Why use a hand held puller on the pulley flange when you have a shop press? If you have the proper hollow drift as shown in the workshop manual and press out the pump bearing on the outer race, the entire assembly including the impeller will part without damage. The same hollow drift should be used for installing the new bearing and shaft assembly. Also, I don't think it's advisable to paint the inside of the casting which will eventually flake and pollute the coolant. Also, how are you setting the shaft depth and impeller clearance? TIA

Are use the hand puller because not everyone has a press it shows them how it can be done without a press, as for the paint perhaps you’ve never used Glyptal it bonds to the metal and will not flake it is used on lots of engine applications including all the oil ways it does not come off then and it certainly won’t come off with coolant. The shaft depth it’s self is determined by the grub screw that locates in a hole in the shaft it cannot go in any other position.

Not sure when you made this video but would you happen to have any water pumps for a '53 XK120 DHC?

Unfortunately I believe the XK120 has a different style pump and I only have the style shown in the video, try Richard Michael Owen he works on a lot of XK's . owenauto.ca/

I am close to Phoenix AZ, most of the ‘stuff’ I do is via mail, but love working on classics Jaguars that come to me.

Hi Gary, interesting as I am yet to rebuild a water pump! I can't seem to find the trade name Glyptal on the UK EBay but it is is on UK Amazon at GBP99!!. What type of paint is it? Do you know of a UK equivalent? Thanks, Tony
@jagvette13 жыл бұрын
wow that's expensive I know i bought some when I lived in England but cannot remember the name, the only thing I can suggest is to google 'internal engine paint' and see what comes up, it's an enamel based paint but obviously has some special stuff in it. also try Moss they may have it cheaper.

@Doctor MENGELE good to know I assume you mean in the UK

@Doctor MENGELE Yes Por is popular and great, not sure if they do internal engine paint.

@Doctor MENGELE Yes that's why I use it, although I do not race I do drive rather fast :))
