@@BoxofficePlusUSA 7. It's not mid. But it's not top either. So higher tier mid I'd say. But I feel like you are not gonna get true ratings here. Those who hate cruise will say 1 while those who love him will say high scores. That often is what happens to movies. People don't think there is more then. I like or I hate. But sadly the fear in the other guys doesn't sit like the story and the writing intended. Reacher was written to scare people before they engage, or make them make grandiose claims at a brick wall of a man. Before I'd seen the series I didn't understand and thought cruise was ok. But the writing for the stories kind of relies on reacher being obvious, sticking out and being a freight train.

@@meateaw which only shows how stupid the writting of the book is. if you need a mountain of a man to scare poeple, then you literally didn't write your book right. heroes aren't the obvious people, they are those who claim stuff and actually act on stuff, not the look they have. Aragorn doesn't look like a formidable foe. yet he is, gandalf looks like an old man barely able to hood a sword and cane. yet he fights like a fighter. those were the surprise, those were heroes. to me cruise looked much more impressive then richson. why ? because people underestimated him, he claimed stuff, others didn't believe him. he showed them. thats intelligent, thats good stuff right there. being a mean tall mountain of aman and just saying i'll kick your ass, thats not heroic at all. thats not even intelligent, that just shows how how the others are afraid for no reasons. i'm 5'5, needless to say i was on the shortest list at school. i held my own against people who had 3 heads higher then me. everyone around feared for me. i knew i was gonna lose... didn't matter, the courage is what people respect, not the size of you !

@@dndbasement2370 I'm glad you were able to connect to these unassuming heroes... But to suggest that heroes are never obviously dangerous is ridculous. Hercules, Sampson, Drogon, Thor, The Hulk, Superman, any Dwayne Johnson or Arnold Schwartzenager movie, and countless others would like a word. Reacher isn't stupid writing because the author didn't opt to go for the David look for his hero. It is awesome writing because you get to root for Goliath lol. Also, living your life trying to have people fear you is a really upsetting idea and a serial killer trait for sure... try being nice to people...

@1utube016 ай бұрын
Yep, Tom Cruise put the franchise on the map for the average casual moviegoer. There are not many actors on the tier that could have achieved the same box office results, and even fewer than a handful of them would have satisfied readers' fundamentalist expectations and demands.
@zacharynunley6 ай бұрын
Also, I think the movies and stories are better with Reacher being of Tom cruise’s size, since a smaller person has to have real skills in order to beat someone is much larger than him, versus the way reacher is described in the books means that he can simply overpower most opponents with brute force from his size.
@KutWrite6 ай бұрын
Not only that, but for me, seeing a huge guy beat up smaller guys isn't as satisfying as seeing a smaller, slightly aging guy do the job. tom Cruise being the guy is only a slight enhancement.

The people that complain about Tom being too small for Reacher are the same ones that say Jackman is the only one that can play Wolverine 😂
@devingilliam5601Ай бұрын
The problem is one of the things that makes Jack Reacher Jack Reacher is his size. He's supposed to look physically terrifying. Hell in the movie when they are trying to figure out who killed Sandy, they say they are looking for a guy who looks like he can kill someone with one punch and then it cuts to Tom Cruise. Who is 5'6" and doesn't look like he could kill someone in a single punch. Alan does. He's a better fit for the role in my opinion. They are both good at playing the character of Reacher but one has arguably the most important trait of Reachers which is his massive size. Another example is in one of the books he had been doing manual labor for months and was extra muscular. Later that book he gets shot by a .38 in his pec and it basically slowed the bullet and didn't cause any internal damage. Tom Cruise isn't built like that. The size of Wolverine isn't really that important to have the character be effective. For Reacher it is in my opinion.

Imo, the first movie was the best of all the Reacher adaptations. Literally the only thing wrong with it was Tom's short height. The characters were compelling, the story well-written, and the action scenes well done. The character Reacher knew enough to seem really smart, but not enough to feel omniscient (something the series suffers from greatly). In particular, I love the bar brawl where he tells them all how it's going to go based on the numerous times he's done it before (last guy always runs), but then he is actually surprised when it doesn't. He still wins because he is extremely skilled, but this little mistake makes him seem like a really intelligent human instead of some sort of detective god.

Tom Cruise is short, but the first movie worked better because the cinematography, choreography, and overall direction did their best to make you forget this. There are a couple of scenes where someone unfamiliar with Tom Cruise entirely might see, and all of a sudden notice how short he is, but those scenes are few and far between. And that's how to do it. I never watched the second movie because I got to a couple of scenes where they emphasized in surrounding him with much bigger guys and clearly showcasing how much bigger they are, But you see how big they are compared to other people and subconsciously the movie is showing you how shorts Tom Cruise is. Among other reasons, but that was a big one holding that movie back.
