i grew up a jehovas witness, mom got disfellowshipped as well. about the same thing as ja. im not practicing now but let me say it is not the same thing as being a catholic. i respect the religion so much more than any other religion. simply because the people are amazingly nice, they build their "churches" with the help of the community, you never have to pay anything to be apart of it, if you want to be there you are welcome and that is it

I feel the same way and I went through the same situation. Being one of Jehovah's Witnesses isn't bad if you have enough discipline to live under those high standards. I remember going to the Kingdom Hall as a child and I didn't like going either, but what the Witnesses teach makes a lot of sense and they are genuinely kind people.

As a kid I didn't understand why when people went to talk to her she would tell them that she was disfellowshipped they would leave until one day coming back from the kingdom hall I asked her. I love the people and what they stand for, it a great religion even though I'm focused on basketball I still study the bible with my bible study teacher because I might want to get baptized.

That's the misconception people have. As Christian's we are not bound by rules, you can try to keep all the rules and guidelines you want, even if you do you still will not get into heaven. Just because you follow rules does not mean you have a relationship with God. The Bible says rules and laws are set as guidelines, its like looking into a mirror. The mirror will show you that your face is dirty, but the mirror cant clean your face for you. You have to go to something other then the mirror to clean your face. For Christians that other is Jesus Christ. And once you know Jesus, the rules that you fight and struggle not to break, you no longer want to break them anyway. Christians are set free apart from the law. While other religions are very strict and thats why people turn away from them.

Nick Lee believing in a higher power at least (cant really say the same for after life) comes from just listening to ur inner self. its what spirituality represents. it doesnt matter what religion u practice, EVERYONE has an inner sense of something above themselves. some stop at the conscious, whereas others feel its something more. most everyone can agree that there is a spiritual realm that each of our souls has access to. we as humans just have a nature of labeling things so we can know exactly what it is we are accessing. that where religion comes in. we give this realm a god who rules it, and rules we feel this god would like us to follow to gain an extensive membership to this realm promising us greater understanding and wisdom, as well as greater capacity to be better human beings toward other people. funny part about that is none of these religions were never pulled out someone's ass on a whim lol. these religions are based on historical facts that occurred which brought them to their conclusions. or even just things people deemed important to them at the time. like i believe the aztecs who worshiped the sun. seems more sensible than worshiping a tree for obvious reasons lol. as far as the afterlife? well that comes with the territory of what their god offers them for being faithful. THAT seems to be the only difference between all the religions is what happens when u die. all preach peace, respect for your fellow man, kindness, avoiding reckless behavior, etc. all just give u guidelines to help u become a better person since our most natural, primal states may not boast of peace and tranquility towards all of mankind all the time. some of us need a little bit of help and guidance from a "higher power" to get there.

I have an honest question for everyone. Do you believe that anyone can just pick any religion and say to themselves that these guys have all the answers and all the other religions are wrong. Religion is about control. Don't question the rules just follow them. People are in religions because they were born into them. If you study world religions, history, Ancient History, Astrology, etc. There is no way you would be able to pick a religion. I believe that there is a common thread that runs through all religions but most people will never see it because of the tunnel vision their religion creates.

I can relate... I was raised a witness...my mom passed away devoted...my father has been disfellowshipped, twice...and still is today... I am not a practicing witness, but through my own research of religion and scriptures, I do believe that they are the truth... I disagree with some of the things JA Rule said - for instance the man-made rules...non of what JW do and teach is man-made at all...it is ALL SCRIPTURAL. Disfellowshipping, is just a name for it, but the bible clearly says to do this 1 Corinthians 5:11-13

