Jaguar XK120 engine first start

thevintageline... This car has been under restoration since the early 80's involving at least three different owners. 40 years under restoration! amusing in a way. So much effort, so much money and time spent, so many dreams dreamed. I recently acquired the project and hope to be the one to finish it ( the intentions of all the others involved I am sure!). It is somewhat spooky to be able to piece together the history of the project looking at the newspaper dates some of the parts were wrapped in. It is exiting to be able to hear the engine run after so many decades.

The XK-140 was the cream of the crop...C-Type engine...overdrive more leg room, rack and pinion steering...nicer horn button...etc

I hope you'll respond. How did you get the xk started from under the hood?

If you have an original starter solenoid you can just push the button on the end of it to engage the starter motor.

@@Porsche9elfer is the starter solenoid the solenoid that's next to the first carburetor? That solenoid is black with a metal bracelet over it, but I can't find a button there.. But maybe I'm looking at the wrong place

@@MrZaadlob No, that is the solenoid for the starting carburetor. The solenoid for the starter is bolted to the firewall close to the starter with the large battery cables going to it. There may be a button on the end if original. Newer solenoids do not have the button.
