🦊🔥
