In addition to Jacob's "WTF? Where did that come from?!" intro, what amazes me is how Jacob took a rather brooding and meandering melody and made it into something gorgeous that made melodic and harmonic sense. It was like a creative move in a friendly game of musical chess. Herbie says, "Check." Jacob smiles and replies, "Check. Mate." ;^D

Absolutely Brilliant Jacob. Wonderful use of the harmonic, rhythmic musical language and imagination, tastefully filling in gaps where required. I really love videos like these which inspire musical creativity showing what's possible with higher level harmonic knowledge and skill. I also love what this kind of thing is inspiring everyday people as well as other musicians to do (I heard quite a few excellent ideas from people on this video). I also love what you did with Herbie's wonderful test melody at the end (I could just imagine him rubbing his hands in anticipation and glee). I'll be definitely putting this video on my playlist and will be taking notes. Again excellent upload. God bless

Limiting music to a specific tuning standard and temperament limits the colors and possibilities. It does not bug me if something is "out of tune". If a piano or guitar are 15 cents flat, as long as the notes across the instrument are in tune with each other I could care less about whether it is tuned to A-440 or A-432 and so on.

herbie hancock had a barbershop vocal group in high school and was influenced by the hilos! when he heard the great pianist/composer clare fischer was in the same capitol recording studios he was working in he ran down to introduce himself. clare was the hi los musical director and arranger for years. when herbie was with donald byrd herbie asked donald if he knew of clare, donald said yeah we went to the same high school together! i love hearing young people using art in new ways in a new context and adding their own art to make it new again! thank you john. incredible!!!
