I have an '09 XKR Portfolio model. I bought it for 20k with 50,000 miles. Best car I've ever owned.

You're very welcome, Hugh. I completely agree, to live with and have as a daily driver I would pick the XKR over the E-Type, but it doesn't have everything that makes the E-Type feel special. What I found very surprising was how certain characteristics of it felt very similar, especially the physical design and weirdly, the huge lip by the door that you have to climb over to get in!

You said it didnt seem as fast as you thought it would be, most people including a lot of owners don't realise they have a 2 step throttle peddel, it presses 3 quarters and stops, for full throttle push hard and it clicks past, massive difference from a standing start when doing this. I didn't think my 4.2 xkr felt that fast until I remembered my mates AMG 6.3 having a 2 stage peddle and figured out the Jag was the same, it's a safety feature for wet conditions I'm guessing.

In most cars it acts as a kick down switch, to put it in the lowest gear possible and normally give you full power. What I found with it not feeling as fast as I thought was that the power delivery is exceptionally smooth - the rising speedo definitely shows it is quick! In the era of turbocharging, you typically have your peak torque lower in rev range which gives you that 'shove'. It is refreshing to drive a supercharged car where you have to work it to really achieve the maximum power levels!

The XKR and E Type are completely different beasts. The XKR is far more refined quieter and so much easier to drive. If you are considering buying an XK or XKR get it checked over thoroughly. Apart from brakes and suspension maladies rust can be a major issue. Front and rear chassis are prone to rusting in areas and cause MOT failure. The repair requires the whole subframe to be removed, you are looking at £k's of expenditure. I paid good money, (£12k) for my 2000 XKR after the welding, suspension and brakes had been refurbished by a Jaguar specialist. Within a short period the Air Con failed but since the car was still under their 90 day warranty they replaced the very expensive, radiator/heat exchanger FOC. I have had the car for 10 years and it is a joy own and my wife loves driving it. I have only had to fit a set of coil packs and plugs + several small items. The car is fun to drive and a pleasure to own. Model XKR convertible in Pacific blue with Detroit alloys and Brembo brakes,

You said the are not the most reliable cars, but in fact they are verry reliable, not onely from my own experience (i drive a xkr 2001 daily for more than 6 yeras) but also that of others. This is caused by Ford. Before Ford took over: not so much. I also have a xj-s v12 convertible (1990) for the sunny days, i always feel releived when i am home without breaking it or some disfunction. it's way more expensive to keep it on the road.

You can pick up a ropey XK8 for less than £5k - rust can be a real problem around the sills and rear arches and subframe, so buyer beware. You skipped from the E-Type / XK8 comparison to the F-Type, but don't forget the XK (X150) which has an all aluminium body construction, so less rust issues. If you haven't reviewed one I'd recommend it - the 5.0 litre XKR is a beast

had 3 xjs v12's an xjr and xk8 and xkr, the xkr by far my favorite always best to do the pulley upgrades and run straight pipes, still better looking then most cars on the road even after 20+ years

The dash doesnt look original. In the middle there were either 3 dials or (2001 model - as mine) a screen for sat nav. Otherwise generally agreed. I had exactly that car including the "double five" wheels, only emerald with green roof, from 2002 till 2019. The only car I actually regret selling today.

My XKR is an 03. I love it. I don't agree with your comments on bonnet size and visibility. I see fine out of mine... actually, I was surprised how better the viz was compared to what I anticipated. This is my third yr of ownership and no issues. It did cost a bit for new tires (apparently driving round on 15 yr old rubber is not advised). My wheels are 20 inches which may or may not mean tires are more. Regardless, Tires, oil etc are things that need to be done.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's not hard to see why! It was easy to place and see where the bonnet was, this was my second time behind the wheel and that's the first thing that stuck out to me. After that I didn't find it a hindrance at all and there will be some more content with it in the future, this time with the owner.

I owned a 1998 xkr 2006 xk8 convertible and own a 1994 6.0 xjs ... Xjs is king. Xk8/r is a GREAT car...but lacks exclusive details. Xjs had both, heritage quality exclusivity. The facelift 6.0 xjs is the best Jag.

I've yet to try an XJS, I'm hoping the facelift 6.0 that you mentioned will be on the channel in the near future as a project!

Nonsense. The XJS is inferior to the XK8 in just about every area. They are now so expensive to buy, it makes no sense at all to buy an XJS when the XK8 is far cheaper and much more capable. The 6.0 V12 is a disappointment in terms of power output- very inefficient given it's displacement. The XKR in either 4.0 or 4.2 will spank the V12 6.0.
