Getting the square root doesn't mean you square a number but instead raise it to one half

You do know though that everytime you square an unknown you lose a solution? This also the same reason why we don't "cancel out " unknowns. the solution we lose from squatng the unknown is -1/9 . if we let y = x^0.5 instead, we solve this as a quadratic equation without losing the solution. Forgive me I'm a purist I mean no harm.
