Awesome. Took wood shop in high school and the teacher was over my shoulder when I was using the chop saw to make some cuts. Out of nowhere we heard a weird sound coming from the plainer. We both look over and see one of my classmates holding his hand in the air and was just in shock. He was taken to the ER and ended up being fine with only one finger getting damaged. Just goes to show that no matter what you’re doing always be alert and know where your hands are when working with any machinery. I’ll always remember that moment and will probably never forget the sound that came from that machine.

I am sure there are daily reminders for you regarding difficulties, but after watching your more recent videos prior to finding out how you lost some of your digits on here, so glad you are the kind of man that doesn’t let an incident like this hold you back in life. I also lost a finger in the exact same way (luckily only one right hand middle finger) when I was 5 years old… I snuck into my fathers shop while he was working, guard wasn’t on, he had his back turned, I touched the machine, my finger was gone, his heart was broken. My injury was not as bad as yours. My son and Iwere standing on a deck when it collapse under us. The builder only used nails to the header. The worst part was watching him trying to stop the blood coming out of my neck. Fortunately it wasn't a main arteries . Less than a year now but still deal with on some days. You have to much talent and heart to let this stop you. I pray you heal and grateful to hear that you are also. Stay strong and God bless you and your team.

Jamie, I feel your pain. I cut my thumb off with a circular saw while on top of a roof cutting a joist back that was sticking out. The saw binded and kicked back and I had no choice but to stop the saw from hitting me in the stomach with my hand. It happened so fast, I had no time to think. I grew up in a family of house framing contractors and worked on a job site since I was 10 years old and have always been so careful and smart around power tools. Accidents happen to everyone, no matter of skill level or expertise. With all that said, I remember and still cringe ten years later of them removing the gauze and wrapping around my hand because it was so damn painful. I am praying for you and hope you continue to heal quickly and get back to normalcy with work and family life.

I was shocked when I first saw the video that said you were in an accident. If anything this video has made me rethink all the things I’m doing during construction that I could be much safer doing. Like every day at work since your accident I’ve been being super conscious of what I could be doing to make sure I’m safe. So thank you for sharing. I know if you could see into the future that you’d see you’ve prevented 100’s of injuries from people watching this and being extra careful on the job. Been watching the channel for a couple months now ... always wondered about the accident/what happened and now I know. I feel SO fortunate that my construction accident was pretty superficial: Skill Saw to 3x fingers ... but no tendons/ligaments or bone. 20 years later I still have some nerve damage, but MAN was I lucky. I’ve been a huge fan of your videos. I’m a second gen carpenter too. Learned everything from my dad and now I run my own business, focusing on custom cabinets and trim. I’m building a 1200sqft shop currently. I’ve done everything myself. Framing,sheathing,trusses too! I’m working on roof decking now and made a huge mistake by trying to cover decking with paper before a ran shower. I was in a hurry and didn’t tie in because I was going to quickly knock it out(no big deal)! I slipped and fell off the roof 15’ and broke both my legs. It was at the same time you had your accident. I too blamed myself for being careless, I stressed about what my family would do now that I’m in a wheelchair. It’s been 3weeks now and I’m blown away with the support we’ve received from our family and friends. It’s not going to be the same when I get back to work but I’m working hard to get there! I’m sure you will too.

Jaime, keep the faith my friend. Others of us have been where you're at and have overcome. Take the time to learn the new normal and do push too fast. My son was there when I was freehand cutting some rosewood on a table saw for a kitchen project. He ran upstairs... "Mom, dad cut his finger off!" Lucky for me it wasn't as bad as it could have been my finger was going with the blade instead of across the blade. It is numb and will remain numb but it has healed well. It is hard sometimes to know I can't do what I once was able to do. It takes longer and I have to think about it more. But I can still do more than most and what I can't do I can teach others how to do properly. My best advise is, don't limit yourself but know your limitations. Good luck and God's Speed in your recovery.

I just found this channel and was curious what happened. My immediate first thought was a power tool accident ...then I found this playlist. My father is a water well driller and he's almost always on a jobsite alone. He's also a very talented DIYer and has been renovating his house for about 2 years now. My husband is a welder and heavy equipment mechanic and works on mostly CAT equipment (HUGE stuff!). We are also DIYers and recently built our own pole barn construction shop. I just want you to know it going to be along road ahead alot of rehabilitation but you will make it through this man. Just take it one day at a time. I've been praying for you and your family. Keep the smiles buddy. Thanks for documenting this and using it to help teach others. We all feel for you. P.s. red clearance lights of a semi truck trailer work great for that. Not blinding bright while you're working but enough to get your attention. Plus they mount in a grommet that would probably fit nicely in a piece of PVC pipe.
