@MS-194 жыл бұрын
That sort of thing is found all over the House of Commons. The former MP Martin Bell, Independent member for Tatton (1997-2001) once said that walking through the corridors of Westminster, he was struck by how often he could see Tory and Labour MPs enjoying friendly conversations; if a blazing argument was going on, it tended to be between a pair of MPs from the same party. Fundamentally, whether MPs are Conservative, Labour, Liberal or Nationalist, they all want the country to do well and they want to achieve good things for all the people of this country, whichever way they vote. It's just that they have different ideas about how to achieve it.

This courtesy and civility is something I love about Britain. Their politicians can be articulate, funny, and accepting of differences in politics and social backgrounds without personal attacks. One saw this for years on HIGNFY on which Rees mogg was quite funny. Yet he is a devious, deceptive, and utterly selfish human being, as seen by his pseudo-defence of Brexit. And I find Jess Phillips much more straight forward, charming, and polite than she sometimes seemed on HIGNFY.

And now we know that Brexit has knocked "at least" 5% off GDP. The US aren't signing up to a trade deal, which was one of the big selling points. They really should have stayed in. Thatcher had it right : go in, keep Sterling, and get a rebate to contributions. The Euro is a disaster. But membership of this trading block, with free movement of capital, people, and goods is very sensible. Now employers can't get staff; foreigners have had to leave; and the country is looking like a basket case, increasingly dependent on the City of London, to such an extent that the regulators are again watering down the controls put in place to rein in bad actors after the GFC. I really hope they have another referendum on it in the next 10 years.

@@lankystudent We always did live in our own country. If you went to any other country like Germany and said the EU was taking away sovereignty, they'd laugh. The EU only makes common law for human rights and trading standards (something that's in the common folk's favour and something we should want. It benefits the poor, not the rich). Meanwhile, the vast majority of English law is created by unelected officials in the House of Lords which is an arguably less democratic and worse system than the EU. The fact Brexiters aren't pushing for the British system now to be changed suggests an understanding of our own system, let alone the EU. The only reason the NHS is no longer for sale to the US is because the public found out. Meanwhile, food standards, working hours, and health and safety are already being discussed to be worsened. Inflation has already caused every family in the UK to be poorer, and as someone whose studied economics I can tell you that'll be much worse in the future. Very beautiful, yes. Please, tell me specifically which human rights protections common business laws the EU provided were bad and the brilliant new ones the Conservatives will bring in. Newspeak.Yes, there are many reasons to leave but none more important than that we return to being a self-governing democracy able to decide our own future.

As an American I have this to say: Just a few decades ago, Britain was an empire. Now, it's just a small state in the super nation of EU. Not only that, Britain is not even really in charge of EU, Germany is. So really if I was british I would vote out because I would want my children to grow up British and not idk what EU will become. Take your country back...

2:18 "Where I live, the hospitals wouldn't be able to run without migrants" Which, as anyone with a brain would realise, is an argument to LEAVE, because with a balanced immigration policy we'll be able to recruit the best medical staff from *around the world* much more easily.

Or we'd train up our own people as a priority. Or we'd realise that migrants needed in the NHS is a Ponzi scheme as migrants use the NHS too and so do their families.

Jess Phillips has the most troubling body language and social skills I've ever seen in a "down to Earth" MP. How is it that Jacob Rees-Mogg in this day and age can come out looking the most appealing? I voted remain and would still rather be led by him than her. I know intellect when I see it and even if I disagree with some of his opinions I know he could do a much better job.

So you'd rather be conned by a well-spoken bloke than be helped by good-hearted fool? Your logic baffles me.

If I had to choose between either Jess Phillips or Jacob Rees-Mogg to be the next prime minister, without a doubt in my mind, I would choose Jacob Rees-Mogg. Goodness knows what Jess Phillips would do with this country. I wouldn't trust her with my goldfish let alone a country.

Ignore left or right, in or out, ignore the politics - this video of two completely different people having a pleasant time was genuinely lovely to watch. I fucking wish politics was more like this. No venom, no spin - just a calm, collected and passionate expression of very different view points.

Although Mogg is privileged and speaks RP, I could see him massively appealing to the U.K as a Tory leader.

for every pound that the EU gives to the UK it taxes the UK back 2 pounds 5 pence. - So it would be cheaper if the UK just organised itself in a way that it doesn't have to pay more than double (via EU) in order to fund the NHS and other institutes.... Think about it... the EU doesn't really give a penny it just charges it back... we pay more this way then if we did it ourselves..
@karlmunford70008 жыл бұрын
They give us some of *our own money* back then tell us how to spend it, and worse of all those who benefit from such funds actually praise the EU for giving them it when it was in reality... given by the nation. The situation is impossible! *‘The lovelies, those favoured few’* esculent.co.uk/brexit/articles/brexit-0023.html The First Minister of Wales is a prime example, who like a pig with its nose buried so deeply in the trough can't seem lift his head to reason just what might happen if having 'Remained' the EU then decides to stop all future payments and give them to say the Ukraine in an effort to buy their allegiance. The truth is in the event they wouldn't be able to do anything about it being under the yoke of a dictatorial bureaucracy, for his eyes being so full of the feed currently in the trough the First Minister of Wales can't seem to see past the end of his very short snout. Better I say that a sovereign United Kingdom gave Wales the cash, and thereafter receive an allegiance justly deserved rather than it being wrongly offered to the EU.

I stand corrected... apparently we pay back Two Pounds Thirty Pence... for every one Pound the EU gives us...
