It's entertainment, and certainly a novel approach but I think a bit silly to send someone like him in a different class with absolutely nothing in common with these people and probably the type of person who reinforces the stereo-type image of Conservatives being the party of the rich. They'd be better off sending MP's from other working class areas and backgrounds, and showing data on historical performance of Labour v Conservative in their constituency.
@paullangton-rogers2390
@paullangton-rogers2390 7 жыл бұрын
Nick Nack True. The community there is mixed and some clearly support Conservatives and other parties, but they're definitely a minority. He was going on an exploration mission with an open mind I guess to find out why. However, the demographics and history of the place tells you everything you need to know and what you're up against, on paper really. I think it was more a news publicity stunt, or PR exercise by the Conservatives. This guy to his credit though, is trying to involve ordinary working class people more in politics all the time with his TV appearances etc, and wants people to be more involved in the running of the country, which is definitely a good thing in the age of social media where voters should have more involvement and say in how things are run. Labour only show up when they want your vote. Then are happy for you to remain silent and let them take all the decisions.
@paullangton-rogers2390
@paullangton-rogers2390 7 жыл бұрын
Nick Nack Me either, they leaflet my area but that's all, they don't bother knocking the door. UKIP and Lib Dem are consistent in that they do knock doors. Labour has the mentality of bloc votes I think. They just roll out the map, and do it in a very calculated math way. They know they have areas of the country like South Shields which they're totally safe, generations of Labour supporters, and so they don't bother going there. that's a bloc vote.. then there's the minority votes, LGBT and ethnic minorities, particularly the large Muslim bloc vote, Labour relies on. Once they counted all these bloc votes up and tested their popularity in those, they then focus their efforts on swing areas and/or getting a high turnout, plus some election fraud of course. I despise the party, I really do, and everything they stand for. They do not stand for the "working person" it's a myth that's been perpetuated around Labour. They're only generous on welfare and maintaining a large welfare State. That's not the answer though, it hasn't worked and has turned the country into a magnet for migrants. Just like giving large donations of cash to regimes in Africa isn't going to solve the poverty there without real work on the ground, education and investment in economically active people. Labour is the worse of all political parties for bad governance if you look at their history. Some of their mistakes and decisions have been of epic proportions that no competent small company would do, let alone a government. Like Brown selling a third of the UK's gold reserve at the start of a recession, to buy Euro's a currency we never would have. The Lisbon Treaty signing, surrendering British sovereignty and trade power to Brussels and costing the UK hundreds of billions over the years. And what do we have to show for it? Then there's the Iraq-Afghan war under Blair. Mass immigration under Blair too. The list goes on and on. You can go right back to 1947 and the Immigration Act granting British nationality and residency to the entire Commonwealth, over 1.6 billion people back then. That was Labour's decision. The 1970's energy crisis and rapid economic and industrial decline of Britain happened also at Labour's peak of their power when they had nearly every industry State nationalized still. They couldn't run a single one profitably.

Nick Nack Uuugh yes. You can spot the Labour guys in unions too..always the big wide-arm framed glasses and loud mouths lol. I had a run-in with one such guy who worked for Royal Mail not long before it was privatised. Had to school him in who pays his wages and how businesses work, he had the mindset the businesses serve Royal Mail and its some institution that can forever go on losing money unaccountable and having "Royal" in the name and being State-owned allows him and his ilk to talk to its customers like crap and play the big man. I paid £15k in postage that year with 4 consecutive price hikes, and the nerve of the guy!

Cut taxes means less public services, I don't understand why English people find that difficult to understand and then they are crying about the NHS. 14 years of failure and its not completely obvious when you look at other countries. The way people live in the UK is depressing, the state of houses people rent, and victorian diseases like scurvy returning and schools collapsing with no real plan on fixing it despite being one of the richest countries in the world, there's no excuse for it

If you had the money your kids would become posh by proxy wouldn't make you any more of a man, or your kids any less, dont judge a book by its cover, that's what your claiming and condemning others for doing

@@sdh6983 I appreciate the thought put into your reply. I wouldn't necessarily say that he's a bad person because of being rather wealthy and posh but rather that he's symptomatic of the ever present and worsening class divisions within the UK. He shook his head sadly, in disbelief, as he recalled building a toilet block on a site for the local 'travelling commununity' (he wasn't quite so polite) back in the 1970s or 80s. It was paid for by the local authority, (ie taxpayers) of course, and he said that within a week of it being finished, all the copper pipes had been stolen!

A Reyrolle Electrical Switch Gear had 15,000 employees. 50’s and 60’s Barbour still make coats for royalty! There was 13 coal mines when I was a lad. Bede Trading Estate had many manufacturing factories! I was always a Tory but the Tory Party let us down! Thatcher for one! At one time there were so many boats in the river up to 4 in depth. They can barely give a reason why they vote Labour except for err errr bad Tories, Maggie Thatcher 1980's. Labour swamped working class areas with mass immigration and covered up Islamic child grooming.. as well as bailing out the rich bankers with taxpayers money and waging illegal wars...These ignorant voters do not read about the crimes of socialism. Many of them are patriotic but have no idea they're voting for marxists who despise Britain.

Hi Joshua, All MP voting records are publically available on a website called "theyworkforyou.com". My comment wasn't meant as a dig at the Conservative party nor the supporters. It was purely there to provide an argument that JRM might not be as great as everyone in this comments section is making out. The comment also highlights a good amount of hypocrisy in what Rees-Mogg is saying in this video. My original comment doesn't even mention which party JRM is part of.

That woman who said there’s be a civil war and riots was 100% correct seeing as she predicted the reaction to BREXIT

Were have we had riots and a civil war over Brexit, were not happy about it sure but as for the other 2 things, erm I must have been asleep when all that kicked off.

As a Tory I would vote for Mogg without hesitation. He is highly intelligent, clear and consistent in what he believes, and works hard not just in his constituencies, but elsewhere.

Mogg is so cute! Love how he can get on with anyone and doesn't need to change himself.

To be honest, the man dresses respectfully and asks genuine questions. Sure he is 'posh', but he doesn't look down his nose at people, even if they're blowing smoke in his face or dressed like they just don't care. He wasn't just taking their opinions, he bought sweets, he helped with Bingo and tried to give people a laugh. He didn't need to do any of that, he has a good life and doesn't need to interact with these people and yet he does.
