Happy new year for 2021. Due to not being able to get out for drives and meets, I decided to spend some time doing some jobs which I'd not got round too.
Not a detailed guide or perfectly edited video but I swap out the factory Pirelli PZero's for some fresh Mitchellin Pilot sport 4 S's.
New rear 276mm Pagid discs and Mintex Pads.
For the XKR-S and later XKR's, the front brake rotors are 380mm with dual 42mm pistons as part of a floating calliper.
I change the rears, which are 376 single 45mm piston floating calliper which require a caliper wind back tool.
Discs sourced from: www.carparts4l...
The pads are different for the XKR-S, part no. C2P25493 found at www.britishpar...
The caliper piston is taken of with 2x 7mm allen bolts.
New wheel nuts and missing dust caps replaced.
Thank you for the subscribers and support to date. Much more to come dependant on what can be done!

Nice review. I've had my XKR for over 7 years and 180,000 miles. It is far and away the best automobile of over 30 I've owned in 50+ years of driving. It still looks and drives like new, has been to the track dozens of times, and has been so reliable. It was so good and enjoyable that I essentially stopped driving my Pantera until I could make it a more enjoyable, comfortable, reliable experience. Jaguar did a great job on these cars and their bargain basement prices right now should make them very, very attractive to buyers looking for a quality, luxury, GT that can bring it when you step on the happy pedal. Enjoy!

Why not mention the cost of the disc’s and pads replacement. Just change mine in a main dealership. So would have been interesting to compare costs.

Good info. I have a 2011 XKR 68000 miles. love it. Good idea to brush the wheel arch liner. I do however have a slight squeak, off side rear when i first apply the brake, then it goes. A bit annoying but it is what it is!

Thanks John. Glad you are enjoying the R. My brakes can be loud at first application. Not always a sign or symptom of something wrong. Presume they arnt scorned? Bring on the sunny driving weather!

I keep hearing the 4Ss are the ones to go for, and what I'll be having when I get to the cloth. You didn't get that orange vintage Draper socket set on eBay did you? My wife sold my Dad's old one a while back 😄

Tyres are always key to the driving experience, which alot of people don't concider. Hehe Not this one - The Socket set has been in the family for decades! Let us know how you get on with the 4 S's. Not too sure what getting to the cloth means!

Hi there how much were the pads and how much were the disc’s great video I paid over £400 for rear pads from Jaguar apparently their special ones not the same as the standard XKR could you offer any information on this cheers
@QuickShiftTV2024
@QuickShiftTV2024 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie. I've just put a link to the pads and discs in the description for you. Mine comes in cheaper than that, but with Jaguar doing it for you, you know it will have been done right and the jaguar paper work to go in the file. Pads were extra cheap but I opted for parts I knew were correct rather than trying to save money. Always nice to work on your own car and tinker with a few bits. The pads are indeed different, as they have the spring clip like I show in the video. Mintex offer a cheaper alternative to ATE.

Did you have to reset the electronic handbrake at all? I gather there's something you need to do to tell the car there's fresh pads???
@QuickShiftTV2024
@QuickShiftTV2024 2 ай бұрын
Nope. As long as you release the calipers with the red chord and place it into the service mode, it will adjust automatically, as it would do as the pads wear down over the life of the pads. Hope that helps 👍

Hi Andrew, love the look of your car. I'm thinking of buying one too but wondering is it a good investment as well as good fun. Did you buy one with the hopes these will appreciate in value over time or just for fun?
@QuickShiftTV2024
@QuickShiftTV2024 2 жыл бұрын
Yes these are certainly going up slowly Parm. The standard XKR have gone up alot, certainly by the online price calculators. I mainly bought mine for fun, with the idea that it may creep up in value. I'd secure a lower mileage blue if you can, as these demand a premium.

Isn’t nuts that the R-S doesn’t come with slotted and drilled rotors? When I run the Tail of the Dragon they definitely heat up.
@cottonbrad
@cottonbrad 3 жыл бұрын
Great video! but, oh those poor beans! LOL Nothing like a truly high speed grind to burn them! Two words, "hand grind", won't heat up the beans that way and allows more of the true flavour of the roast to come through. On another note, how are those pads for dust?
@QuickShiftTV2024
@QuickShiftTV2024 3 жыл бұрын
👍I take your point Brad! I always use just under boiling water to avoid similar issues, so I'll bear your comment in mind. The pads have been good. Minimal dust if atall and pleased with the braking feel, although most effort will come from the fronts. New videos coming soon ✌
@cottonbrad
@cottonbrad 3 жыл бұрын
@@QuickShiftTV2024 I found an antique style ceramic hand grinder after seeing one in Blackhawk Down (of all the places to see one), and verifying the truth of the burning issue. Apparently the built in grinders don't have this issue as they don’t spin fast enough. Ahhhh...coffee... best liquid next to petrol!

@QuickShiftTV2024 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jak! Nope- The discs are in the description. Best price I could find the Pagids. The spring clip on the back of the pad which slides onto the piston comes with the pads, if that's what you mean? These are different to the XKR pads and are also in the description. Hope this helps. Happy braking!

Considering buying one here in Guatemala 🇬🇹. Hows the car reliability? Where I can find spare parts online (brakes, timing belt, water pump, etc? Do you think the car is to low (ground clearance)? I want to move from a Megane RS to this Jag but I wanted to know a little bit more about the maintainance costs.

Don't use copper grease as it just speeds up galvanic corrosion between the alloy and steel and totally the wrong grease to use. Use ceramic brake grease. Using copper grease is a myth that came from the 80s. No decent mechanic uses it.
