Im glad you found something good for yourself but the fact is, in 99% of cases you will not see six figures unless you do OT, its even worse if you expect that kinda pay in the first 4-5 years, because it is even more unlikely

In most cases you're not high enough to be able to turn around and deploy it in time. You'd also end up getting caught into the tower which would definitely be bad. It would also be very heavy carrying that + all the tools to fix the bulb. A rope is just many times more efficient. @@chogak

As someone who works in telecommunications as a cell phone tower technician I really can’t believe ppl think this is true lol. We are wildly underpaid, majority of us are salary and barely clear 60k a year. Not contracted by a specific tower company and payed 60k for something as simple as changing a lightbulb 😂 and fyi carriers have ceased giving us more towers to work on so the industry recently really took a hit. Now would be the worst time to apply, just in case you or anyone else was seriously considering climbing towers 👍

No this is a real thing. I’m not 100% certain that the pay grade is 600k, but there’s a few jobs that pay ludicrous amounts to change parts. Specifically, these jobs are replacing parts on super high/dangerous locations. Usually hundreds of meters in the air without machines to change the parts for them, the pay grade is so high because of how dangerous it can be if you fall, as well as how important it is that the part gets swapped.

I had a kid on my crew forget a tool and didn't notice till he got to the top of the 850 we were climbing (well, they were climbing because I'm a foreman now). He climbed all the way down then right back up. My crew are all very strong climbers though, so he did it all in 3 pulls(a pull is the segment of the tower you climb in one go without a break, so 3 pulls is start climb, rest, climb, res, climb). My crew are the strongest climbers in the company though because I'm old and a disabled vet with nerve damage in my spine from an rpg, so if I beat anyone they don't hear the end of the shit talking. My crew got tired of it and are the only people faster than me now. Except going down a monopole, I do a controlled fall down a monopole, can't go too quick though or your cable grab will catch.

This number may be off, but danger pay is real. I have a buddy who went into HVAC right after high school. He ended up landing a job in the Middle East and made over 2 million in less than 5 years before he came back. (White guy working on HVAC in boom boom towns is dangerous given the kidnappings and ransoms of Americans over there if you’re lucky not to be killed immediately)

@@BATMAN_06okay, any other trade is just as isn’t more dangerous?… take welding, if you act stupid you get a strong zap and your heart stops… or loggers, one wrong move, or even the wrong move of another and you die, same with construction, etc. climbing a ladder with safety harnesses to change a light is dangerous but there are far more dangerous jobs that are also far more common. The hazard pay for even the most dangerous jobs will not pay you 600k for a day’s work. In reality those people make like 60k a year….

My dad had one of those guys come in as a patient and so my dad asked him about the work. He says it’s 340 work days a year regardless if you’re climbing the super tall ridiculous tower or what. But whatever company you work for that allows you to do that has you working year round on smaller things. They’re not just gonna pay you 60k twice a year for 2 days of work. The guy explained to my dad about how dangerous this job is and how all electricians that climb towers are in constant danger. How he’s seen people get flung from transformers that blow up etc. my dad is an eccentric dude he is Rasta and white, for my dad to call this guy a wild dude is a lot. He explained how they gotta take shifts climbing up and down because of how the electricity essentially cooks you

The guys that climb those towers to change the lightbulb work up to 50 hours a week, often on the road. You change the lightbulb on the same tower twice per year, and you're climbing different towers every day. There's also maintenance among other things they have to do.
