I like both, but I do like these chill couch videos because I can more easily see what everyone is doing. My ear isn't great, so if I'm trying to listen to what one of them in particular is doing, I find it easier if I can watch their lips while I'm listening.

Yay. Thank you for reacting to this one. Mitch's vocals are insane. I also love the swells. I'm hoping that you'll get to their "New Rules" x "Are You That Somebody" mash-up and La La Latch mash-up soon. Pretty sure both are going to blow your mind. And I'm eager to see that. 😂😉

Strip back vs. production is a hard question to answer...and I really think it depends on the song. For covers I think I enjoy stripped back because we already know the produced version. Then at the same time I am 100% ok with the originals to have a little bit more...make them the absolute best version of the songs they wrote...don't know if that makes sense?

Definitely PenTatonix. It's nice that you asked. I definitely prefer the up close in personal couchy videos because it shows their awesome talent much better than an over-produced video. I've seen them do this live a couple of times and I'm always amazed at both Mitch's vocal ability to copy the "chop", as well as they syncrasation at the end. And, I love Avi's base drop too. LOL

Mitch’s timbre is due to him possessing a rare, true counter-tenor voice. To have TWO comparatively rare voice-types in the same band is remarkable (Avi is a true basso profundo). It is something of a miracle that these five extraordinary, lovely people wound up in the same group together! They have been a blessing to us all-for me, 6 years! I even wrote a song for them that I personally delivered to each member at the Tacoma Dome VIP 7-3-19. Sheet music in two keys, piano-voice realizations, a CD performance by my friend, Sunny Wilkinson, a jazz singing beast! Despite Kev, Matt, and Scott enthusiastically promising to listen to the music, I’ve not heard back. I assume their handlers disposed of the music packets and the group never saw them. It’s a shame; my fellow musician friends think the piece is right down their alley! I tried everything I could think of to get the music to PTX, but to no avail. Even my close friend of 60 years-Jim Keltner-couldn’t do it! Funny... though I’ve written a plethora of jazz pieces-vocals and instrumentals-my classical music has seen the most attention. I won the 2013 American Prize for music composition for my “Introspections, Music For Two Classical Guitars”. Hey! Sorry I digressed! When I think of PTX, I go off on a tangent!

I pronounce the T because it honors their choice to be named after the pentatonic scale. I prefer the stripped down, one-take couch performances because we can really get up close and see how they put together their individual singing styles into a unified performance. Having said that, I realize that PTX makes great decisions on which songs are made into "couch" videos and which ones need full set/costume/choreo etc. so I have no complaint.

I like it all, the costumes, the locations, the rolling couch, the snow falling up, the blue eye contacts, and Matt's smile. I like how they can do so many different types of music. Many of their covers I hadn't heard the originals. I had known Queen, Simon and Garfunkel, Michael Jackson, and the Beatles of course but not some of the others. I like their originals. I think they just get better and don't wish they would go back to earlier years.

I also wanted to address the lyrics comment. I’ve noticed that observation from other reactors and myself included. PTX sings with such clarity and strong pronunciation-often times original artists get drowned out with all the instruments/backup singers in addition to the original artist not singing their own song clearly.

This is part of why I enjoy their music so much... I can understand what they're singing! That being said, I've found Scott has 'softened' his enunciation a little in recent years, often dropping the ends of words. Not sure if he's exploring a more personal 'sound', but I do prefer the crisper lyrics they usually deliver.

Daaaaaaarrrrrrn! This was a great one! Impeccably executed. And, as totally outstanding the vocals are, Avi and Kevin BROUGHT IT to this song! I truly like all their songs, but these type of intimate videos are a lot more pleasing to me. Live recordings made from the audience with a cellphone just don't cut it, but hearing it through the sound system gives a different but still very enjoyable alternative to the studio versions. I like it when they are just standing and singing, such as Imagine, or when they do elaborate scenes like My Favorite Things.

I personally like the less produced more intimate videos because 1. I can see what each member is doing and put that to each sound. sometimes I'm like was that Kevin or Avi. It's nice to be able to see each person's mouth and what they are doing. 2 The members seem more relaxed and having more fun in the less produced videos. You can see them truly enjoying the music in the way they move to the beat.

I love the stripped back versions. I am amazed at how they do what they do and at how beautiful it sounds. These versions let me see what is going on and that's my favorite part. Its the reason I love Avi's acoustic versions of his songs best of any of the solo work any of them do. His voice is astonishingly clean, controlled and luxurious. It gives me chills to listen to him just sing.

Honestly I can't pick one style above the other. I think they are so good at entertaining and seem to just know what style to do with each of their songs. I absolutely love their older couch evolution of...... videos as well as the more produced videos such as "My favorite things" or even their on location videos like "Amazing Grace" as well as the Brady bunch style in separate boxes.. I have never seen one of their videos that the style of production is off or doesn't mesh with the song. They are so creative and I love them all... so I cannot choose a favorite..... I also love watching their live video performances. You just can't say that PTX is boring!

