The commenter SAID, “start of a legend” meaning most likely….When Whitney Houston became “visible” “memorable” by #mainstream. The age of video was taking off….THIS SONG proverbially, “put her on the map” and the rest being History! So Yes; She WAS already in music, yea she had other singles with their respective results but after this Album🤯 This album went what; 💎plus two more! Y’all debatin the petty parts of the whole story…. Three; Count Em 💎💎💎

This is You Give Good Love from Whitney Houston's first album, it was actually her first single. Her debut album sold over 22 million copies worldwide and had 3 #1 singles on it. That album became the biggest selling debut album in history by a female artist at that time. Her second album Whitney, surpassed that, and became the first album by a female artist to debut at #1. That album had 4 #1 singles on it and she became the only artist in history to have 7 consecutive #1 hit singles. A record that still stands today!

This song was released in 1985 when I was about 8-years-old. I still remember it being a new song, watching it on my aunt's living room floor in front of her huge floor model television on BET. Great memories for me. I'm 44 now, so imagine how old I feel seeing this so many years later, and Whitney's no longer with us! This is her first single if I remember right. She was so young, just starting out and a star on the rise. First video of hers I remember, and I still get chills from it all these years later.

Ahhhhhh this brings back memories. I was a little squirt of 7 or 8. It was a Friday night when MTV was still in its infancy and you had late night music video shows. On Fridays and Saturdays my mom would let me stay up. More often than not instead of watching TV the TV was watching me. I remember waking up around 1 or 2:00 in the morning to the sound of Whitney Houston singing this song. The next day I was begging my mother to take me to the record store to get this song only I couldn't remember her name or how the song went!😝 Somehow someway a week later she managed to find you give good love. I was so excited!

From her SMASH self-title debut album, "Whitney Houston," this became her first top 10 hit, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (it was her first #1 hit on the Billboard R/B Chart - finishing 1985 at #2 on that chart, #47 on the Hot 100 Songs of 1985). I was at the beach, almost 14 years old, and I walked by someone's boombox that must have been tuned into one of the popular Baltimore FM radio stations and I only heard a few seconds of this song BUT it was that voice that I was honestly lulled into, having never heard anyone like that before. From then, Whitney was my 'crush' & I fell in love with her and to this day - 10 1/2 years after she has sadly passed on, STILL my all time favorite singer!!
