“It’s okay to look fat” isn’t about being fat. He is talking about the diaphragm. Her “Caro Mio Ben” sounds atrocious because she has no breath support. He is telling her it’s okay to expand the abdomen and look fat because that means you are taking in the breath and releasing it appropriately. My vocal coach did the same for me because it’s not uncommon for people to breathe “backwards” (suck in breath bringing abdomen in).

This, yes. My best vocal instructor would have you put your hand on her stomach if you were comfortable with it. She got so tiny but filled herself up so large before singing, so quickly, almost violently- but controlled. You expand a lot when you're properly using your distance to sing. She'd always shake her head when she could tell you were feeling self conscious (defensive posture, crossed arms over a tummy in jeans) and say - "It's okay to look fat. You're going to look fat. Your voice is beautiful, use it."

22:33 I’m thinking what popular artists there were at the time of the movie came out who could pass as teens and had particularly strong voices and could belt. Mandy Moore and JoJo are the only ones who comes to mind who had similar youth appeal to Hilary. And JoJo’s debut single was not released until the month after they already started filming this movie. I think it’d be a stretch for Jessica Simpson or Christina Aguilera to play teens in 2003, as they were sexed-up pop stars by that point. But I guess they could, since Britney played one in 2003. But Christina was in the middle of her Dirrty Xtina era and would have zero interest in playing a wholesome teen Not really a belter, but Amanda Byrnes has a stronger voice than Hilary did too (see Hairspray) A movie this weak needed an established name to have any chance at turning a profit. A lot of movies like this did. I doubt Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen would have had any success if it did not feature Lindsay Lohan red hot off of Freaky Friday success. And nobody would have watched Crossroads without Britney.

Insider knowledge from literally anyone who's ever been in a choral group: choir directors hate stylized shit like the runs and breathy scooping up to notes in Hillary's busted fake vocal exercise. The only thing he'd have to say would be "okay again, but singing properly." You need to blend in a choir ffs.
@nekograce79143 жыл бұрын
Total facts. When I was in middle school my chorus teacher tells us we’re singing Wind Beneath My Wings for a festival. Since it was a popular song at the time most everyone knew it already but ofc we were given sheet music. When we did the first run through we all sang it like Midler. Lol she stops us and says “ok so we will have to go over it first”. A lot of the girls complained because they thought it was “boring” but it turned out beautiful. No riffs just 3 part harmony.
@ksy47473 жыл бұрын
@@nekograce7914 just curious, but how old are you? Bc we did "wind beneath my wings " at our 8th grade graduation. It was also my first year in America and I still didn't really speak much English. But I thought it was the most beautiful song ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was in the ESL class, so obviously we all struggled with the words alone. But I still remember the lyrics and the feeling of that song and my first year in the US.

@@ksy4747 I’m turning 42 in June. It was for my 6th grade October festival (I think) and we sang it at competition. That would have been...1991? Pretty sure. My chorus teachers name was Mrs Crossly and she was intense but and GREAT teacher. She had a beautiful voice. The next year we did ‘From a Distance’. My mom was positive she was a Midler fan. That’s really cool that you sang it for your ESL class(? Am I understanding that correctly?). That’s a great way to teach people pronunciation of a language, though singing. I’m currently learning (or well trying to learn 😂 every day is a struggle) Korean. And trying to sing Kpop songs helps with my pronunciation. I dunno.... I think you really overestimate how much "autotune" they used. Or underestimate how common pitch correction is in music recording in general. I guarantee every recording artist alive rn has used "autotune" I saw her live. She was my first concert. And although it was slightly hard to hear from the MILLIONS OF GIRLS SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER, I think I would've noticed if her singing was that far off
@bunnyrabi2 жыл бұрын
@@FIRING_BLIND yea I agree with you to an extent. I also don't think in the video she is arguing about auto tune. So I don't know why the original comment poster brings that up. The issue though is in these movies, instead of using her voice all the time, they need a better singer to come in and ghost sing for her in few parts. Which brings the question, if her own voice didn't fit all the songs in these movies, why use her in the first place? Honestly it's the whole issue of stupid directors not making sure their movies fit the actors and actresses. She's definitely a good singer, but the run section, nah, I don't think she is that great of a singer to easily pull that off by herself. A lot of her songs are more simple and straightforward.

Of all the totally 2000's nostalgia, the most 2000's thing about this is the grad banner printed in Comic Sans.

I am not exaggerating when I say I watch this video multiple times a week lol. And your commentary never fails to make me laugh 😂

If you close your eyes during Teri's "challenging vocal warm-up", it totally sounds like 2 singers battling each other! 😄

You should review “What a Girl Wants,” a crossover of Mama Mia and Princess Diaries 😂 I watched it for the first time today and the whole time I kept thinking how funny it would be if you reviewed it. It’s full of tripping and bad overdubbing 😂 The male love interest is played by the same guy that did Jay in this one.

It might be super cheesy, but it’s such a comfort movie for me. My day would be made if she talked about it. 😂

Nick DiRamio just did a video on that movie this week, and it's fantastic. If you're interested, he is one of my favorite creators, and definitely worth checking out!!! *Yes, I just recommended his channel in a thread requesting "Cadet Kelly", and I know some people frown on that, but he's somebody who deserves more eyes on him, so I'll do it again if it makes sense. Hope it's not seen as an affront to Jamie, because I love her too. ☺