For me, it depends on the song, and how it feels when I watch it - with something like "Problem", "Royals", or "Hallelujah" I enjoy the production. All of the Popspring originals, I prefer Popspring to the official video or studio track, because the sound quality is still good and I get to see their live delivery of the song.

Most tend to soften the first 't' in Pentatonix....at least all my friends and fellow fans do. Secondly, I really can't choose between highly produced videos and "live" ones. I love them both. It's great that they can compete in the music world with the productions and yet, we get to see that their talent is absolutely real in the live shots. Sso...not gonna be able to give you a definitive answer on that.

As a singer, I prefer the less produced videos. They don't need all the echo and effects and fill that some of the newer videos have. Also, I pronounce the T, as in pentagram, because it refers to there being 5 of them. Love your reactions, and that you are reacting to both old and new songs. For a change of pace, and some humor, check out PTX Thrift Shop.

So far I've liked all the professional choreographed videos they've done for PTX, but there is always a place in my heart for the couch scenes. It feels like you're there with them, maybe helping out with something. Some are both, "Havana" for instance. They're just sitting, but the camera is moving around getting closeups and backoffs, always on the primary singer as opposed to the stationary camera across the room.

Thank you for reacting to this one - it is one of my favorites because it illustrates everything I love about Pentatonix (I usually pronounce the ‘t’, or just call them PTX): their vocal talent, their confidence in and familiarity with each other, and their hard work - I don’t care how talented you are, nobody just sits down and makes something that amazing with no effort. I’m not sure I can pick the style of video I prefer, this style shows exactly how talented they are, but I also like the creativity and artistry in their more produced ones.

I have to honestly say that I love both the stripped back and the produced tracks. It may sound like a cop out, but I truly do. As a choir girl I love being able to hear their raw, bare talent in the stripped back stuff. But I also deeply appreciate that Pentatonix is literally pushing the boundaries of vocal music by producing their vocals in really cool, unique, interesting ways and bringing them into the modern pop scene. Love it!

I also like the less produced videos-you get to hear them "live" so to speak. In this video, I particularly LOVE the dynamic swells they do. They never just "sing" a song. I’ve been waiting for you to see this one. It’s just amazing how Mitch can pull off what the original artist could only do using technology with just his voice. My answer to which do I like better is I don’t like either better I like each one for different reasons. I like the live videos because it shows off their virtuosity and a lot of people don’t believe how good they really are. I like the produced videos because it shows off their artistic side in a visual way and can show off aspects of their voices that can’t be captured in a live video.

Whenever I have 2 hard consonants in back-to-back syllables, I usually soften the first or else it makes pronunciation more difficult. For example, a hard "T" would be "Hit" or Tools." A soft "T" would be "Soften", "Often" or "Listen". So, for me, I pronounce them "PEN-NA-TONIX" -- two N's together for a harder "N" between the first and second syllables making up for the almost silent "T". I like all their videos, especially where the subject matter is very simple, but the video recording and editing drive the song. When transitions, "Brady Buch" grids, and visuals keep the beat and follow the progression and regression of the song's intensity, it makes a more complementary visual. I've created low-budget music videos to show off collages (slide shows) of group's members and events. i made sure the transition of the pictures -- all stills -- were in sync with the beat AND WORDS. I like a blending of visual, musical and lyrical transitions so the viewer feels all of it as a flowing, well planned movement rather than a separate video and audio track simply edited for start and end times. One thing about this YT video. Your own voice was 1/3 the volume I think it should have been. It was super soft compared to most YT videos I'd just watched (had to increase volume a LOT to hear you). But when the music video played, it was blasting me out. Need to balance your audio with the music video's audio so the volumes are close. If not, I have to leave your volume way down so I miss all of your commentary. Just a hopefully constructive criticism. I like your reaction videos, since I, too, am a PENTAHOLIC.. (In that case, I do pronounce the "T", but as a softer "T"", like "Penthouse"). Ever wonder why "Penthouse" isn't pronounced "PEN-THOUSE", with a "th" sound? :)

I enjoy both, for different reasons. The videos that are more produced I feel lend a sensation of being transported. The less produced videos like this one are more intimate. The less produced videos are, in part, why I believe we feel a connection to the members. We see them as real individuals with real talents and vulnerabilities. The more produced videos accentuate the beauty and talent of their voices and provide a scenic splendor which promotes a short escapism if you will. It also allows and promotes another element of creativity. Either way its a win!!!!!

