It’s wild how easily things can be faked these days. Years ago I unknowingly bought a fake bottle of expensive cologne and wouldn’t have realized it (other than it not lasting lol) if not for honest content like yours. As for wearing fake gold or costume jewelry regularly, I personally don't. I’d rather invest in something genuine that will last and hold its value over time. I did grab a fake gold chain once for a Halloween costume, and my friends said it looked good on me, which made me want the real deal even more. Once I went solid gold, I’ll never go back. I love the confidence of knowing my jewelry is legit. Thanks for keeping us informed and protected. - Harrison V. Columbus, OH

I love the logo for Linx the color blue and the shirts you guys have. You always sell high quality gold no matter if it’s from linx or the jacoje website. I only buy real gold because costume jewelry fades if it’s plated and turns gray. Also there is no resale value in costume jewelry. With real gold you can always sell your pieces if you need in an emergency. Chris from Maine here keep doing your thing guys your business rocks.🎉

We are slowly replacing our costume jewelry with solid gold pieces from Jacoje and Linx. We feel like this will allow the pieces to be passed down for generations and hold more sentimental value each time. That being said costume jewelry has its place. It's great for younger people without the funds or for trying a new style before you spend thousand on the real deal. I have been looking for an anchor and would love that pendant to rock with my Franco from you! Brennen J NC

I appreciate you guys putting in all the work to ensure that the pieces that go out are authenticated as real, and good quality. Regarding fake gold, I don’t personally wear it or buy it. I just believe that gold is king and will last forever; therefore, I’d rather save my money and buy the real thing as opposed to spending money on something that won’t last. No matter how good a fake chain is, there is going to come a time when it breaks, tarnishes, or the gold coating gets super dull. But, I will say that the piece that means the most to me is a sterling silver ring that I received after my aunt passed. So, at the end of the day, people wear jewelry for all types of reasons. As long as it looks good, they feel confident, then rock whatever you want to rock!

Buying fake jewelry if you can’t afford the more pricey pieces is OKAY. But i personally believe buying real gold is the way to go, especially if you love the quality of it and love to pass down jewelry. Thank you for all your work and happy holidays to all .

I think there is definitely some merit in fake/plated/costume jewellery in a couple of scenarios. First, a low cost way of finding out if a piece suits you or gels with you before making an investment. And second, my own personal experience is that it’s not always easy to get to a jewellery store to try a piece on or they don’t have the design you are looking for. I found buying a few cheap plated chains really helped me decide on the size and thickness I wanted and also I could keep them on for much longer and try different looks than I could in a store. Sentimental value, not so much but definitely a practical purpose. Sam L Manchester, UK

My feelings on fake jewellery have changed over the years. My first few chains were plated, but nowadays I’d NEVER be caught dead with one, ha. When I was a teenager I thought real chains were always thousands of dollars, so mostly unobtainable as a 15 year old. Then, I remember one day walking into a jewellery store with my friends on our lunch break, and seeing a 24” 14k 4mm hollow rope chain for ~$800. I told my friends “when my music starts making me money I’m going to come and buy that!”. Sure enough, about 5 years later as soon as I sold my first few beats I did just that. I’d love to say that’s the story of my first real chain, but technically it was the second one haha. That did make me elevate my standards and go for 14k minimum on my later purchases, now the goal is to get a solid version of it. Winning that anchor would be awesome! I was born in a small fishing town & it would remind me so much of home! Jeremy S B Pointe-Claire, Qc, Canada

I bought "gold plated" bralettes and necklaces from a large well known bulk supply chain store. I look at them as starter jewelry for my kiddos my kiddos. Since I was a teenager I've had some kind of "gold" watch, which is what inspired me to pursue getting a couple chains. Also thanks for keeping us more informed and educated about gold quality ,wear and tear, and what to look for in a piece of jewelry.

I have two stories about “fake” or costume jewelry. First, as a kid I saw my Dad wearing a subtle gold chain every day. Over the years I developed a bias toward that type of chain as my role model wore it all the time. Later in life I found out that it was costume jewelry, but it didn’t change the way I felt about that style of chain - so a piece of “fake” jewelry had sentimental value. Second, while trying to figure out the type and size of chain I want to wear, I’ll buy a costume piece with the same specs. For a fraction of the price I get to see how a chain looks/feels without a significant commitment. But once I know I like it…I go for gold!

I'm impressed that fake gold has gone unnoticed until a certain point. I'm glad you were able to test it thoroughly. Always check your gold 👍 as for the fake gold, I get it if it's sentimental but for me I'd have to pass on not buying nor wearing it as I am allergic to most metals used in fake jewlery and hate my skin turning greenish as well as how it irritates my skin.

