After 40 years of working with woodworking machinery, I never imagined that this could happen with a jointer. I have an obviously bad habit of running both the jointer and the planer at the same time while processing stock. Now that you've shared your story, I will not do it again. It takes half a second to turn the machine on or off during use. It will obviously take you many months or dare I say years to recover from your injury. Thank you for sharing your story through the pain. It shall not go unheard, or unheeded. I gave what I could to your GoFundMe, but if I can, I will give more next month. Take care, and heal up fast, Jaime. We are all right there with you!

I knicked my right ring finger pulling a board on backside of my table saw. The nerve damage cause what some people call numbness. I actually considering it static noise of the nerve. You eventually stop noticing it all the time and only notice it sometimes. But it will never go away. My injury was small. I can only imagine what Jaime it anyone who has suffered a worse injury goes through. Since then, I've limited my use of the table saw, and have been very aware of my hands and fingers around blades. I'm looking for a new table saw with the safety guards. But I mostly design my projects so I don't need the table saw.

I have never commented on anything before but I feel I might have something of value to say. I got hit in the knee with a stump grinder a little over two years ago. Pulled out my knee cap, broke my femur, and ripped the tendon. Almost lost my leg above the knee. It too was a really preventable accident. But these things happen even to the best of us. Having gone through that I’d say most important thing is to not let the negative thoughts win. I thought I was stupid for standing where I was when I got hit and that I would never work again and that my wife wouldn’t love me if I couldn’t do things. There were times I thought my life was over. But it wasn’t. It wasn’t easy and it was incredibly painful for two years and even now I still get some pain sometimes. I was given very bad reports by the doctors saying I would never be able to bend my knee again and my leg got infected and they had to operate a second time to clean up the infection. So many bad things happened and each time I had to fight out of the dark thoughts and through the pain. But I’m fully functional now. I do physical work for a living too. My knee works about 90% and I can do whatever I want. Just stay strong and work hard. Stay positive and work through the pain. It will be ok. Even if it seems like it won’t. The only way it won’t be ok is if you give up. I love your videos, have watched every single one. Donated some money and bought a shirt. Hope to see you back in the videos soon Jamie!

I've had stuff happen to me that I never saw coming. Everything is fine till it isn't and the utter shock of it blows your mind for a few minutes. Shock is a killer. It's crazy and surreal. Lol. They were able to reattach both fingers, but he ended up getting them removed years later since they both lost mobility and ended up being more of a nuisance having them attached. My biggest regret as his older brother was letting the accident affect his future. He quit playing hockey, as well as some other things. I should have told him that it was no big deal and to not let it get in the way of ANYTHING. The fact that you kept doing what you love and not letting it affect your job, shows your positive attitude and willingness to achieve.

That's brutal bro! Accidents happen man, I once borrowed a drop saw that was already set up by another contractor to cut some skirting boards I'd missed the day before. The bench collapsed midway thru me beginning a cut and nearly cut my hand off. The blade come to rest in the back of my hand. I had my saw in my toolbox just didn't want to lose 10 mins setting it up. It was regrettably avoidable but it happened. I think my pride took a beating that day too. I’m new to you guys’ channel. Only a month or so. I’ve seen Jamie’s hand in a few videos and wondered what happened. Never would have guessed it only happened a short time ago. Incredible recovery and just getting back to work. Some people would have had the same injury and gone on disability for the rest of their lives. ❤️ you guys even more.

Seeing this now is great. I became a fan of the channel recently. That horrible accident didn't slow you down in the long run. You persevered. Good on you. God works in mysterious ways for mysterious reasons. I have a big big big tragedy that happened to me, but I'm back living my life at 97% just like you. We both left a little bit on the field. Don't question fate or the plan. 😇👍🙏

This is really so sad! It is really good to share these things so others may learn. I’ve worked construction for 40+ years and the safety culture has changed for the better and a big reason is because people now are willing to share and look out for others in the process. It all can happen so fast and there are no “do overs”.

New viewer February 2023. It’s impressive how comfortable he is with the prosthetic in only 3 years. Pete from the Tally Ho channel is a double leg amputee, I didn’t even notice until he talked about it. Both of them are inspiring.
