How do you stop the infamous 30-day syndrome when raising baby discus fish? We use potassium permanganate. In our hatchery we have a 200-gallon system and based on my measurements, we use two grams for the entire system. We're going to show you how we do it in our system but remember one thing - this is for the professionals and your measurements will be different.

For home hobbyists, you can just use hydrogen peroxide. It is an oxidizer like PP but a bit safer and doesn't stain. I dose 5ml/10 gallons. You can kill fish if you dose too much.

And if we canister filter and not sump, then directly in the tank?. And how much hydrogen peroxide per 100 gallons of water. My tank have the purple color for about one hour and the color stay the same or low diference, the fishes are fine and i put the hydrogen peroxide because i have afrais to sicken the fries. I made right or i can let the PP react as long as need. Thanks in advice and best regards. Big hug from Portugal.

hello friend, for a 100-liter aquarium, what is the dosage of potassium permanganate, and what is the dosage of hydrogen peroxide, after the water turns brown, uses hydrogen peroxide to remove the brown color, after that it is necessary to make a partial change of Water? or is not presiso? I can pour the permanganate directly into the aquarium, or dilute first, since I don't have a sump, I can do it in the community aquarium with plants, botia palhaço, coridoras etc ... thank you very much and good work

hi Gabe! First... thanks for all your great instructional videos... I really appreciate your enthusiasm and your imparting your knowledge to us novices... I started with Discus and aquarium about 2 months ago... have done everything I can as a home hobbyist to create the water environment you stress is essential... have been able to get close with some of the parameters, although still a little way to go with conductivity... however, incredibly enough one of my pairs has laid its second eggs and a lot of them hatched... so they are now about 36 hours old... I saw this video last night... my breeding tank is about 18 gallons... I dont want to fry my fry of course... but is it worthwhile dosing them with a miniscule amount of PP in say even less a ratio than you have in this video with your big system? or is it too dangerous? thanks for any comment you can provide!

Such treatments do not work in established tanks, because it will oxidize and kill all organic stuff and waste between plants, rocks, substrate, bacteria in your filter, dead plant leaves,........ Therefore you can not calculate a ppm solution to dose in an established tank, you can only treat with this method in bare bottom tanks and your biofiltration with not work anymore

If your changing the water to remove coffee color do you do it over time or 100% . Do you feed them for this treatment ? When you add hydrogen peroxide to water that to deactivate the ppm would this kill your beneficial bacteria in sponge filter? Could you do this on a single tank with no sump just sponge air driven filters? Thank you Gabe.