No, personally I would not wear it nor would I judge someone else for wearing it (maybe there some certain family value or the person's income). One reason I would not is because im allergic to certain metals, in high school I bought some cool bling silver earrings at the mall and (shop owner told me it was silver). I don’t consider fake gold or plated gold jewelry monetarily valuable but there can be some sentimental value. I was passed down what appeared to be a 14kt gold necklace from my grandmother after she passed away and so I wore it daily but noticed the color starting to fade rather quickly and so I took it to a local jeweler to get his opinion and he confirmed that it was plated. I still wore the piece for a bit until the gold plating completely washed away only because the piece had immense sentimental value attached to it as it was my late grandmas. Keep up the good work as always!

I think there’s tiers to “fake” jewelry and what I would be comfortable in wearing. I was gifted a stainless steel chain that I do wear when I want to add a little something to an outfit just to make it pop more. It’s subtle and just an accessory to me. What I would never wear is something being passed off as something else like those cheap gold colored chains that feel plasticky and the color is coming off on them. In terms of gold plating I feel like it’s more acceptable for women jewelry because box stores sell those types of necklaces. For guys it’s a different story since we typically want to wear something more flashy and bigger. Personally I would only do gold plated sterling silver and would clarify if ever asked about my chain. The bad rep for fake jewelry is bc of those people who try to brag and show it off as if it was real and expensive. So as long as you’re honest with yourself I don’t see the problem with wearing whatever you like. Homar F McAllen, Tx

I personally feel it depends on a person and what you want to do it with the jewelry. If it's fake and it's just to get a feel without dropping a bag, then costume jewelry has some merit. That could be better saved for actual gold and diamonds and then at least you would have equity in the jewelry. Brian N Westminster, CA

Costume jewelry would be a no for me but I’d never knock down someone’s families passed down jewelry even if it is fake. As for silver, I’ve made some Muslim friends who all wear silver and one day asked, why they don’t wear gold? They said it was against their religion and I was very shocked and although it was different to me. I didn’t judge. They did say it was permitted for women to wear gold. If you can't afford a gold chain then you can always save up to get what you like. When I was younger I wanted a Miami Cuban so bad but couldn’t afford one, so I rocked a gold over silver one for a while, while I saved for my first legit one. So it definitely has its place for people who want a specific look but I personally even then wouldn’t go for anything lower quality than real gold vermeil because at least silver is decent jewelry still at the end of the day, that won’t stain your next green and will have SOME amount of value. Nowadays since I can afford it, it’s all 14k and up solid gold but costume jewelry will always have its place in the market. If it isn’t gold or silver there will be next to zero resale value, but someone who received it as a gift could still view it as valuable sentimentally. Plus plenty of people just wear jewelry for the look. For someone like that, even something with a brass base may be good enough. That person isn’t me but I get it! Daniel V Manchester NH

No offense to those who do, but I don’t buy plated jewelry simply because I don’t like to waste money. I recently learned that plated/gold-filled/vermeil jewelry can sometimes have the 14K/18K/22K, etc. stamps on them. It’s a very shady and deceptive practice to do this because manufactures or jewelers who add those stamps have full knowledge of those pieces not being real. New and unseasoned customers are who they are looking to fool. My advice, if the price is too good to be true or if the seller pressures you to buy it, WALK AWAY. Also, if you have any doubts about any jewelry you currently have go to a local jeweler and have it tested. Wana W. SC, USA

One of the pieces was a Franco styled chain and turned in one day! Luckily the party I bought it for was in dark lighting haha but I was really upset when I got home and my chain had gone from a rich color to bronze😅. The other piece use to leave green residue on my skin and that’s when enough was enough, and have only worn real gold since. Yeah but depends on quality and material, gold filled or plated silver is a great starting point and can fill the void of heavier and crazy expensive solid gold pieces.

I personally don’t buy costume jewelry, but I would 100% wear it,if it was gifted to me by a loved one. I would wear it proudly as it was real gold. I only gift loved ones real gold jewelry, because I love seeing there eyes light up when they open the jewelry box. Not only are they happy but they have something that they can treasure, and pass down from generation to generation Fernando H Fairburn, Ga

Costume jewelry can be great if you’re looking for a one time special piece for an event. It can look nice and fill its purpose. However my everyday wear has to be solid gold for me, I want the longevity and durability of the piece. So I guess depending on what it’s for yes I’d buy costume. Andrew D. Terryville, Connecticut

Me personally I don’t buy much gold but i could only wear real gold. I save up for solid pieces that I know will last all day wear for my lifetime and hopefully my children’s. The only way I’d wear costume jewelry is if it was a gift from someone close to me

I wouldn’t buy/wear costume jewelry personally because I believe jewelry is prestigious and holds a certain level of status (because it used to be worn by royalty and wealthy people) . So when you try and replicate the look with lesser materials , people who are familiar with the look and feel of real jewelry can tell the difference . Some people don’t mind if people know their jewelry is fake and that’s ok for those individuals , but I wouldn’t wear anything fake . Even silver is costume jewelry to me because they dip it in rhodium to make it shine like white gold and the rhodium wears off and the shine becomes dull when the actual silver bleeds through . Or they vermeil it with gold or rose gold . I feel like that is a level of deception . Because yellow silver or rose silver aren’t real metals 😂 they’re all plated to look like gold because at the end of the day gold IS the gold standard !

