Jack Rabbit duh, but these guys literally cut and paste stuff. There's trying to have your sound that's influenced by stuff and then there is literally copying the same thing. This guy just tries to sound like Mic Jagger so hard and then tries to sound like Ray Davies and now he's on a Todd Rundgren tip. They just never found their sound imo, they continue to be just a paying homage band. Like how many people can we sound like, it gets annoying after third album.

If you can trace influences that well I would relish in it and not complain that they are ripping people off directly (I would not suggest NOT listening to Girl Talk if that bothers you lol). I think if we all knew all of our artists' influences well enough we would find they all do that... It could even be subconsciously honestly. many are referencing Dylan and the Beatles, which I hear, but I also get a Pink Floyd vibe. that's what I love about this band, an eclectic mixture of influences seamlessly comes together. in the singer's voice I hear Iggy Pop Lou Reed Bowie and Mick Jagger all in the same line

Look people who keep complaining about Foxygen ripping off other people's music: Every musician rips off other musicians to some extent. The Stones ripped off American musicians such as Muddy Waters, and Chuck Berry. The Beatles lifted riffs from Elvis, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, etc. Woody Guthrie, Carl Perkins, Pete Seeger and a whole shitload of others influenced Bob Dylan. Frank Zappa took other people's songs all the time and ran them through his genius brain until he got you to beg for more. That's what musicians do, they build on what's been done, they take sounds and shape them into their own sound. That's what music is, people. That's what Foxygen does, and they do it damned well.

Stephen Jervis It's true the Beatles were inspired by Dylan's song with chord progression and loose melody but the arrangement and feel were completely different. This song is certainly referencing the Beatles song by drawing directly from the chord progression, melody, as well as the arrangement & feel.

God damn this band has something so raw and pure but I have to admit these guys need to pause on the acid, it makes their writing style and verses linger longer than they should, likely fixating on states they're in for too long which takes away from the pop feel and thus limits their audience and exposure. If this band had more technical talent, they'd be a jam band, but they don't quite have that so they're forced to linger. They're so close to being throwback psychedelic pop hits and it's so close to enchanting me, but just not quite there... Take a few weeks off and go into the woods and build something you care about. Burn it. Come back, and write a fucking masterpiece.

LIke their sad attempt at trying to sound like Suicide, or trying to do a Link Wray jam and then crossing over to artificial drone; all of this really changes the album's credibility from cool to just a bunch of kids trying to sound like stuff.
