I was 6 in 1969 and being from Harlem, it was the 1st time I saw myself and my neighborhood on TV. This was a time a lot of us thought WE were the generation that would change everything. This is a sad story, but seeing this reminds me of the hope a lot of us had for a better world during that era. I'm old now, and it doesn't look like I'll live to see that day dawn upon this world, but maybe my grandchildren or their children will. Bless you all the same for posting this. I was able to transport back however briefly, to remember that hope. Thank you.

I saw this in first grade and the boy giving the cat tuna made such an impact on me. I never knew the name of the movie but never forgot the image of him taking tuna to a homeless cat. Tonight I decided to Google '80's movie with boy feeding cat tuna' and I FINALLY found this. I was so excited to watch this again as an adult. I always remembered the boy caring for the cat but did not remember what happened to it. NGL, I cried. I love J.T.'s character and his kind spirit and kindness towards animals really made an impact on me as a child. Thanks to this channel for putting it on here.♥️

Actually, it wasn't part of the Children's Film Festival. That's a common misconception. It was shown on the CBS Children’s Hour, which was a different program that occasionally pre-empted the Monkees at 12:00, which might be followed by the Film Festival at 1 p.m. The difference is that the Film Festival focused on kids' films of foreign origin, while the Children's Hour had films specifically produced in the US for CBS. The Hour only lasted a season from 1969-70 because those films were too expensive to keep making for a young audience.

I read this book when I was a little kid and it meant everything to me. The way the writer brought you into J.T.'s mind, his pain, loneliness and confusion. But JT learned that when we care and love a nonhuman animal that needs our care, we receive the unconditional love rarely found in humans.

I haven't seen this in over fifty years. It had been so long that I had forgotten a lot of it. I remember him having the cat in an oven and I remember the cat getting ran over. I had been thinking about it lately and wanted to see it again but I did not remember the name of this program or any of the actors in it. I thought about googling it but I did not know where to start. I was also afraid to google it because I didn't think that I would be able to find it. I took a chance and googled "1970's tv christmas movies a black kid finds a cat" and it came right up. I was surprised of finding it that fast, but once I thought about it a movie about a black kid during that time would have been very rare. And for it to be on television during that time it had to have been special. I'm glad I found it. Once I started watching it again I started to remember more and more. This was a well done movie without being trite. They should make it a annual Christmas time special like A Christmas Story.

I have been looking for this movie everywhere and here it is on KZbin! I kept thinking it was called T.C.S Christmas for some reason. I saw this when I was a young teen about 13 years old and loved it so much and have always remembered it as such a warm touching movie it was and sad also. I'm so glad I have finally found it again...

I saw this when I was 8 years old when it first came out. We had a tv in a cabinet with legs. You had to go and change the channel yourself. There were 6 tv stations and it was a few years before cable came out. I remember this coming out right before Christmas break. I always cry. The music was as sad as the atmosphere, though I know it wasn't like that when it first aired on CBS. It is too bad that they don't make shows like this one snymore.

I often wondered if this movie was still around. Like so many others, I saw it when it came out. I just caught it, and from the very beginning, too. Some movies just stick with you and you never forget it. This was one. So glad someone posted this. It will DEFINITELY be on he Holiday roster [ as number 1] this coming season. 📻🙂👍👍👍👍👍

I watched this movie on TV when I was in 3rd grade, 1970 or so. I was inconsolable for days afterward. My parents were not with me when I saw it, couldn't figure out why I was upset. It must have had a lasting impact, I've had at least two cats my entire adult life.

This movie, which I saw the first time it aired in 1969 gave me a life long quote that I use every once in a bit for no good reason: "I want me this cat I found".

My sentiment is that the movies of yesterday exactly like this one teleports me to a time that though we've always been through hard times we ended up with a very good day that made up for everything we went through!!! Soulful I just love it I've watched it over and over again since I found it on here!

the beginning of this movie reminds me of the beginning of "Moonlight". Loved that movie! Deserved the Academy award for best pic. This movie and "Moonlight" are poetry in motion. Amazing how those two movies look different. Technology? Love this.

The cat reminds me of a stray who followed me home when I had an apartment near Yankee Stadium. I took the cat in and he shut down the mice who were dominating my kitchen. He found their source, a hole near the stove, and I sealed it. He also ruined a few hot dates I had because he had caught a few mice, nibbled on them, and then brought them into my living room or bedroom! You can imagine the terrified look in the young ladies I dated!