In my personal opinion I believe “costume jewelry” is for that purpose and is there to be used a such, “costume jewelry” but is it worth it, no. Buying a real piece that will last you a lifetime is of course always worth it and it’s hard to make sense of someone passing a fake piece down with out knowing it’s fake, if my family passed me down a piece of jewelry that was fake yes I would keep it and not sell it for the sentimental value is high and the actual value of the piece is low I personally could not wear it but I would store it away and have it be a decorative piece instead. Costume jewelry - hell no! I do think as a man it seems way less conventional, places like Aldo and similar quality box stores heavily market costume jewelry to women. I always discourage my wife not to waste money on the $10 jewelry, but at the same time if you’re going for a certain aesthetic or look as a one off or don’t intend to wear it long term, perhaps it makes more financial sense not to drop hundreds or thousands on an accessory.. to each their own! If it’s a daily piece though, don’t think I could justify it. Tristan F Mississauga ON Canada

Im not buying costume jewelry ever. It's either steeling silver, sterling silver/gold plated or gold jewelry period. I'm not a person that can wear a brass or copper base chain. Yes costume jewelry has a person and a place It's useful. As far as if i got handed down a sentimental piece of jewelry I'd keep it in the safe locked up because i wouldn't want it to get lost, broken or stolen. John K. Springfield, IL

I personally don’t like fake jewelry. Those of us who wear real jewelry spend a lot of money to purchase something of value. People wearing fake jewelry for costumes is one thing but to walk around with a gold chain on your neck “pretending” it’s real is kinda sad. To each their own but I just don’t think it’s fair to those of us who work hard to buy something of value. Jesse W Roseburg, OR

I do not consider that costume jewelry valuable nor would I wear it mainly because I’m allergic to fake jewelry and then secondly because I prefer authentic jewelry

I love real gold. As much as my modest dream chain has escaped me, I would not rock fake gold. Costume jewellery is fine but it's an individual preference. I'd rather go without until I am in a position to purchase a high quality 14k Jacoje piece. Until that day.... love the videos. Informative as ever. 🙏

It’s definitely possible to have sentimental value in a plated item or jewelry just not in my case I always stated with real silver and moved up to gold when I had the cash most people start low and move up to some big Cuban links or francos Cesar S Everett WA

As a consumer that loves gold. The name says it all costume jewelry. Fools gold has no value plus its fades away over time and turns ur neck green. Gold holds its value and luster over time. So fake jewelry is not worth the investment or time trying to buy it. Tyrone T. Salt Lake City,UT

Costume jewelry is a no for me. Sometimes i feel as if it's best suited for Halloween purposes, like being a famous mainstream rapper flashing all his "bling bling. Or for kids to wear if the real deal is out of reach for them financially. There's nothing wrong if some of those jewelry that isn't legitimately gold or silver if it has sentimental value. The one thing i find disturbing about that pendant at the beginning of the video is that it contains some Pb, which is lead. Toxic metals in jewelry is a big no-no. Especially with the trace of nickel found in the "fake gold" chain as well. Green necks and irritation is always not fun as well.

Personally I don't see the point in spending money on gold that eventually wears out. If you are buying it, you probably like the way it looks, but how many times are you going to have to buy the same piece to maintain the look? It is completely understandable that buying a piece of gold involves a monetary effort but I prefer to save and have something that is worth what I am paying. Jay P Atl Georgia.

Personally, I definitely would not buy fake jewelry just for every day wearing issues like your neck turning green, etc. but I understand when people don’t have enough income to afford gold jewelry so I’m OK with it as long as it fits their budget. I won’t wear gold if it was fake but I’d keep it for the sentimental value. Funny story I gave my wife a necklace that was my great grandmother’s on our wedding day in September. The only thing I know is the necklace was my great grandmother’s. Now every time I see my wife with the necklace I get nervous it’ll turn her neck green because I don’t know if the necklace is real or not Roy Gonzalez Roseville California

Its not worth it, why spend any money on something that WILL fade and be thrown away. If you cant afford a solid gold chain then save up for one. It looks super fake when you wear it because the chain doesn't move around like real gold. It holds no resale value too, no jeweler is going to waste their time to extract the gold out of something plated, thats why the best term to describe gold plated is by calling it costume jewellery. Buy something real with great quality and be proud to wear it. David C Bear, Deleware USA
