Welcome to another Art Store Tour! Today I will visit Jacksons Drawing Supplies (not to be confused with UK's Jackson's Art!) in Western Australia. There are eleven Jacksons shops in WA and Northern Territory (NT), and the one I am touring is their large Fremantle store.
Don't forget to check out my whole playlist of art store tours if you want to see more videos like this one!

@@BeckyTregear I read the company's bio on their website and it didn't mention at all where or when the paint line had launched. I get disappointed when that happens. I like to know where my products are made whenever I can. I believe in giving the rest of the world a chance to have my hard earned money if I can. Everything here is made in China and so it always gives me great pleasure when I can spread my meager wealth at home or to other countries. Not that I hate China or anything, I just don't like the monopoly it has on us.

I saw there were some tins of Derwent pencils on the shelf above the Faber Castell classic red sets. There was an inktense color chart pinned above them so I guess they were inktense sets. The 4 main NZ art stores that I shop online in, each have different mixtures of brands, of different mediums, so it is starting to get easier to find more brands here now thankfully. Some shops only sell the tins or sets of a medium or brand and another might only sell that medium or brand, open stock. I prefer open stock where possible so I don't feel like I'm wasting money on colors I won't use. I had no idea Australia had so many art supply producers. I should have a look to see which of your stores might ship things here.

Jackson's NEEDS to open a store in the US!!! I order from the mall the time and I have never gotten anything in LESS THAN THREE DAYS!!!! From friggin ENGLAND to the US! When stuff from US stores takes two weeks......... And, no, I am not paying for shipping! I place a large enough order to get free shipping, but just regular, not overnight or two day. Although I have a sneaking suspicion it is cuz it flies straight into JFK, which is only an hour and a half from where I live in CT.
@MrsBarnabas
@MrsBarnabas Күн бұрын
Amy, I think you missed the first few minutes of the video? Both there and in the description, Becky says, _"Jacksons Drawing Supplies (not to be confused with UK's Jackson's Art!)"_ Incidentally, Jacksons UK does have a warehouse in Australia and also, the US, which will package and send out orders of the things they stock (they don't have the full inventory). They aren't heaviy publicised, but when I ordered a gift for a friend in Australia, it said that where appropriate, that's where goods would be shipped from. And more than one ArtTuber in the US has mentioned that one. This may be why your orders only take three days? Jackson's also enable the orders to bypass Customs by covering the fees in the price you pay at checkout, and that cuts down transport time, which via Customs can add several days, or even a couple of weeks, depending on the time of year.
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear Күн бұрын

@MrsBarnabas Oh! Also, no. I'm not getting anything from the US warehouse. I am ordering off the UK site, my packages are packed and ship from Heathrow to JFK, from there to USPS, and then to my house. You have to choose the US site to get stuff from the US warehouse. Which I don't want to do because where the warehouse is located is even further from my house than the originating warehouse for Blick. And Blick takes two WEEKS! I mean, it takes them a day to package and drop off to the carrier, buy it takes the carrier as long as they want!😂😂

@@BeckyTregear With you there, Becky!!! These days, I'd love a holiday in the UK where I could also fit in a visit to their London stores - and CassArt, too! But to do so, I'd need to be a: very rich, b: have my own aircraft to ship me and all my purchases back to SW France!!! Hey-ho, imagination is great thing, but not always practical!!! 😄 But equally, I can close my eyes and imagine you taking a road trip to Adelaide with an empty trailer behind to accommodate your shopping - or maybe even running a minibus to take your local artists with you (plus larger trailer on the back for all the shopping... ) having arranged with the store to stock up for your arrival😄

@bluewren65
@bluewren65 Күн бұрын
I'm not sure that's true. Whenever I look at the prices on sets, or even often on open stock, I find that there are many art stores, nationally that offer better prices than Officeworks. I have never found that officeworks offers the cheapest prices on art materials. Remember that Officeworks is owned by Wesfarmers which also owns coles/myer. Given how badly we are gouged for our groceries, it's unsurprising that the prices for professional art materials at officeworks are also not exactly competitive.

I love art store tours. Even though the nearest Canadian city to me is a pretty good size (by Canadian standards), it doesn’t have an art store. Craft store, yes, art store, no. The nearest one to me is 120km and requires a significant investment in time and fuel to visit. They do have an online shop but shipping costs are so high in Canada that it isn’t worth it unless you’re going to purchase a lot of things at once. It is a lovely little shop, though and it’s fun to make a day trip to go visit once in a while. I really admire the way Australia manufactures their own brands of art supplies. That’s not common in Canada. I know of only two brands of watercolour paint that are made in Canada…..Beam and Stoneground. I have never seen Beam paint in a store in my part of Canada and I only know of one store even remotely near me that carries Stoneground. In fact, I can lay my hands on Mont Martre art supplies more easily in my nearby city than I can any Canadian brands. Makes me a bit sad that I can’t easily support my own country’s brands.

@@BeckyTregear I went shopping this afternoon and found an awesome Mont Martre organizer box for my paints. The chain store Marshall’s seems to carry the brand. I’m pretty sure it’s the Canadian version of TJ Maxx. Stoneground paints are beautiful. Lily Moon and Denise Soden have done videos about them. Beam paints are very unique. Their story is very interesting and worth checking out. It’s an indigenous company and they package their paints in environmentally conscious packaging. Instead of plastic half pans, their paint is poured into beeswax canvas tubes. You can get their curated palettes that are poured into carved out slabs of birch. I’m pretty sure Emma Lefebvre has a video on them.
