I remember back in the 80’s, and 90’s those International cabovers of J.B. Hunts were everywhere! Seemed like every other truck was on of theirs! Damn I miss the good old days!

Most ended up in Russia in late 90s early 2000s and were a very common site. Even now some are still going although in very rough condition.

Love the old Chevy station wagon at 5:27 and the Marmon cabover at 5:32. Dad bought an old J.B. Binder cabover to use as our farm truck back in the late 80s. It was a bare bones tractor but it flat refused to die! The farm is long gone but I still see the old binder hauling beans every season! I know it's ours because I know who bought it at the farm sale. His son has it now.

The old ones didn't have emissions junk on them and were 100% mechanical. Put a set of batteries in them and they'll likely start even if sitting for years.

I remember JB Hunt's yard in Odessa, TX. It was full of flatbeds to haul pipe and help move drilling rigs in the oilfield. They just kept growing here when the oilfield boomed so much in the 1980's to 2000's. Their trucks seemed to be everywhere. Great video! Brought back a lot of memories.

This was the beginning of LOW WAGES for Drivers! O/Op's at that time were making $1.50 to $3.00 a Mile ! My Dead Uncle went Regional during the late 70's early 80's! Made himself a Millionaire! 1 Truck, 1 Owner Operator, 1 Load at a time! By 1987, he bought a Half a Million Dollar House on 100 Acres, Owned Cars, property an even invested in other Businesses! NAFTA Killed the Entire Textile Industry in NC/SC Anyway, I always wondered which company started the Low Wages, in the Industry !! Now we know! JB Hunt !

What a great story. I see his vision. Pay the drivers more than the award drivers rate or have a good enterprise agreement by using a smart driver between non union employees and the company ,you will get drivers that spread the good word about the company. If you have hot seat changeovers where drivers get home more often that is great, everyone will want to drive there rigs.. A smart man that they all need to learn from. Drivers won't blackmail each other to get you know what. Thanks for the great videos love them all. Keep the wheels rolling. 10/10

In 92, I did a lot of running stateside. I think I seen more Schneider (punkin packers) on the highways than JBHunt, and a lot of both those companies. I bet you could see 1/2 a dozen or more otr any day you were driving. They were all Binder Eagle Cabovers 3:33, regardless of JB or Pumpkin's, limited at 55mph. All I seen was if you worked for JB, then "work lots, shitty pay", keep you away from home enough that you couldn't have the time to find a better paying job and quit JB. Being away from home 2 wks at a time, that wasnt for me, fun for a summer but got out of it to haul locally.

I drove for them from Aug, 1995 to Oct, 2003 and really my one major complaint I had was running in the northeast all too often as I was out of Lowell, Arkansas. I was always home on time and on occasion got a freebie home day if the truck's B service was due (which must be done at the home terminal, no exceptions) In 1997 most OTR drivers got a wage boost to 37 cents a mile and by late 1998 conventional cabs were replacing the cabovers. My only other negative memory was for about two years our trucks were set at 59 mph which made trips the more boring. J.B. Hunts own drivers never went into Mexico in the 1990s (I'm sure most would refuse if asked) They had contracts with Mexican companies to haul south of the border. When I started in 1995, my entry wage was 23 cents a mile and not 28 cents.

Going into the early 2000s JB hunt cabovers were still on the road with the conventionals.

I was with JB Hunt for 16 years. Hey do you remember. The picket fence. If you pick up a load in Arkansas and it was going to New Jersey. Nine times out of 10 you can drop it at the picket fence. We had a couple of them in Pennsylvania. Basically all they were was drop yards. But JB Hunt called it picket fence.
@muffs55mercury61 Жыл бұрын
@@cretejake34301 Yes I remember the picket fence but it wasn't used all that much. Rarely when I was up in the northeast did I get to drop a load at a drop yard. I didn't mind going up there from time to time but often I was stuck up there the whole 16-17 days I normally stayed out. PA I never minded going to for the most part.

There were two videos on YT showing them and old pics of their trucks and the years they shut down but no company histories. Virtually all were a result of deregulation. Really sad.

I would love to see one on Long Mile Rubber Company. They were hauler affiliate of Goodyear that closed up around 1990.my dad drove for them through most of the 1980s. My earliest trucking memories are of him and the Peterbilt 359 he drove for them.

What was the one SE of Tulsa? I think John Cristner is there now. I'd also suggest Builders Transport as a defunct company video. An absolute shit show my dad drove for when I was a kid. Green International cabovers pulling flatbeds.

JB Hunt is just one of the companies responsible for driving thousands of independent owner operators like me out of business after deregulation. If I wrote what I really think of them I’d be kicked off of KZbin. 😡😡😡. Suffice to say it ain’t good