How is JW not Christian? If he was someone raised as a Jehovah's witness then why is he saying that he doesnt understand why he dont celebrate this and celebrate that, when there are extensively articulated explanations, reasons and scriptural references to why. You can ask a 12-yr old JW and they will tell you exactly why. It's rare to find one that actually doesnt know why. I gotta say, I dont buy the way he implies that he doesnt know why birthdays, and certain holidays are not observed. They all know why. Hell, I know why and I'm not one but know a number by association. He was one and say he dont know. Nah, not buying it. Half my family are JW's, from devout to casual, and one thing that I know for sure is that they dont say much of anything without showing you bible chapter and verse and explanation to why, what, when, and where. This doesnt have to be religious doctrine or anything, anyone can research almost any of the commonly celebrated holidays. Research their origins, where they came from. Hell, google or wikipedia it, find out what december 25th is and if jesus was born on that day, and where the fir tree, santa claus, elves, heck, even snow, ask what any of it has to do with christs birth and why it's a "holy" day. Figure out the origins of easter and then ask yourself what it has to do with christ or christianity, Dont even get me started on Halloween, which is fast become darn near sinful NOT to have your kids participate in. Where does that holiday align itself with christianity. Most strength and validity of most of these holidays is that others are celebrating it so the feeling of being different is what weirds a lot of people out, not because there is some righteous or truly solemn true god and christ connected significance to it. I will say that JW's are kind of a closed community tho. They are not supposed to hang with any that are not JW's, and if they do it is frowned upon. They want you to join them, but they dont want to join you, and if you do join them and mess up, they will treat you like an outcast. It's like it has some quaker elements to it with the shunning. I told my family, that they seem like good people, dont cuss, dont really have no vices, regular people trying to live an honest life, but the rules are too strict. No sex before marriage, it's cool I suppose if you plan to get married young, but if you not. . .nada. You also cant easily be casual, someone is always on you to be in it more, that's what's dangerous, you get in it deep and fully convert, then if you dont live up to and keep all those rules, they wanna throw you out and embarrass you. And if you get in the way they want you to get in, then they are the only people you associate with and know, so when they banish you for screwing up, they were all you knew, so your community is taken from you. You dont really have the option of keeping your street/separate life at all. Damn, I guess my family rubbed off on me more than I realized. didnt realize I knew so much about them. Also explains why the hell I cant I get my cousins to go with me to strip clubs?

It's great that Ja has made this step towards God and seeking Him alone. The only thing to add though is that the middle man to focus on is Jesus Christ. He is our way to the Father and it's His righteousness that covers us when we live for Him

I used to be Religious I grew up in a Christian household, Religion is not really what ppl make it out to be, Religion is about peace, love, tolerance and acceptance of ppl for who they are, but you know the crazy lunatic Fundamentalist made Religion out to be what its not...I left Christianity, but I still hold some Christian values such as two important commandments from Jesus 1) Love God and 2) Love thy neighbor as thyself, I am a Spiritual person I have a relationship with God, I follow God no longer man made Religion...that's who I feel, I feel we should have a relationship with God, see God made man and man made Religion, Religion is searching, looking for God while God is looking for man, I'm a Spiritual person now, but in the past I was very Religious I grew up in a more moderate Christian household my mom is a moderate Christian which really is more of a Christian than these Fundamentalist cus they dont follow Jesus rule they follow the Bible more and also take it too literally when you're not supposed to, God is love and fundamentalist are not about that, so I thank God I was raised in a household that showed nothing but love and thats the side of Christianity I was raised in, all that Fundamentalist Christianity I was never introduced to...anyway, I understand where he's coming from, I respect Religion at the end of the day tho, as far as Religious ppl go I cant respect you if you're a crazy lunatic Fundamentalist.

My parents crib was the same way. Me and my boys, my brother and his boys yo. Our basement was the spot, but my mom's was the same too. If any one of the fellas stayed the night on Saturday night my mom's made em go to church lol. My dudes would be pissed lol. Sometimes me and my brother would come home at like 5am and moms would see us. She didn't give a fuck she wake us right back up at 8 and make us go to church. That's the things people need to see. All religions are the same just different man made rules. Which thats the things that fuck up the world. Many people do crimes because of the religion rules. Also what i have learned is that the people kept asking for money to fund the church's. Isn't that kinda obvious of what was the whole meaning and what their intentions were to have those places. It was and still is a big scheme for people to give out money for free. Just a way to make a living telling people about this magical person that helps them out. Without anything to back it up. So they build a book that says great and bad things about the history of it just so that they can show it to people. Even worse sell it to make more money too and made these meetings to talk about it,and also to talk down about people who dont have the same believes as them lol what a waste of peoples life and time oh and the mane reason their money too. Im not religious as you can tell but like i said all you need to know is right from wrong and dont be bad to people. Have a good soul and keep doing what you do without hurting others.
