The strophe and the antistrophe are made of couples of triplets. Each triplet has two anapaestic dimeters, like "There are few who deny - Quis enim reprobat" (except the first verse of the second strophe of the second antistrophe, which has a dactylic hemistich instead, "no animal, no man - nōn homo, nōn animāns"), followed by an anapaestic trimeter, like "for my talents are renown far and wide - operōsa Minerva creat?". The epode is also made of two strophes. Both are quatrains. The first is of anapaestic tetrameters like "Yet year after year, it's the same routine - Annusque alius redit atque īdem", with the exception of the third verse in the first iteration: that is made of a bacchee and a first epitrite, like "and I, Jack, the Pumpkin King - ut hoc mī, quis id crēdat?"; and of the first verse in the second iteration: that is an anapaestic trimeter ("But who here would ever understand - Quisnam ūmquam hīc sentiat animō"). The second strophe is of iambic dimeters, like "Oh, somewhere deep inside of these bones - Ā, nesciō quae vacuitās". Stylistic and semantic note Jack is a provected orator who masters all the rhetorical instrumentation of meaning, like interrogations ("quis enim reprobat?", "quis id crēdat?", "quisnam ūmquam hīc sentiat animō?"), metonymiae ("operōsa Minerva"), semantic subtilities (ingenium vs studium), of morpho-syntax, like anastrophae ("nova quum nāvō", "fugis ut Furiās"), hyperbata ("per ossa jam glīscit mea"), polyptota ("plaususque plausū trūditur", "fugo tē, fugis ut"), and of sound, like homoeoteleuton ("annusque alius") and alliteration ("fugo tē, fugis ut Furiās"). He also loves to show his particular skills by means of specific lexicon and quotations (rhēsis is a theatric terminus technicus; "plaususque plausū trūditur" echoes Horace's "trūditur diēs diē"). In the depth of his soul, however, he is deeply shaken: his monologue begins with "enim", a phrasal connector, as if he were carrying on an inner dialogue begun way earlier. Jack is an artist, and as such he uses the language more to communicate with himself than with the others. When he has to communicate with others, he is less capable of it: the proof is that, when he tries to explain the wonders of Christmas Town, despite of his rhetorical skills, he gets frustrated by being not understood. So, his thoughts are like a sinking stream and his words are only the emerging part of it. To see the whole, one has to live his life. Stefano Vittori

@Claymann712 жыл бұрын
We mean Gothic in a colloquial way, not literally from the Goths. Gothic as in, 'the world is a cruel & harsh place, & that makes me sad'.. Both the Romans & Goths would understand what that is/was like. Jack's Lament & Jack's Soliloquy are IMHO the best songs in the Movie, with a close runner-up being Oggie Boogie's & Lock-Shock-&-Barrel's just for the sheer fun-factor of singing it as a trio.

I can never get over how good the animation in this is. As someone who has worked in the medium, I always respect being able to simulate gravity and force in this medium while still getting across character. I absolutely love the way Jack is animated, every motion he makes, though exaggerated, never comes across a comical. You can also see how his coat-tails sway when he shifts. Stop-Action is probably the hardest medium of animation, and this film is masterclass.
