Pathologic 2 OST: (12) Miracle Workshop Extended II

Can a man really do his life's work in a place of such chaos as the Town? Well, yes - if you have a place to call your true home. A place where you can rest, recuperate, and help others do the same. A place where locals will come and ask for help, and give their support. A place where you can stop being a hero, though - a place where you can just be human.
I extended it further because, well, 17 minutes just wasn't enough! I'll go back and extend the others I'd already extended a bit to an hour too at some point. Let me know if you have any other hour-long soundtrack requests, and I'll do my best to fulfill them.

Hope this place has a different theme as the bachelor, considering he spends half the game seeing artemy as a crazed madman and not the cozy gentle giant this track makes him out to be

On the one hand, I miss the old music for Artemys hideout in the original game. It nailed the atmosphere of some weird, potentially dangerous man conducting strange experiments using human organs and blood. But I also love how soothing the new version is.

The stone operating table in the centre of the room is my favourite bit. Isidor may not have understood hygiene, but he had good taste.

While the lair in the original has a fantastic, grungy sort of charm, I much prefer it in P2. This music is a huge part of the reason why - it's just as heavy as the first game's, but in a sleepy sort of way rather than a feverish one. It feels so much more inviting and peaceful, as though you could just lock the door and forget about what's happening outside - you can't, of course, but maybe hell can wait another few hours. Because who's more deserving of a rest than you? The workshop comes across as genuinely lived-in, too - by one man, and now another - and it's certainly the closest I ever felt to Isidor. Only once Artemy makes his home here does it begin to feel like he's not so much trapped in his father's shadow, but is truly following in his footsteps. Only by making peace with his burden does Artemy come into his own. Thanks so much for extending these tracks and for taking the time to record the ambiences as well. I never comment over on your (excellent) blog, but your writing on the Silent Hill series is the reason I've decided to play what have become some of my favourite games, so thanks for that too!

The lighting in this game has something special when it's sunny, also present in Dishonored, for example. It feels warm, soft and nostalgic, it reminds me of the times I spent rummaging through old things at my grandmother's house when I was a child, the lighting felt exactly like this.

This song lives rent free in my head even a year after beating the Haruspex story. I played this game religiously for a couple days straight and the atmosphere is just perfect, the sheer amount of relief and rest that returning to the workshop is crazy, whenever the theme pops into my head I instantly feel more relaxed than I currently was.

Death ventures deeper into the lair as the story goes on. When Death appears here it seems an outrage rather than a threat. Mainly because of the calm ambience of the space. And Artemy has never been here before- meanwhile his old house is horrible. Home is something you bring with you.

It made me really happy that they decided to call it "Murky's friend" the first time you talk to it in the lair. Great storytelling can combine comedy and tragedy seamlessly.
