PLEASE NOTE - this car sold within a week or so, new owners are fair dinkum car enthusiasts and so we'll get to see her around.
I'm selling my Jag mk5 - this has been our family car for special events for twenty years. It was built to be completely reliable with a few minor mods like extra fan cooling and sports air cleaners, stainless lined brake cylinders, new wiring, all new rubbers etc etc. A lot of money spent over a lot of years but now the kids have grown we don't use it anymore.
It's low mileage - 78,000 - and completely original leather and timber interior, a bit worn in places as you'd expect from a 70 year old car. I didn't want to restore inside, it's too original, but the outside was a different matter. No rust, just sun damage.
Get in touch through the comments if you're seriously interested. Otherwise this clip will serve to remind me of what I had. Getting it together was the biggest achievement of my mechanical life. Something I wanted from the age of 10. It feels like you've stepped back into the best part of 1950 and it drives brilliantly.

Don't think I've ever heard the words totally reliable and Jaguar used in the same sentence before. A schoolmate had one of these left to him (late 60's) when his grandfather died - as poverty ridden 18 year olds we couldn't afford to drive it far because it drank like a sailor on leave. I'm tipping none of them ever had high mileage, due partly to fuel use and partly due to never arriving reliably. They were good to look at though, and when running the ysound great.

Yes, that one was free - this one is reliable. They're not complicated machines, only a crossflow pushrod six with a couple of SU's - like a hot rod FJ. Sorted and tuned thay're not even that bad on fuel - slightly thirstier than a Holden 6, less than a v8. They're not that heavy, even though they look it - I guess I can't help defend Jags, had a lifetime of the old girls and love them. I have only done an oil and fluid change in the last 4400 miles, about six years of fun. But I'd get in it and drive ot to Perth - and back.

I’ll take it mate !!! I’d love to see how it would handle the OTT 🤣👍 nah jokes aside mate, bloody magnificent !! Cars of today just don’t have the elegance, style or panache of these classics. I can’t see a new current model Camry or Accord look that stylish in 50 years - if they let that long that is .... great stuff Roothy, you should be proud mate 👍🇦🇺

Have you seen the 1927 Austin Swallow that did the Cape first motorised trip? So yes - but you'd need some mates to carry it...

I recall my dad having a mk5 jag (not running) stored in our neighbours back shed. Looked exactly the same as this except for the rear doors - “they use to open backwards” (that’s what I called it at the time). Was this known for the mk5 jags¿

I’m not sure i like the idea of downsizing if it means losing the things I enjoy
@JOHNROOTHROOTHY
@JOHNROOTHROOTHY 2 жыл бұрын
Downsizing is something you never think about until it hits you - either thru age or family or income. But it's inevitable eventually for everyone. Just got to make the best of it - like everything in life. Whooeee, good thing it's friday, I'm thirsty.