I most love the stripped down couch songs, especially for the covers. It totally highlights their talent and versatility. Don't get me wrong I love the fully produced music too but If someone asked me If i wanted to hear their "Thrift Shop" or one of their other early vids like "Starships" I'd go with the couch every time. I love how they reinvent so many of the songs they cover. The biggest exception to that is their original music. I'll choose original PTX over any cover any time! A lot of their original music hits me more deeply; whether on dance track like "Love Again" or a slow emotional song like "Light in the Hallway" or "Standing By." I think they are better songwriters than a lot of pop music out there. It always makes me sad when folks call them a cover band. They are missing sooo much.

I like the live versions more. It makes it feel more intimate and personal. They sound amazing any way you listen, but the live performances are easier to connect to emotionally. That being said, their recorded version of Hallelujah gets me in the feels. Also, although their covers rock, their original music feels more personal.

I prefer the older less produced videos, they’re almost like a spontaneous jam session. It’s like being there. Love all of their stuff though. Love your reviews too 😃

I like both less produced videos and other that had great production, in this especial case I love that you could see what everybody is doing, in other videos they put who is singing and you don't saw what the others are doing to produce that sound

I like the couch videos. I love being able to concentrate on each of them. Especially Avi and Kevin. Their parts often don't show in the more produced videos. Seems Kevin lifts his hands just as the camera pans and his mouth is covered for that instant.

I definitely prefer the less produced videos because the tend to give a more intimate view of the members and are live performances which I absolutely love ❤ .....I especially love watching Avi perform live!

I would say that they really have three styles... "fully produced music videos" albeit in their cut-back, elegantly simple style; "fully produced sound on a couch" like this, Havana, New Rules, etc; and "raw audio on a couch" like The Evolution of ______, Thrift Shop, etc. Of those three, I much prefer the first two. I like produced sound, I'm sorry. I like clear, clean, crisp sound, engaging video, punchy lows, equalizers, reverbration, compression... I mean, really, I'm pretty sure everybody does. Some people just pretend otherwise... and then go buy produced albums and listen to produced songs on the radio. Or... y'know, the internet analogues thereof. Between full music videos and produced audio on a couch, it's hard to choose. I enjoy both for very different reasons. Their full music videos are always creative, restrained, and entertaining. But I always appreciate just being able to watch an artist actually perform, unadorned (but with fabulous sound quality). Also, it's worth mentioning that "new" has nothing to do with it. Some of their earliest videos are fully produced music videos and some of their most contemporary ones are raw audio on a couch. It just depends what they felt like (and had time for) at the time. Oh, and there is actually a fourth category: fully produced audio, full stop. They do make videos of some kind for a larger proportion of their work than most artists... but not everything worth listening to of theirs has a video. A lot of great stuff is "CD-only". Or, y'know, the internet analogues thereof.

As an old person, who was passionate about music before the advent of the "music video" I find the big productions to be distracting many times. They're impressive, but for me it's the music. I like their "sitting" on the couch versions or otherwise less produced pieces.

I love the raw ones....until I hear the high production ones.😏 I just always keep in the back of my mind that they can perform any of them live. Valentine's day is around the corner. An oldie but a goodie by them is "Valentine".😊❤

It’s awesome to see what they make when they have a huge budget and lots of production. However, it’s great to get these less produced videos that really shows off how incredible they are. Plus this is their roots. They didn’t start off with studio backing and big budgets or anything. Hell, their Daft Punk video, which is one of their most popular and most successful, was recorded in a closet on a budget of like $300. So both I guess? 🤣 I like a big production every once in a while, but the couch style one’s are the best imo!

I think I just get something different from both types. The produced ones are nicer to listen to by themselves, so I'll usually go for that version if I'm just wanting the song; especially since I know for a fact they can still sing it live almost identically. But videos I'll often enjoy the warmer, more natural ones because there's almost a bit more connection there, and I can single out who's singing more easily than when the camera cuts away from them. I like to follow Kirstin's parts especially since she's got a very warm tone and sometimes it's hard to separate out her lower range in produced songs/videos unless she's leading.

Thanks for doing this one. It is one of my favorites of theirs, and I still don't think I ever heard the original (nor do I want to). I do prefer these more simple sitting around singing ones to the hyped up ones most of the time as I feel it lets us really hear the individuals better without being distracted by the video stuff. There are a few exceptions - like Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk and Love Again.

Firstly - Thank you Jacob for yet another awesome PTX reaction - much appreciated ! I pronounce both 'Ts'.... and whilst I love everything that they do, I prefer the stripped back, less produced tracks because it lets me envision what they would sound like live (I mean to be there at an actual concert, I've heard/seen all of their live performances ) - Living literally over the other side of the world it seems sometimes like their stripped back stuff is as close to a live concert that I might get ! (They did come to Oz in Feb 2020, but not to my side of the island and it is exorbitantly expensive for us to travel interstate here ) Maybe next time !!!
